Emperor Tiansheng appointed Ning Yi as the chief judge of the Chang Hai case and presented him with the Imperial Sword to back him up. Gu Yan escorted Chang Hai into the hall. Ning Yi forced him to reveal the mastermind behind it, but Chang Hai claimed there was no mastermind. Ning Yi then took out a piece of paper and made him read it out, which stated that everything was instigated by Duke Min.
Chang Hai, unable to bear it, stood up with the intention to harm. Ning Yi, however, drew the Imperial Sword and slit his throat. Emperor Tiansheng appeared at this moment, reprimanding Ning Yi for arbitrarily executing someone. Ning Yi, however, claimed, "By killing Chang Hai, won't he finally believe that I am merely frivolous?" Shao Ning asked Qiu Shangqi if Feng Zhiwei's parents were still alive and if she had a family.
Qiu Shangqi could only say that he was a distant relative of hers and would need to inquire to find out. Qiu Shangqi immediately went to Feng Zhiwei's residence, reprimanding her for dressing as a man and serving as an official in court.
