Sui Yi's mother pressed her daughter about her feelings, and Sui Yi confidently told her mother that she truly loved He Chufeng. Meanwhile, Luo Bin asked He Chufeng what Sui Yi's mother had inquired about. He Chufeng mentioned questions about his zodiac sign, blood type, and family situation, feeling apprehensive about her potentially minding his background. Luo Bin explained that parents naturally worry about their children's partners, having cared for them for over two decades.

He advised He Chufeng to approach this like the most challenging task in his work, maintaining confidence and finding the "password" to convince her. Sui Yi's mother then asked He Chufeng for a tour of his studio, deliberately leaving Sui Yi outside the door to speak with him privately. Sui Yi and Luo Bin tried to eavesdrop, but the door was too soundproof.

He Chufeng eventually caught them, leading to an awkward moment, and jokingly told Luo Bin he could teach him how to handle meeting parents next time. Sui Yi's mother decided not to stay for lunch, despite He Chufeng's offer to cook the sausages her father sent. She complimented the lively and earnest atmosphere, describing it as befitting "four-haves young people" (having ideals, morals, culture, and discipline), which Luo Bin noted must be a reference to Sui Yi’s politics teacher father.

Before leaving, she specifically told Sui Yi and Fang Qi (An) to take good care of themselves while living together, a subtle hint about Sui Yi's relationship with He Chufeng. She also reminded He Chufeng of their private "promise." After her mother left, Sui Yi pressed He Chufeng about the promise, but both Luo Bin and Fang Qi sided with He Chufeng, emphasizing the importance of integrity, much to Sui Yi's frustration.

Later, in the kitchen, Sui Yi initially remembered she was supposed to be angry with He Chufeng, but his kiss quickly diffused her annoyance. He Chufeng playfully reassured her, saying she had a "smart little head." Reflecting on their private conversation, Sui Yi's mother had told He Chufeng she appreciated his honesty and trusted him as someone Sui Yi could rely on, especially given how well he managed his life despite his past.

She acknowledged Sui Yi's willfulness and many bad habits, which she and her father had indulged, and asked He Chufeng to be tolerant and help her correct them. He Chufeng promised to care for Sui Yi and always apologize first if they quarreled. Late that night, He Chufeng called Gu Nan to apologize for his previous actions, admitting he should have trusted him. Gu Nan, though initially upset, accepted the apology.

He Chufeng then showed Gu Nan a letter—an invitation to a secret, world-class locksmith competition. Gu Nan recognized it, having received a similar one years ago but not attending. He explained the rigorous entry process, marveling at He Chufeng's ability to decode the invitation. He Chufeng, however, was uninterested, citing Gu Nan's own philosophy that opening locks isn't about winning or losing. Gu Nan argued that such a competition could significantly enhance professional skills and urged him to reconsider.

After He Chufeng left, Gu Nan called his "Sir," lamenting that He Chufeng had burned the portion of the invitation containing the competition date. Gu Nan, determined to participate, declared he would ensure He Chufeng willingly handed over the letter to him. Meanwhile, Fang Qi confided in Luo Bin about her father, feeling he didn't care for her because he hadn't searched for her when she was missing and wasn't present when she returned home.

Luo Bin suggested that parents express their care in different ways. Fang Qi then asked Luo Bin about his relationship with his father, to which he replied, "Which father do you mean?" hinting at his own complex family situation. Fang Qi's fiancé, Cheng Wen, repeatedly called her, trying to convince her to return, but she firmly stated she needed to stay for a few days and was no longer his fiancée.

A flashback showed her father threatening to disown her if she didn't marry Cheng Wen. Cheng Wen, anxious about Fang Qi potentially regaining her memories, instructed his subordinate to bring her back before her father returned, emphasizing that she must not remember anything. Back at his shop, Luo Bin was studying a book, finding its initial chapters to be well-structured and imaginative, but the ending felt strangely disjointed. His online research revealed a significant controversy surrounding the author.

He discovered a video of Zheng Xiuyuan disrupting a book signing, publicly accusing the author, Jiang Lu, of plagiarizing the work of Bai Tianhuan. Luo Bin immediately went to Zheng Xiuyuan's bookstore, arriving as Jiang Lu was attempting to persuade Zheng Xiuyuan to delete the online posts and sell him the rest of the manuscript, offering lucrative publishing and film adaptation deals.

Zheng Xiuyuan furiously refused, calling Jiang Lu a shameless plagiarist and warning him that he had evidence and surveillance footage of their encounter. Jiang Lu, dismissing Zheng Xiuyuan as jealous, stormed out. Zheng Xiuyuan then explained to Luo Bin that he, Jiang Lu, and Bai Tianhuan were close friends and aspiring writers ten years ago. Bai Tianhuan was the most talented, for whom writing was his entire life. The three had struggled to get their works published.

Two years later, Bai Tianhuan was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Even on his sickbed, he continued to write his final masterpiece, a story he had conceived at sixteen but never had the time to finish. He preferred writing by hand, believing it fostered his inspiration. After Bai Tianhuan's death, Zheng Xiuyuan found the complete manuscript among his belongings and kept it safe.

Last year, he was shocked to discover Jiang Lu had published the book under his own name, even using Bai Tianhuan's original ideas for the book's jacket. Zheng Xiuyuan tried to confront Jiang Lu, but he was ignored and publicly dismissed at a book signing. He was outraged that a plagiarist could enjoy recognition while the true author was silenced.

Zheng Xiuyuan deduced that Jiang Lu must have acquired the initial parts of the manuscript when they shared a residence and had "dog-tailed" the ending, completely ruining Bai Tianhuan's original vision, which explained the book's jarring narrative inconsistencies that Luo Bin had noted. He confirmed that his bookstore had surveillance footage of Jiang Lu's recent visit, serving as crucial evidence.
