The Best of You in My Mind Recap

Episode 1 Recap

During their high school years, Lin Xichi and Xu Fang, childhood sweethearts, often played pranks on each other, a testament to their close bond. One day, a math teacher, exasperated by the students' lack of focus before the college entrance exam, emphatically explained a difficult 12-mark question on the blackboard. Lin Xichi, in a mischievous whisper, convinced a drowsy Xu Fang that the teacher had asked him to erase the board.

Believing her, Xu Fang promptly wiped away the entire problem, much to the teacher’s fury, who expressed his constant frustration with Xu Fang sleeping in his class. When "grudges" arose between Lin Xichi and Xu Fang, they would settle them with an arm-wrestling match. Classmates eagerly gathered around as they battled, with Lin Xichi ultimately losing.

Xu Fang declared that she owed him a "punishment" and gave her a week to decide what it would be, as long as it was legal. That night, Lin Xichi's father woke her, telling her he was off to work and had prepared instant noodles for breakfast. She complained about the endless instant noodles, longing for spicy chicken.

Her father promised that her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, would return from Rong City the next day and could make whatever she wished. The following morning, Xu Fang discovered his bicycle seat had been removed and its frame scratched. Lin Xichi, waiting for him, confessed to the prank, a playful fulfillment of her "punishment," while also subtly suggesting his newfound speed was due to her work.

True to her word, Lin Xichi wore a pair of black stockings to school, a dare from Xu Fang. She confidently displayed them despite the stares and whispers from her classmates, who speculated about the teacher's reaction. Even when Xu Fang pointed out that she would likely get her parents called, Lin Xichi defiantly declared she would take her punishment outside.

Her younger brother, Lin Xi Geng, found her standing outside the classroom, teasing her about being punished for messing with Xu Fang's bike. She playfully threatened Xu Fang, asserting the stockings looked good on her. Later that day, Lin Xichi was at home playing with her dog, Fang Fang, and the black stockings, when her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, returned unexpectedly early from Rong City.

She had brought many ingredients to cook Lin Xichi's favorite spicy chicken, but Lin Xichi worried her mother would misunderstand the stockings. Over dinner, Zheng Fang Fang discovered the black stockings. A tense argument erupted between her and Lin Chang Ge, Lin Xichi's father. Zheng Fang Fang angrily accused Lin Chang Ge of bringing another woman into their home and showing no regard for their children, while he vehemently denied it, insisting they were just stockings.

She was disgusted by his presumed infidelity, while he maintained he was a good father. Overhearing the escalating quarrel, Lin Xichi, barefoot, rushed out to intercept her mother, who was declaring an urgent hospital matter required her immediate return to Rong City. Lin Xichi frantically tried to explain that the black stockings belonged to her, not to another woman.

However, Zheng Fang Fang, already in a taxi, dismissed her daughter's frantic pleas, urging her to focus on her college entrance exam and stay out of adult affairs. Lin Xichi was left alone, blaming herself and the stockings for her mother's departure. Later, while Lin Xichi was consumed by her distress, Xu Fang, seeing her upset, tried to engage her in a conversation about their earlier conflict in math class.

Meanwhile, her math teacher, frustrated with Xu Fang's inattention, asked him what he actually knew, to which Xu Fang jokingly replied, "I know archery." That night, Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng discovered that Fang Fang, their beloved dog, had run out through an unlocked door. Lin Xichi, despite the pouring rain, ventured out alone to search for Fang Fang, while Lin Xi Geng stayed home.

Xu Fang soon joined her in the search, offering her an umbrella and suggesting they split up. As Lin Xichi searched, she was devastated to witness her father, Lin Chang Ge, kissing another woman in a car. Overwhelmed with grief, she wandered into the street and was almost hit by a car before Xu Fang pulled her to safety.

Shattered by what she had seen, Lin Xichi tearfully questioned Xu Fang if eternal love or relationships that never end truly existed. She blamed herself, believing her mother wouldn't have left if she hadn't brought the black stockings home. Xu Fang tried to console her, suggesting that her parents had been separated for so long that a permanent breakup was normal.

Lin Xichi vehemently rejected this, insisting her mother loved them, wanted to be home, and only stayed in Rong City for work, always happy to return and caring for her father. She adamantly refused to accept their separation. When Xu Fang tried to explain that children couldn't resolve adult problems, Lin Xichi angrily told him to stay out of her family's affairs.

She criticized him for being childish, particularly regarding the black stockings dare, and declared she never wanted to arm wrestle with him or see him again. A flashback revealed Xu Fang's childhood, at eight years old, moving into a new house after his father's business prospered.

He witnessed a heart-wrenching scene: a young Lin Xichi crying hysterically as her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, left, telling her daughter that she was moving to Rong City for work, but would call and that Lin Xichi, as the older sister, must take care of Lin Xi Geng and herself. This painful memory left an indelible mark on Xu Fang, making him realize that beneath Lin Xichi's often boisterous demeanor lay a deep, unspoken sadness.

He understood that part of her remained in childhood, unable to fully move past that trauma. Back in the present, Lin Xi Geng found Fang Fang, and he and Lin Xichi returned home soaking wet. Lin Xi Geng questioned Lin Xichi and Xu Fang about their serious fight. Lin Chang Ge, seeing Lin Xichi out late, implied she was causing trouble, further adding to the tension.

Later, Lin Xichi called her mother late at night, yearning to hear her voice and asking about her and Lin Xi Geng. Zheng Fang Fang expressed her hope for Lin Xichi to succeed in the upcoming college entrance exam and achieve her dream of studying veterinary medicine at Rong University. Lin Xichi once again pleaded with her mother to return home and live with them.

Zheng Fang Fang, reiterating her demanding work schedule and an upcoming surgery, promised to talk later and hung up, leaving Lin Xichi in despair. The next morning, Lin Xi Geng offered Lin Xichi some jujube juice from their father. He found her packing to move to their grandfather's house, where she intended to stay for a few days to focus solely on her college entrance exam preparation. She firmly told him to leave and not disturb her.

Later, Xu Fang went to Lin Xichi's house, where Lin Xi Geng informed him that Lin Xichi had moved to their grandfather's house to focus on her studies for the Rong University veterinary medicine program and wouldn't return until after the exam. Remembering Lin Xichi's cutting words from their last argument, Xu Fang chose not to disturb her, leaving without a word. Another flashback to their early childhood showed young Lin Xichi and Xu Fang on a rooftop.

Lin Xichi explained that her mother had told her that whenever she missed her, she should look south, as that's where her mother lived. She believed the rooftop offered the clearest view. She then expressed her desire to write messages on balloons for her mother, and Xu Fang assured her that her mother would see them. Lin Xichi quietly confessed her longing for her mother.

Episode 2 Recap

A young Lin Xichi said goodbye to her dog, Fang Fang, after giving him a dog tag, telling him she would always find him and to take good care of her brother. Her younger brother, Lin Xi Geng, questioned why she was leaving without saying goodbye to Brother Fang. Lin Xichi simply said she had nothing to say to him at that moment.

Years later, Lin Xichi finally arrived at Rong University, thrilled to pursue her desired major and live in the same city as her mother. On her first day, she sought directions to the female dorms, receiving help from a passing male student.

She then tried to rescue a cat named Mimi stuck in a tree, but a student named Ye Shao Wen advised her that her presence was scaring the cat and suggested leaving food and water while the crowd dispersed. He explained that trust takes time with animals. After successfully helping the cat descend, Ye Shao Wen introduced himself as a student in the veterinary medicine department.

Lin Xichi, who also chose the same major because of her love for animals, introduced herself and mentioned her parents worked in Rong City. Lin Xichi’s mother helped her settle into the dorm, meticulously arranging her belongings and warning her against catching a cold. Lin Xichi, however, found her mother's actions disruptive and messy. Holding a "lucky tea" packet, Lin Xichi secretly wished for no strange roommates.

Soon after, two other girls, Nie Yue and Xin Zi Dan, entered the dorm. Nie Yue, lively and outspoken, immediately declared herself the "big sister" of the dorm, being born on January 1st, and promised to look after both Lin Xichi and Xin Zi Dan. Lin Xichi shared that she was from Luo City, to which Xin Zi Dan excitedly revealed she was also from Luo City, suggesting they could travel home together for holidays.

Later, Lin Xichi, in a fit of pique, refused her father's offer of a bank card and instead secretly took a significant sum of money from Lin Xi Geng’s savings, leaving him a note about an emergency and promising to repay him double. Lin Xi Geng, discovering his "ultimate equipment" money gone, angrily called Lin Xichi, who, in turn, criticized him for not accepting their father's card and urged him to focus on his upcoming college entrance exam.

At the Veterinary Medicine orientation, the dean welcomed the new students, and senior Ye Shao Wen delivered a speech, offering his WeChat contact for any academic or life-related questions. Nie Yue and Xin Zi Dan were impressed by Ye Shao Wen's handsome and amiable demeanor, noting his reputation as the previous year's "Mr. Popular." Lin Xichi, however, found him "too gentle," preferring a "cooler" type.

Afterward, the trio ventured out for food, with Lin Xichi offering to treat them to Dairy Queen. While out, Lin Xichi confidently tried to win a prize at an archery stall for a young boy, claiming to be a seasoned archer. After several misses, Xu Fang unexpectedly appeared, guiding her hand to hit the target. His friend, Jiang Zheng Xu, expressed surprise upon seeing Lin Xichi, remarking that she wasn't as "scary" as Xu Fang had described.

