Jin Wei, seizing a moment of distraction, suddenly drew his sword and struck at Xiao Lingchen, only to be stopped by Jin Xian. But he was unwilling to let go, insisting the Dragon Edict Scroll bore Lord Langya’s name. He could not believe the Lord’s son was such a disappointment, unworthy of their master’s trust.

Thus, Jin Wei did not hesitate to take his own life, revealing before his death that neither he nor Jin Yan had killed Jin Yu—implying another cause. With those last words, Jin Wei died, eyes closed. Throughout it all, Ye Xiaoying had suppressed his rage. He now drew his blade, and at his command, the entire army aimed their weapons at the Tai’an Palace—targeting both Ming Dedi and the Xiao princes.

Lei Wujie appeared just in time, one man and one sword blocking a thousand troops. Xiao Lingchen and Xiao Se stood beside him, loudly pleading with the Langya Army to retreat. Ming Dedi, witnessing this scene and hearing Ye Xiaoying’s grief-filled words, ultimately ordered Xiao Se to declare the imperial edict, admitting that the rebellion charges against Lord Langya were a complete misjudgment.

In light of justice served and old grievances righted, Ming Dedi posthumously honored Lord Langya with the title “Da” and allowed his return to the ancestral temple. Xiao Lingchen inherited the title of prince and was appointed General Xuanwu, authorized to summon the old Langya Army and command forces independent of imperial oversight. It was because Ming Dedi once trusted slanderous words and wrongly killed his beloved brother that he decided to visit the ancestral temple every three days.

When Xiao Se finished reciting the edict in full, Ming Dedi’s frail body could no longer hold out—he collapsed in a coma. Meanwhile, Ye Ruoyi and Xiao Yueli intercepted two loyalist armies outside the city—each move precisely as Xiao Se had planned. In the spring of Mingde Year 22, Ming Dedi issued a self-reproach edict, restoring Lord Langya’s honor and punishing himself. The rebellion, later known as the “Langya Coup,” ended with General Ye Xiaoying's withdrawal.

Xiao Lingchen claimed that his father had deliberately tarnished his own name to enter prison, and that the chaos in Tianqi was pre-planned by both father and son to preserve national peace and quell rebellion. With the Langya Coup concluded, Ye Xiaoying returned to the General’s Manor, aged significantly overnight. Ming Dedi did not punish him, out of fear of his military power.

However, the court could no longer tolerate him, so Ye Xiaoying repeatedly instructed his daughter and prepared to resign and retire next month. In the Tai’an Palace, Ming Dedi sat on the throne, with Xiao Lingchen and Xiao Se standing below. As the emperor expressed his emotions, Xiao Lingchen unceremoniously accused him of hypocrisy. The Dragon Edict Scroll had offered another solution, but he would rather watch Lord Langya die than punish traitorous ministers.

Ming Dedi had known that such a move would risk instability and threaten his throne—even endanger the entire city. Just because Xiao Lingchen did not rebel didn’t mean he forgave the emperor. To him, be it the world or the nation, the throne was nothing. As for who Ming Dedi should choose as emperor, Xiao Lingchen mockingly said that if the emperor hated a certain prince so much, he should just give the position to him.

After all, anyone who ascends the throne is doomed to be alone. After Xiao Lingchen left, Xiao Se finally voiced what he had long buried in his heart. He exposed that the reason Ming Dedi killed Lord Langya might not have been because of circumstance, but because he feared Lord Langya’s rising power. As expected, Ming Dedi’s expression changed, admitting that he was merely a puppet bound to the throne. The Red King, Xiao Yu, remained ambitious.

Soon, the entire city was on high alert, and all forces secretly searched for Jin Yan—because he held the signed petition from the officials, a document as powerful as the Dragon Edict Scroll. Xiao Se had to get it first; otherwise, if it fell into Xiao Yu’s hands, he would use it to force officials into serving him. As Xiao Se had predicted, Jin Yan secretly slipped into Jin Xian’s residence—only Jin Xian could protect him.

Meanwhile, Jin Xuan wanted nothing more than to silence Jin Yan permanently. As the two conversed, the White King, Xiao Chong, suddenly arrived, deliberately revealing to Jin Xian that he had taken over the Grand Court's investigation of the officials’ petition. Xiao Se immediately learned of Xiao Chong’s movements. Ji Xue rushed to the Yong'an Marquis Residence, saying that Xiao Chong intended to hand Jin Yan over to Baixiao Hall, and hoped Baixiao Hall would intervene for protection.
