Hua Zhi saw the old Madam Shen stumble as she stepped down and quickly stepped forward to support her. Watching the members of the Shen family being escorted out of the residence one by one, Hua Zhi recalled Gu Chengtao's words—that anything interfering with Gu Yanxi's loyalty was, in his eyes, no more than weeds. Hua Zhi quietly watched as Gu Yanxi mounted his horse and left. The two locked eyes, but neither said a word.

Shen Huan was taken away, and Shao Yao cried and screamed in protest, but it was all in vain. The emperor's secret agents were pursuing the invitation sent by the Shen family to Prince Xian, which had originally been written by Shen Qi under duress. Shen Father believed that since Shen Qi had now earned an official title, as long as nothing happened to him, the Shen family would still have a glimmer of hope.

So he asked Shen Huan to take the blame. Shen Huan was subjected to brutal torture. Once Shen Qi understood the reason, he confessed to Gu Yanxi that he was the one who had written the invitation. The secret agent then ordered Shen Qi to be shackled and interrogated as well. Hua Zhi went to the Office of the Seventh Guard and questioned Gu Yanxi on how he felt about raiding the Shen family today.

Gu Yanxi did not give a direct answer. Although Hua Zhi understood the reasoning behind it all, she couldn't accept it. She didn’t want to become an excuse for Gu Chengtao to pressure and exploit Gu Yanxi. Tearfully, she took off her bracelet and returned it to Gu Yanxi. Watching Hua Zhi’s retreating figure, Gu Yanxi broke down in tears. Gu Yanxi told Gu Chengtao that it was over between him and Hua Zhi.

Hearing this, Gu Chengtao was pleased and ordered Gu Yanxi to release Shen Qi and everyone else except Shen Father and Shen Huan. Shen Huan wanted to let Shao Yao know he was safe, so Shen Qi helped him to the Hua residence. Hua Zhi immediately understood when she saw them and brought food, medicine, and a box of jewelry to the Shen family to help in their time of need.

The jewelry was meant to repay the betrothal gifts the Shen family had once given to the Hua family. Hua Zhi invited Shen Qi to teach at the Hua residence. Shen Qi was very grateful for Hua Zhi’s timely assistance. Hua Rong was getting married. Her mother, Concubine Qiu, gave her the money she had saved up and told her to serve her husband’s family well. But Hua Rong thought differently—she said a husband was someone to love.

If Jiang Zhengzhi ever changed his heart, she would follow her second aunt’s example and seek separation. At that time, Hua Zhi would surely take her back. Hua Zhi sent Hua Rong off from the capital. Seeing how loving the couple was, she felt at ease. That night, Hua Zhi was still busy calculating the accounts. Bao Xia, distressed for her, coaxed her to bed. But thinking of her past with Gu Yanxi, Hua Zhi couldn’t fall asleep.

She opened the window and looked at the moon in the sky. Elsewhere, Gu Yanxi, holding the bracelet, was also gazing at the moon. Gu Yanxi told Shao Yao that if she missed him, she could return to Prince Ling’s residence. Hua Zhi ordered the wine to be locked in the storeroom, along with the carved bed she had bought with Gu Yanxi. Shen Huan matured greatly after everything that happened.

Following Shao Yao’s suggestion, he began helping at Zhiming Tower and did it quite decently. Even when mocked by his old disreputable friends, he still greeted them with a smile. Shao Yao couldn’t stand it and taught those men a lesson on his behalf. Shen Qi continued preparing his lessons late into the night in order to better teach his students. Shen Huan came to visit him, and they talked about their childhood.

Though they were biological brothers, their lives had been completely different. Shen Huan said from now on, they would share the burden together—he would help Shen Qi carry some of the load so things wouldn’t be so hard for him. Seeing Shen Huan so thoughtful, Shen Qi felt deeply comforted. Zheng Zhi quietly left the Hua residence to assume his post in Guixi County. Hua Ling was reluctant to part with him but said nothing.

Zheng Zhi knelt to express his gratitude to Hua Ling and Hua Zhi for saving his life. Watching his departing figure, Hua Ling softly said, “Until we meet again. ” During the martial competition, Gu Yanxi was distracted and was knocked down by Zheng Hu. Even Hua Zhi felt no joy in counting money anymore. With the soaring price of ingredients, Zhiming Tower had no choice but to remove several dishes from the menu.
