Mo Yihuai met Qu Xiaotan in the suburbs, believing she was Qu Tan'er. He presented her with a watch, intending it to be their secret code. Qu Xiaotan, however, immediately suspected the watch might be a time machine and questioned him using scientific terminology. Puzzled, Mo Yihuai explained that he had once disassembled the mysterious object and found intricate gears inside, which he thought might be what she meant by a "time machine."

He concluded that her peculiar behavior stemmed from mental trauma after her suicide attempt, which only intensified his pity for her. He promised to help her leave the palace, even if it meant abandoning his status as a prince. Hearing this, Qu Xiaotan, excited by the prospect of returning home to her parents and enjoying modern food, declared her happiness was in Mo Yihuai's hands and embraced him.

Mo Yihuai felt a surge of joy, convinced that Qu Tan'er had never forgotten their feelings for each other. At that moment, Mo Liancheng appeared, coldly kissing Qu Xiaotan over Mo Yihuai's shoulder. He then warned Mo Yihuai to respect himself, asserting that Qu Xiaotan was his woman, before taking her and departing. Back in his palace, Mo Yihuai was consumed by fury.

Qu Pan'er entered and tried to provoke him, remarking that while he suffered, Qu Tan'er was thriving in the Eighth Prince's palace and toying with the men there. Her words only fueled Mo Yihuai's rage. He retorted that Qu Pan'er, as Qu Tan'er's older sister, should not believe rumors and slander her, especially when she was in a difficult situation under Mo Liancheng's watch.

Mo Yihuai then cut her off, vehemently stating that his heart only belonged to Qu Tan'er and told her to leave. Meanwhile, Noble Consort DuGu anxiously awaited news. Wei Zongheng reported that the Eighth Prince had not retaliated against the Grand Prince, suspecting he had seen through their scheme and was biding his time. Noble Consort DuGu agreed they must strike first and ruin the Eighth Prince's reputation.

Wei Zongheng then presented a vial containing the highly dangerous eggs of the Ghost Face Blood Spirit, and they decided it was time to use Qu Pan'er as their pawn to administer the poison. Upon returning to the Eighth Prince's palace, Qu Xiaotan furiously scrubbed her mouth, determined to remove the "stink" of the Eighth Prince's kiss.

Jingxin tried to calm her, but Qu Xiaotan continued to vent, calling the Eighth Prince a "late-stage schizophrenic" and noting his shocking resemblance to a man also named Mo Liancheng from her time, whom she blamed for her transmigration. Her rant was interrupted when Yu Hao announced that the Eighth Prince would be going on an outing and had ordered her to ride in his carriage. Despite her refusal, Jingxin quickly agreed on her behalf.

In the suburbs, Qu Xiaotan deliberately kept her distance from the Eighth Prince. He, in turn, ordered her to stay within three feet of him. In defiance, she walked backward and accidentally tumbled into a large pit containing several skeletons. The Eighth Prince also fell in while trying to save her. Feigning a chest injury, he allowed Qu Xiaotan to massage him, and she noted his chest was surprisingly firm, comparable to the modern Mo Liancheng's.

To escape, she suggested climbing out on his back, but the Eighth Prince dismissed her idea and instead lifted her towards the edge. Just as she was about to grasp it, he intentionally let go, pulling her back into his arms. The move made Qu Xiaotan's heart flutter. Undeterred, she prepared to try again, rubbing soil on her hands for better grip.

Seeing her persistence, or perhaps out of impatience, the Eighth Prince used his martial arts skills, carrying her out of the pit. Qu Xiaotan then confronted Yu Hao, who had been nearby, and realized she had been manipulated; the pit was a setup to toy with her. Liu Qianshui visited Mo Liancheng (currently disguised as the strategist Liu Shang) and found him practicing his swordplay with unmasked anger.

Liu Qianshui questioned if his identity had been exposed and delivered newly refined medicine, advising him to leave the court's conflicts for his own safety and search for the Soul Bead with him. Mo Liancheng declined the offer. After Liu Qianshui left, Mo Liancheng reflected that he was staying not for himself, but to protect Qu Tan'er, the host of the Soul Bead.

He observed the intense love in the Eighth Prince's eyes for her, recognizing it as the same love he himself once had. The Eighth Prince entrusted the "Thousand Li Territory" painting, his birthday gift for the Emperor, to Qu Xiaotan for safekeeping. The next day, he, accompanied by Qu Xiaotan and Liu Shang, went to the palace. After delivering the painting to the royal treasury, they attended the birthday banquet.

Noble Consort DuGu performed a captivating dance for the Emperor, drawing widespread applause. After the dance, various gifts were presented. Mo Yihuai offered a sword named Dragon Shadow, which pleased the Emperor. Next, the Eighth Prince presented the "Thousand Li Territory." Noble Consort DuGu interjected with a sarcastic remark, but the Eighth Prince skillfully responded with a vow of loyalty that moved his father.

However, as the Emperor stepped down to examine the scroll, he suddenly cried out in pain, his hand stung. General Wei and Noble Consort DuGu rushed forward, while Mo Yihuai accused the Eighth Prince of treason and ordered the arrest of both him and Qu Xiaotan. With the imperial doctors unable to identify the poison, Liu Shang stepped forward and requested to treat the Emperor.

He used a candle flame to cauterize the Emperor's hand, forcing out a parasitic worm, then bit the Emperor's fingertip to release the poisoned blood. The Emperor slowly recovered. Liu Shang explained that the poison was a Ghost Face Blood Spirit, a rare, highly venomous creature that proves fatal within a short time. Noble Consort DuGu tried to shift the blame to the Eighth Prince, claiming his strategist had confessed.

However, Liu Shang continued, revealing that the poison's other bane was red arsenolite, which was used to seal its container and turns black upon contact with alkaline water. He proposed that everyone who had touched the birthday gifts dip their hands in alkaline water, guaranteeing the true culprit would be revealed. The Emperor granted his request.