Lin Xichi, recognizing Xu Fang without his glasses, learned he’d had eye surgery and was now wearing contact lenses. She couldn't believe he was the same "Fang Fang" she knew, especially after he revealed he was now a special admission to Rong University's archery team. The two childhood acquaintances bantered, acknowledging their "fated" reunion. Xu Fang jokingly invited Lin Xichi to an expensive meal, reminding her of a past promise, but Lin Xichi, now short on cash, declared herself "poor."

Over hotpot, Xu Fang teased her about her "poor smell," while Lin Xichi retaliated by reminding him of his "short, dark-skinned, skinny, and four-eyed nerd" past. She then challenged him to an arm-wrestling match, betting a month's worth of pocket money. Xu Fang deceptively let go of her hand before the countdown was complete, winning the match. When Lin Xichi claimed she didn't have her wallet, Xu Fang took her phone, easily guessing her password, and found only 800 yuan.

He calculated her debt to be 1,200 yuan, based on her monthly allowance, and declared himself her "creditor," demanding labor as repayment. Back in the dorm, Nie Yue and Xin Zi Dan questioned Lin Xichi about Xu Fang and Jiang Zheng Xu. Lin Xichi revealed Xu Fang was her childhood neighbor but referred to him as a "swamp" and an "enemy forever," lamenting her 20 yuan balance. Nie Yue wondered if Xu Fang's bullying behavior was a sign of affection.

The next morning, Nie Yue reminded Lin Xichi and Xin Zi Dan about the critical class selection, specifically warning against "Teacher Yan," whom a senior had dubbed a "devil" for frequently failing students. Despite Lin Xichi's early efforts, her computer experienced a blue screen, forcing her to select Yan Zhi Bin's class. She voiced her frustration about being stuck in his class and not wanting to be with Xu Fang.

Later, Xin Zi Dan informed Lin Xichi that she also got Yan Zhi Bin's English class and suggested they attend together, offering her "lucky tea." Lin Xichi openly shared her dire financial situation, which left her constantly hungry. Her friends offered her food, and she confided in them, asking them not to tell her parents, as she just needed to survive the month. She vowed to never speak to Xu Fang again, while Nie Yue continued to promise daily buns.

During a campus tour, Lin Xichi's mother visited, bringing many of her favorite snacks. Lin Xichi showed her a photo of her parents' seventh wedding anniversary. Lin Xichi asked if she could have lunch at her mom’s place and spend weekends with her, complaining about Xu Fang's "exploitation." Her mother, however, explained that living in hospital dorms made it inconvenient. She then asked if Xu Fang was indeed the boy who lived next door to them in the past.

Lin Xichi attempted to discuss a past misunderstanding involving "black stockings," but her mother quickly dismissed the topic, assuring her it was in the past and urging her to focus on her studies and health. Before leaving, her mother promised to visit whenever she had time. Excited by the visit, Lin Xichi called Lin Xi Geng to share the news about their mom.

However, Lin Xi Geng responded coldly to the mention of their mother and quickly hung up, though he immediately reverted to a cheerful demeanor. He then brushed off his studies, scoffing at a classmate's question about a geometry problem, mockingly suggesting that getting it right would mean winning the lottery, and boasted about his own indifference to his grades before mock exams began.

Episode 3 Recap

Rong University's first archery team was being formed, and Coach Liu, a former teammate of Xu Fang's previous coach, was looking for a new captain among the many newcomers. Fu Kuan Kuan, the previous captain, was confident he would retain his position, but Coach Liu's keen interest in Xu Fang created a sense of tension. Coach Liu directly asked Xu Fang to try for the captaincy, stating that his former coach had highly recommended him.

Though Xu Fang initially suggested Fu Kuan Kuan and claimed he wasn't suitable, Coach Liu insisted, believing Xu Fang's former coach wouldn't have been wrong about his abilities. The team then began shoulder training. During the first animal medicine dissection class, most students were repulsed by the task of dissecting a worm. However, Lin Xichi was surprisingly enthusiastic, even volunteering when Xin Zi Dan expressed fear.

She later excitedly shared a photo of her dissection results with Xu Fang, successfully ruining his appetite for lunch. Seeking revenge, Xu Fang later offered Lin Xichi a tempting array of dishes, including fried pork, sour beef soup, and stir-fried mutton with onion, on the condition that she praise him, "Sir Xu Fang," with one hundred virtues. Despite her initial reluctance, Lin Xichi, driven by hunger, reluctantly agreed.

She struggled to come up with so many compliments, even sarcastically comparing him to a "Jiang Zheng Xu." After she painstakingly listed all one hundred "virtues," Xu Fang only gave her a bowl of Laba congee, enraging her to the point of calling him names and threatening to send an embarrassing video of him to their high school group. Later, still in need of food, Lin Xichi reluctantly sought Xu Fang's help again.

Xu Fang tasked her with getting rid of Senior Jing Jing, who had been persistently pursuing him since their enrollment. Xu Fang, on a speakerphone call, made Lin Xichi pretend to be his girlfriend and tell Senior Jing Jing that he liked Lin Xichi. After the humiliating encounter, Lin Xichi had to run to escape Senior Jing Jing's wrath.

Back in the dorm, she recounted her past with Xu Fang, revealing that she was once the "boss" (Brother Chi) of their childhood neighborhood and he was her "follower," helping her with mischievous activities like climbing trees, stealing bird nests, and picking pomegranates. She expressed her frustration over his transformation from a compliant follower to a "bad guy." That night, returning to her dorm, Lin Xichi encountered a suspicious figure in camouflage and a baseball cap.

Believing them to be a thief, she attacked the person only to discover it was He Liyang, a well-known senior. He Liyang was the top science student of 2013 who had enrolled at Rong University with the highest math score in the province but had since failed multiple subjects due to excessive gaming, leading to her repeating a year.

He Liyang, who had been working as a walk-on, mentioned that Senior Jing Jing was "heavily looking" for Lin Xichi, adding to Lin Xichi's woes about her long university life ahead. The next morning, students in class openly discussed their intimidating teacher, Yan Zhi Bin, unaware that he was already seated, obscured behind the desk. He dramatically stood up, startling them. When Xu Fang arrived late, Lin Xichi tried to cover for him by claiming he was in the toilet.

However, Teacher Yan Zhi Bin, whose reputation for strictness was well-deserved, saw through her lie and recorded a demerit for Xu Fang. Xu Fang, unconcerned, stated that as long as he continued to play for the school's archery team, his grades didn't matter. Teacher Yan Zhi Bin issued a stern warning that neglecting their studies would lead to severe consequences.

Later, Xu Fang offered to treat Lin Xichi to a meal, but she declined, preferring to attend a departmental social gathering for new and senior students, which included a game of Werewolf. Meanwhile, Xu Fang was stuck with his training. During the Werewolf game, Xin Zi Dan cleverly dared a "defeated" Lin Xichi to get a WeChat ID from an archery team member, subtly handing her phone to Lin Xichi.

Xin Zi Dan correctly predicted Lin Xichi would approach Xu Fang for the task. Xu Fang, however, refused to give her his WeChat. Enraged by his refusal, Lin Xichi confronted Xu Fang, calling him a "rebellious dog," and jumped on his back, scratching him fiercely. Amidst the chaos, Xu Fang managed to press an acupoint on Lin Xichi, curing her hiccups. Despite their ongoing bickering, Lin Xichi was concerned when she saw Xu Fang bleeding from her attack.

She gently cleaned and disinfected his wound at the infirmary. As she treated him, Xu Fang seemed slightly flustered by her close presence. Even though they constantly provoked each other, Lin Xichi and Xu Fang were each other's only true friends, often using their "provocations" to alleviate tension.

Lin Xichi, while tending to him, admitted he was her "only friend" and her "creditor," fearing what would happen if he was seriously hurt, prompting Xu Fang to mock her by asking if she was afraid to live without him. Lin Xichi then suggested they stop fighting, to which Xu Fang dismissively replied, "Dream on."

Shortly after, a post appeared on the university's Tieba, featuring photos and claiming that Lin Xichi had asked the "school hunk" (Xu Fang) for his WeChat ID, was rejected, and in a fit of rage, assaulted him, sending him to the infirmary. This rumor quickly spread, earning Lin Xichi the unwanted nickname "Demon Chi." Overnight, she became infamous across the campus, drawing attention and whispers wherever she went. Lin Xichi, however, loudly protested the rumors, denying the accusations and questioning Xu Fang's "school hunk" status, calling him a "beast."

Episode 4 Recap

Lin Xichi found herself in a difficult position, struggling to clear her name from rumors circulating campus. When her roommates brought her food and noted her disheveled appearance, they suggested that she approach Xu Fang to clarify the situation on Tieba, the university's online forum. However, Xu Fang, seeing an opportunity to tease her, was not about to make things easy.

When Lin Xichi confronted him, he dismissed her concerns, suggesting that her attempt to pursue him was simply not working and she needed a makeover. This interaction only fueled Lin Xichi's determination, leading her to declare war on Xu Fang. Driven by a desire for revenge, Lin Xichi devised a plan to publicly "pursue" Xu Fang.

