This storm finally settled. Sikong Changfeng personally hosted Xiao Chong. Upon learning his purpose in coming, he repeatedly emphasized that the grudges of Tianqi City had nothing to do with Xueyue City, subtly distancing the relationship between the two. Lei Wujie, Sikong Qianluo, and others were chatting casually and happened to mention Lord Bai, Xiao Chong's eyes.

Xiao Se revealed that he had lost his sight after accidentally eating poisonous pastries as a child, and no treatment from imperial physicians had helped. Later, Xiao Chong summoned Xiao Se alone. Unfortunately, after so many years apart, everything had changed. Xiao Se's attitude towards Xiao Chong was drastically different, and his words were full of alienation.

Xiao Chong conveyed an imperial decree to Xiao Se, saying that as long as he was willing to return to Tianqi City, all past mistakes would be forgiven. However, Xiao Se refused the decree. Even if it meant risking execution, in his eyes, he had done nothing wrong in the past. Precisely because of Xiao Se’s determination, Xiao Chong didn’t insist further but gave him three days to reconsider and provide an answer.

Cang Ming felt it wasn’t worth it for Xiao Chong, since Xiao Se had something to do with his blindness back then. But Xiao Chong believed they had all been just children who didn’t understand right or wrong. Sikong Changfeng and Li Hanyi discussed Lord Bai’s arrival at Xueyue City. Ye Ruoyi silently stood at the doorway and listened to their entire conversation. As she turned to leave, she unexpectedly encountered Xiao Chong face to face.

Xiao Chong hoped that, given their childhood bond, Ye Ruoyi could personally persuade Xiao Se. Ye Ruoyi agreed verbally but had other thoughts and delayed going to see Xiao Se. Ye Ruoyi’s father, Ye Xiaoying, was a renowned general personally nurtured by Lord Langya. Due to his decisiveness in killing, he was nicknamed “the Butcher. ” Ming Dedi deliberately leaked news of Xiao Se to Ye Xiaoying, knowing he owed Xiao Chuhe over the years.

If Xiao Se could return to Tianqi City, he hoped Ye Xiaoying would handle the matter properly. Soon, the news reached the ears of the five Grand Supervisors. Three of them wanted to know Jin Xian’s stance. Jin Xian refused to intervene in the struggle, which drew dissatisfaction from Jin Wei and the others.

Jin Xuan suddenly entered and warned the four of them to follow the Emperor’s will: be content and avoid disgrace, know when to stop to prevent disaster, and only then could they endure. Jin Yu of the Records Division knew that Jin Yan held Xiao Chuhe in high regard. Jin Xian likewise lamented why one had to make such choices, as the court disputes had hurt the bonds between these princes from a young age.

There was once a time when Xiao Chuhe and his second brother Xiao Chong were extremely close. But later, Xiao Chong lost his sight after eating pastries brought by Xiao Se. Even after all these years, it remained a knot in Xiao Se’s heart that he could never forget, often waking up from nightmares because of it. Lei Wujie, with nothing better to do, asked Xiao Se to accompany him to find Ye Ruoyi.

Xiao Se couldn’t refuse and reluctantly agreed. Ye Ruoyi was sitting dazed in a pavilion when Xiao Chong passed by and smelled the aroma of tea. He approached and struck up a conversation. Ye Ruoyi lied, saying she had gone to see Xiao Se the previous day and could clearly sense he had changed. He was once a spirited youth full of confidence and charm, but now he seemed lazy and dispirited, indifferent to everything and everyone.

Just as she finished speaking, Lei Wujie arrived with Xiao Se, unexpectedly running into Xiao Chong. Xiao Chong wasn’t bothered by Lei Wujie’s sudden intrusion. After briefly asking his identity, he brought the topic back to Xiao Se. Lei Wujie was surprised to hear that Ye Ruoyi had gone to see Xiao Se alone. Seeing the look Ye Ruoyi gave him, Xiao Se went along with it and admitted they had met the previous day.

Xiao Chong didn’t press further after hearing this from Xiao Se. After sitting for a while, he got up and left. Since there were no outsiders around, Lei Wujie finally breathed a sigh of relief and quickly returned to his talkative self. He began boasting to Ye Ruoyi about his exploits in storming the Tower to the Heavens, hoping she would see him in a new light.

Sikong Changfeng sat in his room looking at the Vermilion Bird token, recalling many past events. Sikong Qianluo had learned the origin of the token from her father and resolutely took up the position of Vermilion Bird Envoy. She stated that she only wanted to protect those she cared about, just like her father when he was young. Despite everything, he eventually took on his responsibilities.

Sikong Changfeng respected his daughter’s choice and asked her about her feelings for Xiao Se. Sure enough, Qianluo blushed at the question.
