Zhu Yangqi sent a message to Chen Luzhou, telling him to worry about himself first—his own backyard was on fire. Zhu Yangqi and a few others were having a meal when Gu Yan also came over to eat. They all knew Gu Yan and joked that Zhu Yangqi seemed close to her, asking if the rumors about Gu Yan and Chen Luzhou were true. Zhu Yangqi said it was all gossip and told them not to believe it.
The boys found it hard to believe. If it was just gossip, then Gu Yan must’ve been throwing herself at him—they couldn’t understand why such a beautiful woman would do that. The boys made a lot of derogatory remarks about women. Xu Zhi asked Cai Yingying if she knew how to choose a man, saying she should find someone with a perky butt who runs fast, so when he's old, he can fight for eggs at the supermarket.
Gu Yan joined in and said she wanted someone with a big chest—so it would be comfortable to hug. The boys understood the meaning and apologized to Xu Zhi. Xu Zhi said they didn’t need to apologize to her, but to Gu Yan. The boys apologized to Gu Yan. Gu Yan and Xu Zhi went out. Gu Yan explained that she knew Chen Luzhou because of an extracurricular group in high school.
At that time, she was busy acting and had no time to do the assignments. The others didn’t want to be held back and refused to team up with her—only Chen Luzhou agreed. Gu Yan said back then, she thought Chen Luzhou liked her, but later realized he just wanted to work alone—teaming up with her still meant working alone. Xu Zhi said that sounded exactly like something Chen Luzhou would do.
Gu Yan said it was unexpected that someone like Chen Luzhou would silently like Xu Zhi, and not even realize Xu Zhi’s feelings. Xu Zhi called Chen Luzhou, asked what he was doing, and invited him out for a late-night snack. Chen Luzhou came over, and Xu Zhi took him to eat pan-fried buns. She asked if he was free on the 8th to come to her birthday party.
Chen Luzhou said he wasn’t, that he really had plans—it wasn’t that he was avoiding it. Earlier, Chen Luzhou’s mother had told him his university admission had come, and his grandmother wanted to celebrate on the 8th. Chen Luzhou asked if they could change the date, but his mother said if he had something going on, should they just change everything for him?
Chen Luzhou said that next time, they should let him know, call him back to discuss it like he's part of the family. Xu Zhi and her friends went to sing karaoke. A guy from the next room came over saying he lost a game of truth or dare and had to sing a duet with a girl. Zhu Yangqi pinched his voice and sang with the guy, even did a finger-heart gesture. The guy quickly left.
At Chen Luzhou’s family gathering, his grandma gave him peanuts. Chen Xingqi said Chen Luzhou couldn’t eat peanuts, but his grandma said he was too picky and asked if he would eat or not. Chen Luzhou said he’d just eat chicken. Xu Zhi and the others left. Cai Yingying had drunk quite a bit. Zhu Yangqi called a car. Xu Zhi told them to go ahead—her father would come pick her up.
Chen Luzhou said he had something to do and left early. His father was angry, asking what could be so important to ruin everyone’s mood. Chen Luzhou downed a large glass of baijiu and said he was leaving. Xu Zhi’s father called, asking if she needed a ride. Xu Zhi said they were going out for late-night snacks and her phone was out of battery—they’d talk later. Chen Luzhou called Xu Zhi, but she didn’t answer.
He looked for her everywhere and finally found her. He even brought her a cake. Xu Zhi and Chen Luzhou went back together, but Xu Zhi saw her father waiting at the door and quickly pulled Chen Luzhou into hiding. She kissed him and then went out to lead her father away. Chen Luzhou was overjoyed. Xu Zhi later went to Chen Luzhou’s place to use his computer, saying it brought her luck.
Chen Luzhou helped her check something and said she could start buying tickets. Xu Zhi was going to start tutoring and said they wouldn’t see each other much anymore. Chen Luzhou and Chen Xingqi went to study, and Chen Xingqi recognized the student Xu Zhi was tutoring—Xixi.