She began by subtly inconveniencing him, like secretly changing his food delivery order to her own dorm, treating her roommates to Yoshinoya, and attributing it to Xu Fang's generosity and poor calculations. She also left a cute pink item, like a band-aid, on his bed, much to his feigned annoyance, though he secretly found her actions endearing.

Xu Fang, in turn, posted on Tieba claiming he was being "harassed by someone" who "went mad because she had a crush on him but failed to get my WeChat." Lin Xichi feigned outrage, declaring her "crush" on him was "a joke" and explaining to Senior Ye that her actions were part of a "revenge plan" to make Xu Fang "know how it feels to be pursued."

She kept updating her Tieba account, calling herself "Fang Fang's cutie" and posting overly sweet messages about Xu Fang, even detailing his breakfast habits, like having egg crepes at 7:30 AM. Despite their public display of annoyance and "flirtation," with Xu Fang even pretending to be bothered by Lin Xichi's constant attention, they secretly cooperated, maintaining the facade. Over time, this elaborate charade began to exhaust both of them, feeling like a battle where both sides suffered losses.

Eventually, Xu Fang proposed a truce on his terms: Lin Xichi would apply to be an assistant for the archery team, with the salary compensating her for the "mental tortures." Lin Xichi, facing financial difficulties and needing to earn money, had been looking for work-study opportunities. After discussing options with Senior Ye, who confirmed that a university team assistant position offered a good allowance and contributed to scholarship points, she decided to go for it.

During her interview, she passionately described her experience taking care of her dog, treating it like her own child, and promised to care for the archery team with the same dedication. The coach, finding her personality and background suitable, accepted her, warning her it would not be an easy task. Upon joining the archery team, Lin Xichi quickly observed their struggles.

The team was unpopular and unaccomplished, overshadowed by popular sports like basketball and football, and faced the threat of dissolution within a year if they didn't achieve results. The coach had high hopes for Xu Fang, expecting him to be a catalyst for the team, but was disappointed by Xu Fang's poor performance, noting his incorrect stance and lack of upper body strength.

As captain, Xu Fang struggled with the basic movements and faced discontent from his teammates, who questioned his leadership. Lin Xichi overheard the coach's desperate phone call about the team's impending dissolution. Although she promised not to tell anyone, fearing it would affect morale, she discreetly informed Xu Fang. Wanting to boost the team's spirits, she played motivational music during their training.

However, their practice was interrupted by members of the basketball team, led by Jiang Zheng Xu, who mocked the archers for their "small build" and "easy" sport. A fight erupted between the two teams. As a consequence, Xu Fang, as captain, was singled out and punished by the coach to shoot a thousand arrows, a task that would last until midnight.

Lin Xichi vehemently argued with the coach, pointing out that Xu Fang was not the one who started the fight and had even tried to stop it. Despite her frustration, she accepted the punishment, reiterating to her teammates that only she was allowed to bully Xu Fang, and no one else. The grueling task of shooting a thousand arrows left Xu Fang's arm aching and powerless.

Lin Xichi found him in the men's changing room, struggling with his physical and emotional pain. He expressed his reluctance to be captain, his frustration with his poor performance, and the lack of appreciation from his teammates. Lin Xichi, though bickering with him, reminded him that the coach had high hopes for him. Seizing the opportunity, she challenged him to an arm-wrestling match, knowing his arm was weak.

Xu Fang, initially thinking she wanted to win back her pocket money, agreed. After Lin Xichi, using a trick, won the match, she made her true request: not money, but for him to persist—to stick with the archery team, remain captain, and continue to be an example for the team. Despite their constant bickering and teasing, their actions consistently showed their deep care and support for each other, reinforcing the unbreakable bond of their friendship.

Meanwhile, Lin Xi Geng, Lin Xichi's younger brother, was seemingly unrestrained. While engrossed in an online game, he was mocked by another player, Da Li, for being a high school senior and told not to play until after June 8th. Enraged, Lin Xi Geng vowed to find Da Li and beat him up. However, when Lin Xichi revealed to him over the phone that Da Li lived in Rong City, he fell silent, realizing the impossibility of his revenge.

Separately, Zheng Fang Fang, Lin Xichi's mother, took her daughter to her hospital staff dorm for the first time. Upon entering the simple room, which lacked even a kitchen, Lin Xichi's heart ached, realizing how difficult it must have been for her mother to live there alone for so long. She immediately asked her mother to come and live with her and the rest of the family.

Zheng Fang Fang, appearing slightly uncomfortable, quickly changed the subject by presenting Lin Xichi with a long-prepared birthday gift, an animal-themed item, which Lin Xichi loved, affirming her passion for veterinary medicine. Lin Xichi, still leaning contentedly on her mother's shoulder, steered the conversation back to her greatest wish: a family reunion. She expressed her satisfaction at being able to visit her mother in Rong City.

She then proposed that once she graduated and became independent, they could bring Lin Xi Geng and her father to Rong City to live together as a family. Zheng Fang Fang, listening to her daughter's hopeful aspirations, simply held Lin Xichi gently, offering silent comfort and promising to visit often, without committing to a full family reunion.

Episode 5 Recap

Lin Xi Geng received a late-night call from his sister, Lin Xichi, who had just visited their mother's dorms. Lin Xichi, longing for their family to reunite as it was in their childhood, urged Lin Xi Geng to study hard for university so as not to disappoint their parents. Lin Xi Geng, however, quickly dismissed her advice and abruptly hung up, claiming to be out of data.

Soon after, Lin Xi Geng's father entered his room without knocking, demanding Lin Xichi's credit card. He revealed that he had checked the transaction history and discovered Lin Xichi's allowance remained untouched, while several game top-ups were made from Rong City, indicating the card was with Lin Xi Geng. Lin Xi Geng tried to defend himself, stating that Lin Xichi refused to accept the money and had even taken his own lucky money.

Ignoring his protests, his father insisted he take advantage of his holidays and deliver the card to Lin Xichi in Rong City. Lin Xi Geng was quick to get online in his game, eagerly seeking a match. He called out "Big Li," a player he held a grudge against for humiliating him previously.

He Liyang, known as "Big Li" in the game, had blocked other game gurus from teaming up with Lin Xi Geng because he was a high school student preparing for his entrance exam. Undeterred, Lin Xi Geng challenged He Liyang to a face-to-face showdown in Rong City, specifically at University Rong. He Liyang readily accepted. The next day, Lin Xi Geng called Lin Xichi, announcing his arrival at her school gate and offering to treat her to dinner.

Surprised by his sudden visit, Lin Xichi agreed, but Lin Xi Geng clarified he was only staying for half a day and needed to meet someone at Cygnus Cafe first, asking her to call him after he was done. At the Cygnus Cafe, Lin Xi Geng finally met "Big Li" in person, only to discover it was Lin Xichi's roommate, He Liyang.

He Liyang taunted him, asserting her knowledge of all the game gurus in the area and how she had ensured no one would team up with him. Lin Xi Geng questioned her interference, but He Liyang stated it was her business if she encountered such a situation. She then challenged his intelligence, asking him to recite complex mathematical formulas.

When Lin Xi Geng admitted he didn't understand, He Liyang declared him unqualified to play games and handed him a stack of exercise books, telling him he could only challenge her again after completing them. Just then, Lin Xichi arrived, surprised to see her brother with her roommate. Lin Xichi proudly introduced He Liyang as a top science student who got into their university, urging Lin Xi Geng to learn from her.

Confused by their connection, Lin Xichi questioned why He Liyang was her roommate despite not being in the same batch, but He Liyang quickly excused herself, avoiding further questions. Later, as Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng ate, he handed her the credit card from their father. Initially reluctant, Lin Xichi admitted she was close to running out of her own money.

Lin Xi Geng revealed that Xu Fang hadn't actually tried to extort money from her when he "won" her allowance. Instead, he knew Lin Xichi was stubborn and sensitive about accepting direct help, so he found a discreet way to assist her. Lin Xi Geng estimated that Xu Fang had already spent far more on her meals and other necessities than the eight hundred yuan he had "won."

He urged Lin Xichi to stop fighting with their father, reminding her that their family reunion was her biggest wish and that her ongoing conflict with him was counterproductive. Lin Xichi, reflecting on his words and her father's concern, finally accepted the card. Lin Xichi later encountered Xu Fang, who was struggling during archery practice, being harshly criticized by Coach Liu for his incorrect form.

Fu Kuan Kuan mocked Xu Fang, while Yu Tong tried to offer him a drink, also subtly asking if Lin Xichi liked him, which Xu Fang denied. Lin Xichi felt a strong urge to defend Xu Fang against Lin Xi Geng's earlier taunts and impulsively treated her brother to another meal.

Stuffed from eating, Lin Xichi found herself on a bridge, gazing at a happy family and longing for her own family's reunion, which felt as distant as the clear blue sky. Lin Xi Geng had told her that her parents' relationship was like cars on the road, and she could only act as a lubricant, unable to control whether they moved forward, which resonated with her current feelings of helplessness.

Upon returning to her dorms, Lin Xichi found them empty and the door carelessly left open. Suddenly, she received a call from Ye Shao Wen, asking her to come to the rooftop because their cat, Mao Mao, was giving birth. On the rooftop, they discovered several newborn kittens. Ye Shao Wen warned her not to touch them, explaining that human scent could make the mother cat reject them.

