Hu Kexin, filled with hatred, expelled her demon core, which flew into the sky and shattered into a thousand fragments, transforming into resentful snow that slowly descended upon Lin'an. This snow, born from resentment and countless killings, caused plants to wither and humans to fall into madness upon contact. Fahai, shocked, immediately sat down to cast a spell, freezing the entire city of Lin'an. Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing joined forces, working to prevent the cursed snow from falling further.

Touched by their efforts, Fahai became momentarily distracted and was inadvertently covered by the snow. This reawakened his inner demon, leading to an intense internal struggle that caused him immense pain. As Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing's powers waned, Jing Song appeared, stepping in to help contain the resentful energy. However, Bai Suzhen harbored deep resentment towards Jing Song for his previous collaboration with Kexin to steal her demon core, and refused to acknowledge or forgive him.

Far away at Jinshan Temple, Fahai's master sensed the impending disaster in Lin'an and willingly sacrificed his own lifespan to protect the city's inhabitants. With his sacrifice, the skies above Lin'an cleared, and the snow melted away. Hu Kexin's sins and lingering resentment dissolved within the vanished ice and snow. However, that powerful resentment merged with Fahai's inner demon, taking root deep within the dark corners of his heart. Following the calamity, Li Gongfu felt even more indebted to Fahai.

As he bid Fahai farewell, Li Gongfu returned the Demon-Subduing Sword Fahai had previously given him, yet a doubt lingered in his mind: the sword glowed brightly in the presence of demons, but why had it also glowed when it encountered Xiao Qing and Bai Suzhen? Fahai explained that the sword was a sacred artifact of Jinshan Temple, incapable of malfunctioning, and always sensitive to demonic energy.

Meanwhile, the formerly spoiled and carefree Ruyi had undergone a profound change after losing her father and her confidante, Yin Xiang. She began to personally cook and eagerly helped Xu Xian's sister with household chores, tasks she previously wouldn't have touched. The once rebellious girl now diligently studied poetry and ancient medical texts. Her new docile demeanor was heartbreaking to witness, but Xu Xian's heart remained steadfastly with Bai Suzhen.

Despite Ruyi's transformation and heartfelt efforts, which included preparing a special stew for Xu Xian, his heart remained steadfastly with Bai Suzhen. During a conversation, Xu Xian gently but firmly told Ruyi that their relationship was akin to that of a brother and sister, and he intended to marry Bai Suzhen if he recovered. Ruyi, heartbroken, confessed her long-standing love for him, recalling her childhood desire to marry him.

She pleaded with him not to abandon her, lamenting the loss of her father and Yin Xiang, and even threatened to end her own life if he didn't stay with her. Xu Xian, in turn, tried to comfort her, but remained firm in his affections for Bai Suzhen. Xu Xian, increasingly concerned for his own health, had been frail since his imprisonment. He initially dismissed his persistent cough as a lingering injury from the torture he endured in jail.

However, after days of medication showed no improvement, and he began to cough up blood on several occasions, Xu Xian realized the severity of his condition. Consulting ancient texts and diagnosing himself, he discovered he was afflicted with a rare and potent poison that was slowly consuming his vital energy, leaving him without a remedy. Xu Xian's condition deteriorated from walking to sitting, and eventually, he was confined to his bed.

Watching Xu Xian waste away, Bai Suzhen was overwhelmed with sorrow. She knew he was deeply affected by a demonic poison, but strangely, she was powerless to cure it herself. After much deliberation, Bai Suzhen decided to return to Mount Emei. She intended to use her thousand years of cultivation to force the growth of a rare reishi mushroom, hoping to extend Xu Xian's life and buy herself more time to find a cure.

Jing Song immediately sensed Bai Suzhen's return to Emei. When he discovered she was undertaking such a reckless act for Xu Xian, he was furious. He quickly ensnared Bai Suzhen in a magical barrier, gathered the newly cultivated reishi, and left. Bai Suzhen, already weakened from her efforts, found her attacks against Jing Song's barrier futile. Jing Song arrived at Xu Xian's home to "visit" him, finding him critically ill and unable to stand.

He placed the umbrella, a memento of love between Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen, on the table and spoke harsh words of farewell, aiming to make Xu Xian give up hope. Jing Song cruelly informed Xu Xian that he and Bai Suzhen were returning to Shu land, implying that Xu Xian had only been a burden delaying their departure. He left the reishi, calling it "compensation" from him and Bai Suzhen.

Xu Xian gazed at the umbrella, carved with symbols of their affection, but Jing Song's cruel words had shattered his hope, leaving him unable to conjure any romantic feelings, accepting that their separation was inevitable. Jing Song, seeing Xu Xian's heartbroken expression, stifled a laugh, and departed. Xu Xian, already aware his time was limited, now believed his beloved had left him for another.

Overwhelmed by sorrow, despair, and a broken heart, Xu Xian reminisced about the beautiful day they embraced on the Broken Bridge by West Lake, and then passed away. Bai Suzhen, having finally broken through Jing Song's barrier, rushed back to Xu Xian without a moment to spare, but she was too late. They had missed their last chance to see each other. Bai Suzhen immediately sought out Guanyin Bodhisattva.

Through Guanyin's enlightenment, Bai Suzhen finally understood that Xu Xian's affliction was "love poison." As humans and demons tread different paths, the deeper their love, the more potent the poison becomes. Because of their profound affection and intimate proximity, the love poison had gradually seeped into Xu Xian's bones and heart, rendering him incurable by ordinary means. The only solution was for Bai Suzhen to sacrifice her thousand-year demon core.

If Xu Xian consumed it, Bai Suzhen's spiritual essence would be severely damaged, her magical power would greatly diminish, and her path to immortality would become impossibly distant. Furthermore, she would endure a "hundred-day tribulation" every hundred days, suffering unbearable pain, and without protection, her life would be in peril. Despite these dire consequences, Bai Suzhen remained resolute and without regret.

In this lifetime, having embraced their mortal karmic connection, she would not abandon it; as long as there was a sliver of hope, Bai Suzhen was willing to stake her life on it. Moved by her unwavering devotion, Guanyin provided Bai Suzhen with Yangzhi Ganlu (willow branch sweet dew) to aid her. Bai Suzhen gazed at Xu Xian, lamenting her delay.

She recounted her dream from their first meeting: to live as a mortal, tending a clinic, gathering herbs, diagnosing illnesses, tasting all plants, and writing medical texts together for a simple, peaceful life. She expressed her willingness to abandon her pursuit of eternal life to share even a fleeting moment of beauty with him.
