To Be A Brave One Episode 17 Recap
> To Be A Brave One Recap
Xu Jingya went on a date with a self-important man who boasted about his company's Series C funding and how he'd turned down acquisition offers. When the bill arrived, he pointed out that Construction Bank cards had a 50% discount that day, making Xu Jingya suspect he had only invited her out due to the promotion. He denied it. Meanwhile, Jiang Haoran was shopping with a woman who chose an expensive coat.
She pretended her phone was dead to avoid paying, and Jiang Haoran paid for it anyway. He then excused himself, saying he had to return to the office for overtime, rejecting further engagement with her. As Xu Jingya left the mall, she encountered Jiang Haoran. They both instinctively sent each other the same text message, "Where are you headed?" , and exchanged a knowing smile.
Fang Li was furious when she saw An Yu's name on the list for the Hongxing Telecom Project Team, which she was managing, crumpling the document in anger. She then arranged to meet An Yu, detailing An Yu's rapid career progression at Zhuoyue: from successfully acquiring Wei'er Hotel during probation, to surviving the challenging Chuanhe Branch, joining the Investment Department, and finally being selected for the prestigious Hongxing Telecom project.
Fang Li expressed how ironic and painful it was to witness An Yu's success and happiness, given that her own son, Chen Fang, could only lie in a vegetative state, unable to speak or move, surviving on enteral nutrition. She accused An Yu of "stealing his life," which had stopped at age eighteen. An Yu was stunned, realizing that Fang Li was Chen Fang's mother, and burst into tears.
Later, Fang Li explicitly told hospital staff to turn An Yu away, stating she did not want to see her. Shao Moli found An Yu at a boxing gym, suggesting she could use him to vent her frustrations next time, as punching a sandbag lacked impact. An Yu then asked him to accompany her, and they went to the hospital to visit Chen Fang, where she revealed to Shao Moli that Chen Fang was Fang Li's son.
Later, at a bar, An Yu consumed several drinks, with Shao Moli matching her pace. She confessed her painful past: Chen Fang had lost everything saving her, a complete stranger. She recalled her father's arrest for financial crime and his last words to her, urging her to care for herself and Yiyi. Unable to reach her ex-husband Zhou Yuan, she later discovered him with another woman, feeling she had lost her sole support.
In distress, she drove home, encountered a drowsy driver on the wrong side of the road, and crashed her car into a river while trying to avoid a collision. In the water, she initially felt a sense of relief but then vaguely remembered a boy pulling her to safety. Upon regaining consciousness, she overheard nurses discussing the boy who saved her, saying he had suffered asphyxia from choking, remained unconscious, and might enter a vegetative state.
Before she could see him, she herself was imprisoned for financial crime. After her release, she immediately rushed to the hospital to visit him, but Fang Li refused to see her and rejected a bank card An Yu offered, having the head nurse return it. An Yu lamented that despite countless imaginings of meeting Chen Fang's mother and rehearsing what to say or do, she was utterly speechless when faced with her.
She expressed profound guilt, understanding Fang Li's inability to forgive, particularly as a mother herself, contemplating how she would react if Yiyi were in Chen Fang's place. The irony was not lost on her that they would now work in the same company, department, and soon, the same team. Shao Moli gently stroked her hair, reassuring her, "I will always be here," before taking her home.
An Yu, though grateful for his support, told him she wanted to face Fang Li on her own terms. The next day, An Yu and Fang Li reported to work as usual.
Shao Moli officially announced the establishment of the Hongxing Telecom Project Team and introduced its members: Ye Kai, his assistant; Su Dayong, an experienced staff member transferred from the Chuanhe Branch; Jin Lailai, known for her thriftiness; An Yu, whom everyone was already familiar with; and Fang Li, the project manager responsible for all administrative matters.
Fang Li immediately challenged Shao Moli, stating her concern about leading a team not comprised of her own people and warning that she was very strict and would show no leniency to underperforming subordinates, even if they were Shao Moli’s. Shao Moli affirmed his understanding, as long as her demands were reasonable.
Fang Li then proceeded to assign tasks to Ye Kai, Jin Lailai, and Su Dayong, each responsible for researching different chronological periods of Hongxing Telecom, with a three-day deadline. However, she pointedly omitted An Yu from any assignments. After the others left, a visibly upset An Yu began to cry. Jin Lailai approached her, asking why Fang Li hadn't assigned her any work. An Yu, through tears, confided that Fang Li was Chen Fang's mother.
Shocked, Jin Lailai suggested An Yu request a transfer to avoid suffering, but An Yu firmly responded that running away was not the solution and that she could only resolve the situation by confronting it directly. Jin Lailai then offered to share her workload with An Yu, which An Yu accepted. After the emotionally charged meeting, An Yu, needing to work overtime, went downstairs to grab some food.
There, she ran into Shao Moli, who offered her liquor-filled chocolates to "recharge her battery" and "replenish her energy." They shared a moment of amusement, feeling a unique joy known only to them. Their conversation was interrupted by the enthusiastic arrival of Lin Fei'er, Mr. Lin's daughter, who rushed to embrace Shao Moli, having just returned. Shao Moli introduced Lin Fei'er to An Yu, only to discover they were old acquaintances.
Lin Fei'er fondly recalled how she used to follow "Miss Yu" around as a child because An Yu was pretty and often took her clothes shopping. Although Shao Moli and An Yu had planned to work late, they agreed to join Lin Fei'er for dinner later, after she visited her father.
During their dinner, Lin Fei'er revealed her ambitious plan for a major art project, inspired by August Sander's "People of the 20th Century," where she intended to delve deeply into her subjects' lives to capture their most captivating moments. When Shao Moli suggested An Yu as a subject, Lin Fei'er spontaneously proposed painting both of them, a suggestion Shao Moli readily accepted. Later, Shao Moli showed An Yu the beautiful night view of Yuqing using a drone.
To their surprise, they inadvertently stumbled upon Jin Lailai and Ye Kai sharing an intimate moment, kissing passionately. An Yu and Shao Moli, realizing their colleagues were secretly dating, were amused and speculated about their clandestine relationship. Shao Moli recalled Ye Kai constantly smiling at his phone, while An Yu observed Jin Lailai's recurring "cat-feeding" excursions that always ended with a "big tomcat."
Unaware they were being watched, Jin Lailai felt a strange sensation, wondering if someone was looking at them, but Ye Kai dismissed her concern, pointing out the late hour. After a reluctant farewell, the couple parted ways, each returning home to face curious roommates eager for details about their long absences.
Jin Lailai fabricated a story about a "clingy stray cat" with innocent eyes like "Ice Cream's," which her roommate expressed a desire to meet, but Jin Lailai quickly claimed the cat had likely disappeared.