Lin Xichi shared a personal story about her dog, Fang Fang, whose mother had died when it was young, which was why she chose to study veterinary medicine—to help animals in need. Their tender moment was interrupted when the administrator locked the rooftop door, trapping them inside. With their phones out of battery, Lin Xichi used Ye Shao Wen's phone to call Xu Fang for help.

As the evening chill set in, Ye Shao Wen chivalrously offered Lin Xichi his jacket. Shortly after, Xu Fang arrived. Upon seeing Lin Xichi in Ye Shao Wen's jacket, a flicker of irritation crossed his face. He quickly removed Ye Shao Wen's jacket and replaced it with his own, then introduced himself as Lin Xichi's childhood friend to Ye Shao Wen, who he quickly identified as a senior from the medical department.

Xu Fang then pulled Lin Xichi away, citing an urgent meeting with Coach Liu, ignoring Lin Xichi's attempts to properly thank and bid farewell to Ye Shao Wen. As they walked away, Lin Xichi questioned Xu Fang's abruptness and asked if Coach Liu was angry about her absence from practice. Xu Fang denied it and grew increasingly agitated when Lin Xichi continued to praise Ye Shao Wen's kindness and helpfulness.

She pressed him, asking if he was upset about helping her or if he simply disliked Ye Shao Wen. Xu Fang, clearly irritated, retorted with vague answers and called her "sick." Back in her dorm, Lin Xichi confided in her roommates about Xu Fang's inexplicable mood swings, perplexed by his behavior, as he used to tolerate her "torturing" him when they were children.

Her roommates probed, asking if her new, indescribable feelings for Ye Shao Wen—the staring, the warmth from his jacket, and her racing heart when they were alone—meant she liked him. They concluded that she did and advised her to make a move. Meanwhile, on the archery range, Xu Fang's frustration was evident in his practice. Jiang Zheng Xu relentlessly teased him, suggesting Lin Xichi was the cause of his bad mood.

Xu Fang vehemently denied any feelings for Lin Xichi, but Jiang Zheng Xu pointed out Xu Fang's jealousy, calling it a clear sign of love. He challenged Xu Fang, asking why he had helped Lin Xichi with her financial troubles and secured her a job with the archery team if he was only seeking revenge.

Xu Fang continued to deny his feelings, adamantly claiming it was "impossible" for Lin Xichi to find someone else, before angrily telling Jiang Zheng Xu to focus on his own practice. During archery practice, Coach Liu remained critical of Xu Fang's form, emphasizing that even if his flawed technique offered better control, it was incorrect and would not lead to success, noting that no national champion shot that way.

He insisted Xu Fang correct his "chicken feet" posture and relax his hands. Despite the persistent critiques, Xu Fang was determined to improve. Later, Coach Liu discussed the team's general lack of motivation with Lin Xichi, observing that most members simply practiced for college admission or to fulfill a task, lacking true passion for archery. Lin Xichi, however, offered a hopeful suggestion: holding a formal competition.

She believed a competitive environment would ignite their fighting spirit, create pressure, and reveal their weaknesses, ultimately pushing them to improve. Coach Liu enthusiastically agreed, recognizing the merit of "using competition as practice," and immediately committed to organizing the event, praising Lin Xichi's insightful idea. Lin Xichi was later seen looking at a textbook, remarking, "So serious. She's truly a top student," perhaps observing He Liyang's dedication.

Episode 6 Recap

Lin Xi Geng was overheard complaining to Jiang Zheng Xu about He Liyang, who had to repeat a year because she missed exams due to gaming. Jiang Zheng Xu expressed admiration for He Liyang, noting she was a top science student admitted with the best results. Later, in class, Lin Xi Geng was found asleep with drool on a practice book. His teacher discovered it was his own daughter's notes, realizing they were stolen and sold online.

Lin Xi Geng tried to argue he had a legal right to the book because he bought it, and even attempted to negotiate a price with his teacher, who refused to sell them back, insisting they were stolen. Fu Kuan Kuan was convinced Lin Xichi was interested in him, believing their connection was mutual. However, Xu Fang consistently interfered. When Xu Fang gave chocolates to Fu Kuan Kuan, he declared he disliked sweets.

Later, Xu Fang treated the entire team to milk tea, specifically telling teammates it was meant for Fu Kuan Kuan, which further infuriated Fu Kuan Kuan. As Lin Xichi prepared to leave for class, Fu Kuan Kuan offered to take her on his bicycle, only to find its tires deflated, a prank by Xu Fang. Enraged, Fu Kuan Kuan confronted Xu Fang, leading to a heated argument and physical altercation.

Fu Kuan Kuan warned Xu Fang to stay away from Lin Xichi, before escalating the conflict by aiming his archery bow at Xu Fang. The coach immediately intervened, reminding Fu Kuan Kuan of the strict archery team rule against aiming a bow at any person, even an empty one. He confiscated Fu Kuan Kuan's bow and demanded a resignation letter from the team.

Fu Kuan Kuan tearfully pleaded with the coach not to expel him, insisting he still wanted to compete and win a national championship. At that moment, Xu Fang stepped forward, taking responsibility for the incident and asking to share the punishment with Fu Kuan Kuan. The coach, visibly frustrated, decided to make both of them run laps until exhausted, instead of expelling them.

As they ran, Fu Kuan Kuan complained about the punishment, but Xu Fang pointed out that running was a better outcome than expulsion. He then clarified his actions, telling Fu Kuan Kuan to stay away from Lin Xichi, revealing his true motivation for getting involved. Their teammates watched and cheered them on, marking a rare moment of team unity. To celebrate Fu Kuan Kuan remaining on the team, Xu Fang offered to treat everyone to a hotpot meal.

On their way, they encountered members of the basketball team. One of the basketball players taunted them about their upcoming friendly match with Huaqing University, a renowned sports powerhouse. He then dropped a bombshell: the archery team would be disbanded within a year if they failed to achieve significant results, and a loss to Huaqing would only accelerate this process. The news cast a pall over the team, making their planned hotpot celebration at Tan Ya Xue Hotpot feel meaningless.

At the hotpot restaurant, the team members were visibly disheartened. They looked up "Ding Yi's legend" online, learning about Huaqing's formidable archer who won a world junior championship at age 12, maintained an unbroken winning streak, declined a spot on the national team to attend Huaqing, and was renowned for his "telescope" shot, where one arrow splits another already in the bullseye. This information further deflated their morale. However, Lin Xichi refused to let them give up.

She declared that Rong University also had its legends and proceeded to create inspiring, humorous stories about Yu Tong, Fu Kuan Kuan, and Yao Wang. She highlighted Yu Tong's past as a skilled archery club competitor, Fu Kuan Kuan's status as Rong City's ace archer, and Yao Wang's journey from a village to university through archery, boosting their spirits.

To continue motivating the team, Lin Xichi sneaked into the male dorms late at night, only to be discovered and pursued by the vigilant dorm manager. Just as she was about to be caught, Ye Shao Wen pulled her into a storage room, helping her hide and distracting the dorm manager. The next day, Lin Xichi thanked Ye Shao Wen for saving her from trouble.

She explained her determination to support the archery team, expressing her belief that they could achieve anything other teams could, especially after witnessing their hard work. Ye Shao Wen, sharing her desire to help, suggested they work together to raise awareness for the archery team across the school. With Ye Shao Wen's help, Lin Xichi secured the coach's permission for him to photograph the archery team.

She planned to use these photos for promotional posters and flyers, aiming to leverage their home advantage at Rong University. She then started making individual posters for each team member, turning them into "superstars," and even created a "special edition" collection of Xu Fang's photos. To cover the printing costs, Lin Xichi set up a stall on campus, selling the posters for 50 yuan each and photo sets for 10 yuan, with Xu Fang's special edition going for 100 yuan.

Xu Fang was greatly annoyed by her "commercial" venture and his photos being used without his consent. As the competition approached, Xu Fang's training suffered a setback. The coach criticized his performance, demanding he practice the standard archery stance. Xu Fang insisted he had been training but continued to miss the target, even hitting the coach's own target in frustration. He refused to abandon his old shooting method, arguing that the standard stance made him perform worse.

When he flatly refused to change, the coach removed his name from the competition roster, leaving Xu Fang feeling lost and questioning the direction of his efforts. Xu Fang shared his confusion with Lin Xichi, reminiscing about his first coach who taught him to completely immerse himself in archery, believing he only needed to "speak with the arrow." He lamented that this feeling was now gone.

He compared himself to Buzz Lightyear from "Toy Story," who believed he was a leader of a distant planet but ultimately discovered he was just a toy. Xu Fang felt like a "faulty toy," unsure if his hard work had been misguided. Listening intently, Lin Xichi remained silent until he finished.

Immediately after, she rushed to find Jiang Zheng Xu, demanding to know the full story behind the conflict between Xu Fang and the coach, determined to help Xu Fang resolve the problem from its root.

Episode 7 Recap

The coach, a former teammate and close friend of Xu Fang's first coach, reflected on his friend's past. A talented and hard-working seeded player, his friend had missed joining the national team at the age of thirty due to emotional instability during a major competition, leading to a crucial missed shot. The coach now saw a similar determined, talented, and energetic spirit in Xu Fang, which paradoxically became his greatest worry.

He aimed to guide Xu Fang to achieve the dream his friend couldn't, emphasizing that archery is not merely about strength or technique, but about maintaining composure and confronting oneself, unaffected by external pressures. Despite Xu Fang's stubbornness regarding his shooting posture, Lin Xichi advocated for him. She convinced Coach Liu that Xu Fang had matured since becoming captain, now acting seriously and responsibly.

