Xu Xian revealed to Bai Suzhen that he had no idea where his father's impeachment evidence against Prime Minister Liang was. He also expressed a desire to live a peaceful life, unwilling to let the grievances of the previous generation trouble him. However, Prime Minister Liang remained suspicious and unwilling to take any chances. Faced with Xu Xian's predicament, Bai Suzhen felt helpless.

Xu Xian then suggested that Lord Mu, an upright and powerful individual who could contend with Prime Minister Liang, might be able to help clear his name. Though Lord Mu was far away on military duty and had not returned in years, Xu Xian, having previously befriended him, wrote a detailed letter outlining Prime Minister Liang's suspicious actions and entrusted Bai Suzhen to deliver it, hoping Lord Mu would investigate the case.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Liang was furious to learn that his subordinates had failed to kill Xu Xian and that Bai Suzhen had even visited him in prison for a long conversation. Fearing she might have taken evidence, he immediately ordered his men to hunt her down and kill her. He also commanded the Magistrate to dismiss Li Gongfu from his position as Chief Constable, accusing him of abusing his power to release Xu Xian, and to never rehire him.

Li Gongfu's ceremonial sword was taken, and he was publicly disgraced despite his protests. Xiao Qing had been secretly following Hu Kexin for days. She witnessed Hu Kexin tying someone in a sack and ordering her men to bury the person alive in the mountains under the cover of night. Xiao Qing secretly observed until the right moment, then rescued the person from the sack.

The rescued individual was Lv Yi, the concubine of the deceased Liang Jun, and she had witnessed Hu Kexin's plot to murder Liang Jun. Lv Yi recounted her observations, explaining how Hu Kexin had purchased all the thorn apples in Lin'an to poison Liang Jun. Bai Suzhen carefully analyzed the information, piecing together the entire conspiracy. She decided it was time to turn the tables on Hu Kexin.

Bai Suzhen first sent Xiao Qing away and went alone to Nuwa Temple to seek out A Luo, Big Drum, and their companions. Having recognized them as East Sea gods from their use of Dragon King's palace treasures to strengthen the formation in the Bai Mansion, she sought their help. She also realized that Xiao Qing was not just a small snake demon from West Lake, but her true identity remained a secret the gods were bound to keep.

Bai Suzhen explained the urgency of Xu Xian's case and the presence of the Demon Binding Rope in the Liang Mansion, which she and Xiao Qing could not overcome. The four gods, who were accompanying Xiao Qing on her tribulation in the human world and were delighted to be recognized after centuries, readily agreed to help, as they were immune to the rope. As part of their plan, Bai Suzhen assumed the form of Lord Mu.

With Xiao Qing, she arranged for the Magistrate to visit Hu Kexin's residence. The four gods, who had easily broken free from Hu Kexin's Demon Binding Rope earlier (to Hu Kexin's shock and dismissal as mere "smelly foxes"), disguised themselves as servants in Hu Kexin's household. They then mixed "Fairy Drunk," a potent beverage from the Dragon King's palace that forces even gods to reveal their true forms, into the tea served to Hu Kexin.

Unsuspecting, Hu Kexin drank the tea and immediately transformed into her fox demon form. The horrified Magistrate cried out, and with the additional evidence and testimony provided by Lv Yi, Xu Xian was promptly released, cleared of all charges. As the disguised Lord Mu, Bai Suzhen couldn't help but show excessive concern for the weakened Xu Xian, nearly revealing her true identity had Xiao Qing not subtly reminded her of their charade.

Severely weakened, Hu Kexin fled, pursued relentlessly by Fahai's staff. She eventually sought refuge in Mr. Jin's (Jin Ruyi's father) home. Fahai, intent on capturing her, set up a vast net. Driven by desperation, Hu Kexin, now deeply entrenched in evil after countless murders, killed Jin Ruyi's maid, Yin Xiang, and attempted to kill Jin Ruyi herself. However, Mr. Jin appeared just in time, shielding his daughter from the fatal blow, sacrificing his own life.

Jin Ruyi was left alone and distraught, realizing the devastating power of the demonic forces. Fahai continued his pursuit, but Hu Kexin, skilled in deception and charm, proved difficult to pin down. Even for the accomplished monk, locating her exact position was a struggle. Seeing Fahai's difficulty, Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing decided to intervene. They worked together to disperse the crowds on the streets, making it harder for the fox demon to hide among ordinary people.

Hu Kexin attempted to disguise herself as a government officer and blend in with a group led by Li Gongfu (who, despite being dismissed, was still out with his former colleagues, having retrieved the Demon Weeping Sword given to him by Fahai). Li Gongfu's Demon Weeping Sword reacted to the demon's presence, flying out and exposing Hu Kexin. Fahai, using his Prajna Mirror, finally located her amidst a few officers.

As Fahai prepared to deliver a decisive blow with his Zijin Bowl, Hu Kexin made one last desperate attempt to use her charm, trying to influence Li Gongfu and then Fahai. Fahai, already battling his own inner demons, struggled but managed to regain his focus. Enraged, Hu Kexin met her end, but not before uttering a terrible curse, vowing that the people of Lin'an would die with her.
