Roughly seven years ago, Zhao Qian's father gave Liu Renkai a dog, reminding Liu Renkai of his role regarding the Zhao family. Liu Renkai had no son, so someone provoked Liu Renkai's wife because of this. His wife repeatedly vented her anger on their daughter, Liu Xiaoxuan. All of Xie Wuqiang's relatives jointly signed, requesting that his kidney be transplanted to his son, Xie Xiaohua. Zheng Gang consulted Zhang Yiming in the hospital.

Zhang Yiming took full responsibility and agreed to proceed with the transplant. Xie Wuqiang's wife emotionally knelt beside Zheng Gang to express her gratitude. Zhong Ning and Zheng Gang retrieved the hospital surveillance footage. Based on Xie Wuqiang's series of symptoms, they speculated that he, like Yang Youmo, had been injected with a lethal dose of adrenaline. Later, they found a bloodstained stone near Xie Wuqiang's home, which was confirmed to be Xie Wuqiang's blood through testing.

They then identified Liu Renkai, who had come to collect a debt that day, through surveillance. When they went to Liu Renkai's home to summon him, Liu Renkai's wife, Sun Ping, was very nervous. Their daughter, Liu Xiaoxuan, came out of the room when she heard the commotion. Zhong Ning noticed bruises on Liu Xiaoxuan's arm. Liu Renkai went to the police station and described his relationship with Xie Wuqiang.

Several other police officers investigated and found that on the night of the incident, Liu Renkai was drinking with his lover, Xu Lina, and had an alibi. After Liu Renkai left, Zhong Ning and Zheng Gang could only go back to Xie Wuqiang's wife, Wu Ping, hoping to find a breakthrough. Wu Ping briefly recounted some events from Xie Wuqiang's life, but did not provide many valuable clues.

Back at the police station, they learned that Xie Wuqiang had signed a paid cornea transfer contract. It turned out that Xie Wuqiang regarded his son as a source of income and most wished for his son's death. Zhong Ning remembered smelling a burnt odor at Xie Wuqiang's house. They went back to find Wu Ping. Wu Ping's words revealed a loophole, which Zheng Gang seized upon for further questioning.

She finally admitted to the fact that she had killed Xie Wuqiang. As Zheng Gang was preparing to record the details, he received another call from a colleague, informing him that at the same time on the night of the incident, Wu Ping had gone shopping at a supermarket, which was proven by surveillance footage. Zhong Ning guessed that Wu Ping was intentionally hiding some truth.

He then advised her that she absolutely must not make a mistake for the sake of her son. When Wu Ping heard this sentence, her defenses instantly crumbled, because the person who killed Xie Wuqiang had said the same thing. According to Wu Ping's plan, killing Xie Wuqiang would at least prevent her son's life from being threatened again.

However, just as she was about to smash Xie Wuqiang with a hammer, a man in black stopped her, telling her not to continue and that she should think about her son. Afterward, he gave her instructions step by step, precisely calculating the time to create an alibi. When finally asked who the man in black was, Wu Ping said it was Liao Boyan, who had once saved her son.

Just before being taken away, Wu Ping personally cooked a meal for her son one last time. Zhong Ning promised Wu Ping that he would find the best lawyer in Xinggang City to help with her defense and strive for a reduced sentence. The technical department made a new discovery from the surveillance footage of Yang Youmo's studio.

Although the video was deliberately blurred, it was possible to see that Liao Boyan had a physical confrontation with Yang Youmo in the studio. They immediately went to Liao Boyan's home and asked about the reason for the conflict. Liao Boyan explained that Yang Youmo had promised to help him sell paintings, but the paintings didn't sell and were even burned with a hole, which made him very dissatisfied.

Zhong Ning saw some bottles of Alzheimer's medication in Liao Boyan's bedroom and concluded that Liao Boyan was not faking his illness. Back at home, Zhong Ning thought alone about the connections between the people involved. The killer of Yang Youmo and Xie Wuqiang had a meticulous mind and was certainly not someone suffering from Alzheimer's disease. However, the psychological torture inflicted on the victims suggested revenge.

Zhao Qian ran a red light and caused a car accident five years ago. Liao Boyan's daughter's car accident also happened five years ago. If it was precisely caused by Zhao Qian, then Liao Boyan would be highly suspicious. Carrying various doubts, Zhong Ning followed Liao Boyan and tentatively asked if he had found the culprit who hit and killed Liao Yifan. Liao Boyan's emotions suddenly became agitated.

Zhong Ning reminded him that even if he found something, he should not overstep his bounds in handling it. Liao Boyan became even sadder and told him that nothing was more over the line than losing his daughter. Returning home in the evening, Zhong Ning thought about it until late again, so much so that he was late for his daughter's parent-teacher conference the next day. Zhong Renxi had written an essay praising Liao Boyan. Just as she was reciting it, Zhong Ning received a call informing him that Xiao Dade had died unexpectedly.