His reluctance to change his technique stemmed from a fear of underperforming and failing to demonstrate the archery team's capabilities or improve their standing. Lin Xichi presented a target paper from Xu Fang's practice, showcasing his consistent high scores of nine rings or above, regardless of his technique. This evidence made Coach Liu realize his own rigidity and narrow-mindedness, admitting that as long as excellent results were achieved, a specific posture shouldn't be a limitation.

He then encouraged Xu Fang to unleash his full potential in the upcoming competition. As the friendly match against Huaqing University approached, the Rong University team was plagued by anxiety, feeling outmatched and dreading humiliation, especially on their home turf. Coach Liu acknowledged their feelings of inadequacy but stressed that a true athlete must possess an unyielding spirit. During a break, with the team visibly disheartened, he reminded them that personal growth requires pushing one's limits.

He pointed out the individual improvements of his athletes: Fu Kuan Kuan's enhanced stamina, Yu Tong's newfound ability to self-reflect rather than make excuses, and Yao Wang's recent abstention from junk food. He reiterated that archery is a personal battle, urging them to conquer their fears and cultivate a "champion's heart" before stepping onto the field. The friendly match commenced with a qualifying round, followed by an elimination tournament.

During the finals, the competition intensified between Xu Fang and Ding Yi from Huaqing University. Despite Ding Yi winning the first round, Xu Fang consistently landed bullseyes, allowing Rong University to catch up. The score reached a thrilling five-five tie, necessitating a sudden-death tiebreaker. As Ding Yi flawlessly hit a bullseye, cheers erupted from his team. Xu Fang, unfazed, put on his headphones, seemingly isolating himself from the external commotion.

He then released his arrow, striking near the center of the target, securing a hard-fought victory for Rong University. Coach Liu was visibly surprised and elated by the outcome, while the triumphant Rong University team, amidst roaring cheers from their fellow students, hoisted Xu Fang into the air in celebration. A celebratory dinner followed, hosted by the Rong University archery team.

Coach Liu, beaming with unconcealed pride, delivered a diplomatic speech, declaring "Friendship first, competition second" to their "brother schools" from Huaqing. The Huaqing team, though clearly disappointed by their defeat, maintained their composure while dining. Before leaving, Ding Yi approached Xu Fang, acknowledging his skill and expressing a keen anticipation for their next "real match." Amidst the celebratory atmosphere, Xu Fang paid little heed to the outgoing remarks of the Huaqing team.

His attention was fixed on Ye Shao Wen, who was diligently serving Lin Xichi. Xu Fang's jealousy was palpable. Sensing Xu Fang's feelings for Lin Xichi, Ye Shao Wen made it clear that despite their shared history as childhood friends, he had no intention of backing down. He openly declared his intention to pursue Lin Xichi.

Realizing that he couldn't simply deter rivals like Ye Shao Wen, Xu Fang knew his only option was to confess his feelings to Lin Xichi. That night, he found her and, in a rare moment of seriousness, apologized for the "horrible things" he had said during a rainy night in high school when they were searching for him. He admitted his inability to empathize with her pain at the time and regretted hurting her.

Lin Xichi, however, found his apology long overdue, revealing she had forgiven him the very next day. She recounted trying to find him then, just as he had later tried to find her at her grandfather's house, suggesting they were now "even." As Xu Fang tried to confess his feelings, stammering "I like you," he was unexpectedly interrupted. Xu Fang presented Lin Xichi with the bicycle he had won in the competition. She was overjoyed, excitedly riding circles around him.

Her pure joy deeply resonated with Xu Fang, yet his confession remained unspoken, perhaps out of a profound fear of losing her. When Lin Xichi accidentally fell while riding, Xu Fang, despite his initial concern for the bike, rushed to her side, his worry for her overriding everything else.

He dismissed the bicycle as "shabby" and wanted to abandon it, but Xu Fang insisted on carrying his prize, revealing how much he cherished it, a tangible symbol of his unspoken feelings. Xu Fang's confession remained unsaid, but Ye Shao Wen wasted no time. The very next day, he invited Lin Xichi to dinner. Unaware of the implications, Lin Xichi innocently sought Xu Fang's advice, asking what kind of girls boys typically preferred.

Xu Fang, exasperated, described a type completely opposite to her: quiet girls with long, flowing hair, wearing white dresses, and adept at coy charm, humorously implying she deserved "dog food" instead of a meal. It was clear that Lin Xichi was beginning to develop feelings for Ye Shao Wen, a fact Xu Fang remained painfully oblivious to.

Episode 8 Recap

Lin Xichi took Xu Fang's earlier advice to heart, appearing for her outing in a long, straight black wig and a white dress. Though her new look was a bit messy, Senior Ye was pleasantly surprised, complimenting her. Later, Xu Fang, seeing her transformed appearance, privately wondered if Lin Xichi's earlier question about what kind of girl men liked was subtly directed at him. Senior Ye chose an art studio for their date, believing it would appeal to her.

While he meticulously sketched "Lump," one of Picasso's famous dogs, Lin Xichi's canvas remained largely empty until the last minute. She quickly sketched a simple dog from her phone. To her surprise, Senior Ye interpreted her drawing as another rendition of Picasso's "Lump," marveling at their perceived shared understanding. He expressed delight at their "connection," leaving Lin Xichi feeling a mix of amusement and embarrassment.

As they left the studio, a gust of wind unfortunately blew Lin Xichi's wig off, leaving her mortified. Senior Ye quickly reassured her, saying she looked beautiful with either long or short hair. Their lunch at a Western restaurant proved equally challenging for Lin Xichi, who found herself struggling with her filet mignon, even questioning where the cut was located on the cow, relating it to an anatomy class drawing.

Senior Ye, noticing her struggle, wondered if his conversation about his interests was boring her, or if she hadn't learned about cow anatomy yet. Recognizing her discomfort, Senior Ye suggested another outing, taking her to a pet shop. Upon entering, Lin Xichi's demeanor instantly shifted; her eyes lit up as she excitedly identified various breeds like Labradors, Huskies, Schnauzers, Bulldogs, and particularly a Westie that she longed to hold.

Senior Ye, observing her relaxed state, noted that she seemed happiest there. He subtly indicated his ownership of the establishment by mentioning "our pet shop" and its focus on "advanced care services" for "purebred dogs which have had competitions," though Lin Xichi seemed oblivious to these clues. Back at school, Lin Xichi ran into Xu Fang and Jiang Zheng Xu, who were surprised by her changed appearance.

Xu Fang, noticing her long black wig and white dress, immediately mocked her, asking if she thought it was ugly and comparing her to Sadako. Lin Xichi, familiar with his taunts, lashed out, calling him a "dog" and declaring she wouldn't speak to him again. Their usual bickering escalated, resulting in a physical struggle. Eventually, Xu Fang called for a truce, counting to three for them to release each other.

He then surprisingly apologized and called her "Big Brother Chi," though he still playfully called her "the most stupid person in the world." He suggested they reconcile, offering to treat her to a meal the next day. The following day, Lin Xichi had abandoned her previous day's outfit, reverting to her usual self. When Xu Fang questioned why she didn't wear the wig, she retorted that she was afraid of scaring him with her "Sadako" look.

They opted for a simple street food meal, a familiar comfort for both. Lin Xichi admitted the steak from the day before hadn't filled her, leaving her hungry. As they ate, they reminisced about their childhood, recalling how they used to skip classes together for the same food. Lin Xichi remembered Xu Fang forging signatures, her father being frequently called to school when they feigned sickness together, and Xu Fang even writing her essays.

This simple interaction highlighted the ease and genuine comfort Lin Xichi felt when she was with Xu Fang, a stark contrast to her previous date. With Lin Xichi's birthday just days away, Xu Fang decided to give her his gift early, as her class was scheduled for a farm visit that day, followed by dinner with her mother.

He presented her with a rare Yugioh card, the very one she had desperately wanted to complete her collection as a child, and which she had asked him to give her for her birthday back then. Though Lin Xichi feigned disinterest, claiming she no longer collected such cards and didn't want it, Xu Fang insisted it was her birthday present, showing he still remembered her childhood wish. He then questioned if Senior Ye would also be attending the farm trip.

Days before her birthday, Lin Xichi had dinner with her mother, Zheng Fang Fang. During their meal, Lin Xichi asked about her parents' early relationship. Zheng Fang Fang recounted how her father, Lin Chang Ge, though reserved, had shown his deep affection by consistently bringing her warm jujube juice during the coldest winters, which eventually led to their marriage.

Lin Xichi, who had always perceived her father as a "strict person" even in his youth and complained he never cooked proper meals, expressed understanding for her mother's departure but hoped they could reconcile for the sake of her and her brother, Lin Xi Geng, to have a complete home. Later, with friends Nie Yue and Xin Zidan, Lin Xichi devised a plan.

She crafted a WeChat message, posing as Zheng Fang Fang, to send to Lin Chang Ge, reminiscing about the "jujube juice" and her desire for him to find warmth. Lin Chang Ge, however, responded with a cold message, telling her not to interfere in matters that hadn't concerned her for years. Lin Xichi initially misjudged his reaction, thinking it was just a bad mood, but her sister later confirmed that their father was simply being his usual stubborn self.

On the morning of her birthday, Lin Xichi awoke to a flood of WeChat messages wishing her well. She had to rush to meet Nie Yue and Xin Zidan, barely making it to the bus for their class trip to Hum Hum Organic Farm. There, Senior Ye, an animal medical student, greeted them.

He began instructing the class on how to safely handle and examine animals, particularly focusing on methods of "holding their horns and getting on their backs" for sheep, a crucial step before examination or vaccination. After demonstrating the technique himself, he invited students to try. Lin Xichi, with Nie Yue holding the sheep for her, successfully managed the technique. Afterwards, she helped a friend take a photo, but during this time, she inadvertently lost her phone.

Episode 9 Recap

A lost phone initiated an unexpected opportunity for Lin Xichi and Ye Shao Wen to spend time together. While trying to catch their bus by tractor, their journey was abruptly halted when the driver accidentally struck a small lamb. Ye Shao Wen quickly assessed the situation, identifying a fractured bone and administering basic first aid. His calm competence and gentle care for the injured animal deeply impressed Lin Xichi, stirring new feelings within her.

This unforeseen delay, however, caused Lin Xichi to miss numerous calls from Xu Fang. Upon her return to Rong City, Lin Xichi realized she was late for her dinner with her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, who called to cancel, citing an emergency surgery. Feeling guilty, Lin Xichi decided to go to the hospital dorms to wait for her mother.

There, she was surprised by Doctor Liu, who informed her that Zheng Fang Fang did not reside in the dorms but usually went home. This revelation deeply unsettled Lin Xichi, making the concept of "home" suddenly feel strange and unfamiliar. Doctor Liu later reported this encounter to Zheng Fang Fang. Panicked, Zheng Fang Fang immediately called Lin Chang Ge, realizing Lin Xichi had uncovered her lie.

They discussed how Lin Xichi had previously impersonated Zheng Fang Fang to message Lin Chang Ge, a message that triggered nostalgic memories for him about their university days and even inspired him to start making jujube juice for Lin Xichi. Upon Lin Xichi's return home, Zheng Fang Fang fabricated a story about having recently moved out of the dorms and promised to make up for Lin Xichi's birthday at a later date.

Observing her father's lingering affection for her mother, Lin Xichi decided to take matters into her own hands and arranged a meeting between them in Rong City, hoping for their reconciliation. Zheng Fang Fang, however, struggled with this deception, confiding in Lin Chang Ge her exhaustion and her fear that Lin Xichi would resent her once the truth was revealed, lamenting that she was forced to be "the evil one."

Ye Shao Wen, sensing Lin Xichi's passion for animals, offered her a part-time job at his family's pet shop, calling it the "most fitting birthday present" for her ambition to become a veterinarian. Lin Xichi, excited by the prospect of working with animals, eagerly accepted, which meant stepping down from her role as an archery team assistant. Nie Yue then took over as the archery assistant, quickly noticing Xu Fang's unusual preoccupation and lack of focus in Lin Xichi's absence.

Back at her dorm, Lin Xichi received a beautifully wrapped gift that a "handsome guy" had delivered. Her roommates immediately assumed it was from Ye Shao Wen, excitedly pointing out a mug, which they interpreted as symbolizing "a lifetime," and a book about "a girl in love." This led them to playfully tease Lin Xichi about being the first in their dorm to find a boyfriend, an assumption Lin Xichi, without question, readily accepted.

The next day, Lin Xichi eagerly began her new job at the pet shop, only to be surprised when she was immediately directed to clean a pile of dirty cages. She quickly realized the work was far from her dream of directly interacting with animals. The manager strictly monitored her, preventing any direct contact with the pets. Ye Shao Wen arrived later to help her, explaining that all new hires start with basic tasks.

Despite his assistance and presence, Lin Xichi felt no comfort or relief from the strenuous work and the unexpected reality of her new job. After a grueling day at the pet shop, Lin Xichi felt utterly exhausted, confessing to her roommate Xin Zi Dan that she found interactions with Ye Shao Wen tiring and required constant caution, unlike the relaxed ease she felt around Xu Fang.

Seizing this opportunity, Xin Zi Dan cunningly told Lin Xichi that her feelings of nervousness, restraint, and carefulness around Ye Shao Wen were actually signs of liking someone, as one naturally strives for perfection in front of a loved one. Xin Zi Dan, who secretly harbored feelings for Xu Fang, was well aware of his deep affection for Lin Xichi.

Therefore, she deliberately encouraged Lin Xichi to misinterpret her discomfort with Ye Shao Wen as genuine romantic interest, hoping that by pushing Lin Xichi and Ye Shao Wen together, she could create an opportunity for herself with Xu Fang. Meanwhile, Nie Yue, at Jiang Zheng Xu's urging, fabricated a story to Lin Xichi about Xu Fang "exploiting" and overworking her at the archery team.

This prompted Lin Xichi to vow to confront Xu Fang on Nie Yue's behalf, implicitly bringing her closer to the team. Jiang Zheng Xu's motivation for this scheme was his concern that if Lin Xichi were to fall for Ye Shao Wen, Xu Fang would be "alone forever." This collaborative effort also saw Nie Yue and Jiang Zheng Xu's own relationship growing warmer.

A clear shift was observed in Lin Xichi and Xu Fang's dynamic: when Lin Xichi confronted Xu Fang about "bullying" Nie Yue, he expressed his disapproval of her working at the pet shop and challenged her to an arm wrestling match, stipulating that if she lost, she could not go.

Unlike her past tendency to honor her bets, Lin Xichi now resorted to playful defiance and refused to yield, highlighting her evolving assertiveness and perhaps a deeper reluctance to be swayed by Xu Fang's demands when her new job was concerned. After the prolonged interaction with Xu Fang, Lin Xichi arrived significantly late for her second day at the pet shop.

The manager immediately reprimanded her, emphasizing the strict company rules and explicitly stating that Lin Xichi would not receive special treatment just because she was introduced by "the boss's son," Ye Shao Wen. Lin Xichi was visibly surprised by this revelation. Despite her immediate apologies and promises to work harder, her clumsiness during tasks earned her further harsh criticism. The manager scolding her for being a "slacker" relying on connections, sternly asserting that work demands responsibility and not just enthusiasm.

Overwhelmed and with tearful eyes, Lin Xichi admitted her mistakes before leaving the shop abruptly. Lin Xichi had initially envisioned her pet shop job as simply playing with animals, never truly grasping the depth of responsibility it required. Feeling unprepared for the demands of entering the workforce, and despite having previously promised Ye Shao Wen her commitment to the job, a tearful Lin Xichi apologized to him and decided to resign from the position.

Episode 10 Recap

Lin Xichi found herself conflicted about continuing her work at the pet shop. Though she had initially felt disgusted by the mundane tasks like cleaning cages, Ye Shao Wen gently encouraged her, sharing his own initial struggles and the grittier realities of being a future veterinarian. Lin Xichi admitted she wasn't ready for the profession.

Meanwhile, Xu Fang, disappointed that Lin Xichi was contemplating giving up after having insisted on working at the pet shop, reminded her that she needed to be responsible for her choices and stick to her commitments. He stressed that she shouldn't make him look down on her, then offered her milk and took her for noodles. The following day, Lin Xichi returned to the pet shop.

With Manager Yi Fang out sick with the flu, Ye Shao Wen found himself overwhelmed. Lin Xichi confidently offered her help, recalling how she had secretly observed the manager caring for the animals. As she cautiously trimmed the nails of a dog named Xiang Xiang, with Ye Shao Wen assisting, she was accidentally bitten.

Upon learning the news, Xu Fang immediately rushed to the epidemic prevention station, confronting both Ye Shao Wen for not being careful and Lin Xichi for her own carelessness. Lin Xichi tried to explain that such incidents were inevitable when working with animals, but Xu Fang remained firm, declaring he would find the dog owner and hold them accountable if it happened again. Though Xu Fang wanted to take her home, Lin Xichi insisted on returning to the pet shop.

Both Xu Fang and Ye Shao Wen, unexpectedly on the same page, agreed she should rest. The doctor explained her vaccination schedule. On the way back, Lin Xichi told Ye Shao Wen that reading "All Things Bright and Beautiful" had reignited her dream of becoming an "interesting and caring vet." She believed Ye Shao Wen had sent her the book, making her feel the injury was worth it.

Ye Shao Wen, initially surprised by her assumption, realized he had the same book and allowed her to continue believing it was from him. Xu Fang, still concerned, warned her about the dangers of rabies, prompting Lin Xichi to playfully retort that he would be her first victim if she contracted it.

Back at her dorm, Lin Xichi confessed to Nie Yue that she had mistakenly thought Ye Shao Wen sent the cup and book, only to discover they were from Xu Fang. She felt awkward and indebted to Xu Fang, especially since she had been somewhat harsh towards him recently. Nie Yue suggested she buy Xu Fang a birthday gift in return.

As the Chinese New Year approached, Lin Xichi expressed her strong desire for a family reunion in Rong City, asking her mother, Zheng Fang Fang, to invite her father, Lin Chang Ge, and brother, Lin Xi Geng. She longed for their family to celebrate the holiday together, something they hadn't done in years. Zheng Fang Fang agreed, though she noted her busy schedule as a doctor during the New Year.

She later confided in Lin Chang Ge that their children had grown up, and it was time to reveal the truth to them, to which Lin Chang Ge agreed. Meanwhile, a Code Blue warning for a cold wave was issued for Rong City. At the pet shop, Lin Xichi comforted the two dogs, Xiang Xiang and Qi Qi, whose owner, a writer, would not be returning for the New Year, relating their separation anxiety to her own childhood.

Back home, Lin Chang Ge informed Lin Xi Geng that they would be traveling to Rong City for the New Year. Lin Xi Geng initially resisted, citing the cold weather and the dreaded Spring Festival travel rush, preferring to stay home alone, but his father insisted. Xu Fang's friend, Jiang Zheng Xu, brought milk tea back to the team, explaining that Lin Xichi had asked him to buy drinks for everyone.

Jiang Zheng Xu then pressed Xu Fang about his passive approach towards Lin Xichi, warning him that Lin Xichi spent a lot of time with Ye Shao Wen. However, Xu Fang maintained that Lin Xichi had the right to pursue her profession and he wouldn't blame her for it, believing that "forced relationships are not sweet." Xin Zi Dan approached Xu Fang, offering him snacks and asking about Lin Xichi's injury.

Xu Fang admitted that Lin Xichi still had two injections left and asked Xin Zi Dan, as Lin Xichi's roommate, to help her keep her arm dry, to which Xin Zi Dan readily agreed. Jiang Zheng Xu attempted to confess his feelings to Nie Yue, offering her a gift and expressing a desire for "eternal friendship," but Nie Yue declined the gift. Instead, she cryptically asked him if he had seen the animated film "Tangled."

Confused, Jiang Zheng Xu enlisted his roommates, including Xu Fang, to watch the movie multiple times, trying to decipher Nie Yue's hidden meaning. His friends grew increasingly frustrated, but Xu Fang, drawing on his experience of watching Disney films with Lin Xichi as a child, offered an insightful interpretation. He explained that Nie Yue, being a "good student" and "good child," was likely torn between her established image and her curiosity about love, much like Rapunzel in her tower.

Xu Fang advised Jiang Zheng Xu to be more direct. Lin Xi Geng showed a remarkable improvement in his studies, even impressing his teacher, Ms. He, who was surprised by his attentiveness in class. This newfound motivation stemmed from the "secret scripture," an exercise book given to him by He Liyang. Lin Xi Geng cleverly used his knowledge of Ms. He's daughter, He Liyang, to gain favor.

He Liyang promised to lend him another subject's "secret scripture" once he completed the current one. Lin Xi Geng, eager to meet He Liyang, became highly motivated. However, he learned that the school had arranged a two-week winter training at a shooting and archery center in the neighboring province, meaning less time at home for the New Year, which was inconvenient for his plans to see He Liyang. He Liyang challenged him to finish the exercises quickly during the winter break, implying that their next meeting depended on his progress.

Episode 11 Recap

Xu Fang's friend tried to convince him to make a move on Lin Xichi, emphasizing that the upcoming winter training would separate them, but Luo City was his "home advantage" where Ye Shaowen wouldn't interfere. Xu Fang, however, explained that he couldn't go back due to the training.

He then practiced how he would tell Lin Xichi about his departure, reminding himself to buy her a ticket and instructing her to avoid sleeping past her station, talking to strangers, or drinking too much water. His driver then picked him up, and Xu Fang wished them a Happy New Year before leaving for his winter training.

Meanwhile, Xin Zi Dan approached Xu Fang, claiming Lin Xichi had asked her to go home with him since Lin Xichi herself wasn't returning to Luo City for the holidays. Xu Fang, pausing, said he'd ask Lin Xichi directly. He then called Lin Xichi, who confirmed she would be staying in Rong City to work at a pet shop.

During their call, Lin Xichi received another call from Senior Ye, who invited her to see fireworks for New Year's, which she accepted. Xu Fang ended his call abruptly, seemingly upset. Xin Zi Dan wished him happy holidays, but he walked away without a response. At the pet shop where Lin Xichi worked, Zheng Fang Fang and Lin Chang Ge, Lin Xichi's parents, arrived.

Zheng Fang Fang was highly critical of the shop's operations, pointing out unsecured dogs and water on the floor, questioning how it could aim to be the best pet shop in Rong City. Lin Xichi explained that the manager was out and another staff member was on sick leave. Zheng Fang Fang then pulled Lin Xichi aside to inform her of a sudden business trip, canceling their New Year plans together.

Lin Xichi was heartbroken, asking if she truly couldn't spend the New Year with her mother, and expressed feeling unneeded and inadequate. Back at the dorm, Lin Xichi talked to Xu Fang, who was packing for winter training. She mentioned Nie Yue hadn't told her about it and lamented feeling increasingly distant from the archery team. Later, Lin Xichi found her mug broken, which deeply upset her, making her wonder if everyone hated her.

Shortly after, Xin Zi Dan confronted Xu Fang, still pressing for a relationship with him, suggesting she wanted a boyfriend like Senior Ye. Xu Fang's response, implying Lin Xichi would be a better match for someone, made it clear he wasn't interested, crushing Xin Zi Dan's hopes. Devastated, Lin Xichi went to her mother's office. There, she saw a photo of Zheng Fang Fang with a man and a young girl.

Lin Xichi tearfully confronted her mother, asking if she had divorced her father and when. Zheng Fang Fang admitted it happened ten years ago. Lin Xichi, reeling from the betrayal, cried that her mother had lied to her for years, telling her she was away for work while having a new family. She expressed how her biggest wish had always been to live with her mother, and how she had waited for her to return.

Zheng Fang Fang tried to explain, but Lin Xichi was inconsolable, asking if she and Lin Xi Geng weren't good enough. She clutched a childhood birthday gift her mother had given her, recalling how her front teeth fell out the day her mother left. Lin Chang Ge called Xu Fang, distraught, saying Lin Xichi was missing and not answering her phone.

Xu Fang immediately promised to find her and asked his coach for a leave from winter training, explaining he had "lost something dear to him." He frantically searched for Lin Xichi, calling out her name. Lin Xichi, meanwhile, wandered the city alone, deeply distressed, pausing to watch a mother and child, which only amplified her pain. When Xu Fang called her, she hesitated but eventually answered.

Xu Fang finally found Lin Xichi, who was crying uncontrollably, calling out for her mother not to leave. Drunk and overwhelmed, Lin Xichi tearfully confessed to Xu Fang that "they bullied me," explaining that someone broke her mug and how her roommates disliked her working at the pet shop, suggesting she date a "fool" even though that "fool is a good person."

She then revealed the painful truth of her parents' divorce ten years ago, how they had pretended to be in love, and how she felt like "the world's biggest fool," believing no one wanted her and she was "not needed." Xu Fang gently reassured her, saying, "Don't you still have me?" Lin Xichi, comforted, replied, "Yes, I still have Fang Fang."

Lin Xichi refused to go back to school, so Xu Fang took her to a nearby hotel, booking two separate rooms. He carried the heavily intoxicated Lin Xichi to her room. As she tried to take a bath, she started to undress, but Xu Fang carefully wrapped her in a blanket. He made sure she was settled, told her his room was directly opposite hers, and instructed her to call if she needed anything. He then left, lingering for a moment at her door, ensuring her safety and privacy.

Episode 12 Recap

Lin Xichi was abruptly woken by a call from her brother, Lin Xi Geng, who expressed extreme worry, mentioning he heard she had been drinking with Xu Fang the night before and fearing she had blacked out. Lin Xichi dismissed his concerns, vaguely explaining she'd had a minor disagreement with a friend.

Lin Xi Geng then surprised her by revealing that Ms He's daughter, He Liyang, had returned, and that their father said they wouldn't be celebrating New Year in Rong City because their mother, Zheng Fang Fang, was on a business trip. Lin Xi Geng suggested Lin Xichi return with Xu Fang. Just as she tried to end the call, she was caught trying to sneak out of Xu Fang's room by him, who was brushing his teeth nearby.

Lin Xichi feigned waiting for him, and after he checked on her, they decided to have breakfast together. During their meal, Lin Xichi confessed her deepest fears and anxieties to Xu Fang, using the analogy of an abandoned dog. She described a dog whose owner promised to return, leading it to wait endlessly, even adopting the owner's profession and attending university in the same city, only to discover it had been discarded for a new pet.

Lin Xichi admitted her fear of being left without a home if her parents remarried, despite Xu Fang having previously suggested their separation. Xu Fang reassured her, promising that if she ever became "homeless," he would take her in and make her feel special. He also encouraged her to choose where they went next, and she decided against returning to her father's home, opting for her grandfather's instead.

Xu Fang then revealed he was heading to a pet shop and mentioned he had already asked Jiang Zheng Xu to cover for his training, allowing him to stay with her longer. Lin Xichi, still hesitant to go home, even considered staying in a hotel, fearing her father might lie to her again. However, Xu Fang accompanied her back to Rong City.

Upon their arrival, their father, Lin Chang Ge, formally confessed to Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng that he and Zheng Fang Fang had been divorced for a long time. He explained that they had kept it a secret when the children were young to protect them from emotional distress and to avoid affecting their studies, planning to tell them when they were older.

Lin Xichi reacted with anger, accusing them of deceit and of pretending to be a model couple for ten years. She felt foolish for having actively tried to mediate between them. Lin Chang Ge apologized, stating they had done their best within their capabilities to protect the children, not wanting them to suffer the lack of care often seen in children of divorced parents. Lin Xichi, overwhelmed, asked to be left alone in her room.

Lin Chang Ge expressed his hope that this conversation would not impact their normal lives, and Xu Fang left, promising to return in a few days after his training. Later, Lin Xi Geng found Lin Xichi awake and tried to coax her into spending the winter break with him. He expressed relief that she seemed strong, despite his initial worries about her reaction to the divorce news.

He confessed that he had known about their parents' divorce for a long time but had pretended ignorance for her sake. He explained that he had learned not to have expectations so as to avoid disappointment, stating he wouldn't blame either parent but would protect his sister from any hurt. He also had a phone conversation with their mother, Zheng Fang Fang, who asked about his exam preparation.

He told her she didn't need to treat him like Lin Xichi and echoed his sentiment about lowered expectations, reinforcing his commitment to protect his sister. Soon after, Lin Xi Geng proudly showed Lin Xichi that he had completed all the questions in an exercise book He Liyang had given him, making all other math problems seem easy. He mentioned he didn't dislike Ms He as much as he used to.

When Lin Xi Geng made a slightly disrespectful comment about Ms He, He Liyang immediately reacted by riding away on her motorbike, upset. Lin Xi Geng, calling her "Big Li," persistently chased after her on his bicycle, apologising and expressing genuine fear that she might act impulsively. He caught up to her, still apologising for his insensitive remark. He Liyang admitted that his concern sounded just like her mother's.

She shared how her strict mother had once torn up a novel she was secretly reading, leading He Liyang to vow that she would do whatever she wanted once she entered university, like riding her motorbike to experience freedom. She confessed that she didn't know how to face her mother now.

Lin Xi Geng asked why she didn't seek help from her father, and He Liyang revealed that her father had passed away when she was very young, leading Lin Xi Geng to quickly apologize. He Liyang then revealed that her mother often praised Lin Xi Geng in class, holding him up as a role model, completely unaware that He Liyang had given him the exercise book responsible for his academic leap.

He Liyang then gave Lin Xi Geng another exercise book, which he eagerly accepted, calling her his "saviour" and acknowledging his good fortune in meeting her. She cautioned him that life wouldn't always be smooth sailing, but that her help would equip him to overcome challenges. As He Liyang prepared to leave, Lin Xi Geng stopped her, revealing his sister's recent discovery of their parents' long-standing divorce.

He explained that although Lin Xichi appeared fine, she was deeply upset, and he didn't know how to comfort her. He asked He Liyang, as Lin Xichi's roommate, to talk to and guide her, believing He Liyang to be more mature. He Liyang responded that comforting words wouldn't help, and that Lin Xichi simply needed time to heal. She acknowledged Lin Xi Geng's selfless concern for his sister despite his own emotional pain.

He Liyang advised him that both his parents and his sister would find their own ways to deal with their issues, and he too needed to find his own way forward. She then playfully called him a "wimpy kid" and offered him a New Year's red packet. On New Year's Eve, Lin Chang Ge celebrated with Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng, preparing dumplings and fish, and offering them New Year wishes and red packets.

Lin Xichi, still emotionally drained, soon retreated to her room. Throughout the night, fireworks illuminated the sky. Lin Xi Geng and Lin Xichi received New Year greetings from friends and family, including a message from Xu Fang wishing Lin Xichi well and expressing his happiness at having met her. Zheng Fang Fang messaged Lin Xichi, wishing her a Happy New Year, reaffirming her support, and proposing a heart-to-heart talk after she returned to Rong City.

He Liyang also wished Lin Xi Geng a Happy New Year, with him lightheartedly remarking he would catch up to her, to which she teased him about doing so by riding a bicycle. He Liyang was with her mother, who probed about her meeting any boys at university. He Liyang deflected the question and pointed out the beautiful fireworks outside.

As they watched, He Liyang noticed streaks of white hair at her mother's temples, a poignant realization that her mother was aging more than she had imagined. Meanwhile, Jiang Zheng Xu called, and she showed him the fireworks from her location, while his city did not allow fireworks.

Episode 13 Recap

Lin Xichi watched private fireworks burst into vibrant colors outside her window, a special display arranged by Xu Fang. She thanked him for the beautiful start to the New Year. The next morning, Lin Xichi called Xu Fang, asking him to bring food upstairs because she refused to eat the leftovers from New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, Lin Xichi's mother, Zheng Fang Fang, arrived at the dorms, hoping to see her daughter.

However, Lin Xichi seemed to be avoiding her, and Zheng Fang Fang lamented that her daughter might not want to open the door. Xu Fang encountered Zheng Fang Fang and confirmed that Lin Xichi had mentioned "what happened to their family."

Zheng Fang Fang then sought to explain her past actions to Xu Fang, stating she hadn't intentionally lied to Lin Xichi and that leaving was "the best lifestyle" she believed she could offer her at the time, though she admitted to feeling sad about it. Xu Fang, however, countered that "staying with her" would have been better, pointing out Lin Xichi’s deep upset from "false hope" and "disappointments" that made their shared past feel "ridiculous" to her.

Understanding Lin Xichi’s pain, Zheng Fang Fang then requested Xu Fang to "spend more time with and comfort" her daughter, to which he readily agreed before departing for Rong City. Shortly after, Xu Fang arrived with food for Lin Xichi, finding her sitting on the floor without shoes. He carefully placed a pillow under her, then covered her bare feet with a blanket, ensuring her comfort. Lin Xichi mused that despite her sadness, she still felt hungry.

When Xu Fang suggested they go out, she initially refused but eventually conceded. Later, Lin Xichi earnestly asked Xu Fang if he would truly take her in if she were "abandoned by all." He reaffirmed his promise, assuring her she would always have his "unique kennel" as a safe haven, even jokingly referring to himself as an "old dog" with a bad temper that she couldn't live with.

Lin Xichi visited Xu Fang’s home, where his parents greeted her warmly, marveling at how much she had grown and how beautiful she had become. Xu Fang’s mother expressed her relief that Lin Xichi and Xu Fang took care of each other at university, though Lin Xichi quickly clarified that it was mostly Xu Fang looking after her.

His mother enthusiastically stated that she had always regarded Lin Xichi as "part of our family" and "as my daughter," which prompted Xu Fang to discretely try and temper her directness. While Lin Xichi excused herself to the restroom, Xu Fang suggested she could wait in his room if she felt bored. Once inside, she looked at the numerous photos of them together, a flood of shared memories washing over her.

It was then that a profound realization struck her: Xu Fang was truly "the one who never leaves me." Xu Fang’s mother called him, again asking him to care for Lin Xichi, to which he reassured her that everything was alright. Lin Xichi then approached Xu Fang, confessing, "I never thought the one who's always by my side wasn't my father or mother. It's you." Xu Fang immediately promised, "I'll always be with you."

However, Lin Xichi’s next words, "We'll be best friends forever," left Xu Fang's parents, who were listening nearby, visibly anxious, his mother muttering, "That's very worrisome." Xu Fang then attempted to confess his feelings to Lin Xichi, beginning, "Chi Chi, I have something to tell you." But before he could continue, Lin Xichi interrupted, saying she already knew he had been secretly communicating with her mother for her sake. He tried again, "Actually, I have something else to tell you.

I. . . I. . ." yet stumbled, changing the subject by asking if she wanted ice cream. They went to a Dairy Queen, a place Lin Xichi had always wanted to try in high school but found too expensive. Xu Fang’s offer to treat her quickly turned into a playful argument when he made her pay for most of her choices, prompting her to call him "stingy."

As they enjoyed their ice cream, Xu Fang playfully reminded her not to eat food that falls on the floor, alluding to an unconfirmed past incident. Later, while Xu Fang browsed Weibo, he read a question asking what it feels like to be in love with an idiot. Lin Xichi, ever quick-witted, suggested that his "future girlfriend" would be able to answer that question for him. Upon returning to the university dorms, Lin Xichi felt a strange sense of unfamiliarity.

She confirmed with Nie Yue that she had arrived safely. In the dorm, Lin Xichi saw Xin Zi Dan and offered to help her unpack, but Xin Zi Dan politely declined, stating she preferred to do it herself. When Lin Xichi’s cup broke and she asked to borrow Xin Zi Dan’s, Xin Zi Dan suggested she ask Nie Yue instead, who supposedly had an extra one. During this period, Lin Xichi encountered an elderly man at a pet shop.

He shared a poignant story about his recently deceased dog and his wife, who was gravely ill in the hospital. To protect his wife’s fragile health, he had lied, telling her their beloved pet was merely staying with a friend. Lin Xichi empathized deeply with his predicament, acknowledging that sometimes "lying is also a form of love."

However, she pondered the immense pain the wife would feel upon learning the truth, having been denied a final farewell and the right to grieve. Lin Xichi reflected on how difficult it is to be perceived as a "fool," unable to complain because everyone claims their actions are for her own good. Back in the dorm, Nie Yue observed Lin Xichi’s newfound dedication to studying, wondering what had sparked this change.

Lin Xichi explained she felt she had "wasted too much time" during her first year. Nie Yue playfully teased her about being in a relationship, which Lin Xichi vehemently denied, dismissing Nie Yue's jokes about her involvement with the pet shop and archery team as "nonsense." The next morning, Lin Xichi requested Nie Yue to call her before her archery practice, fearing her alarm wouldn’t wake her for Mr. Yan’s 10 AM class.

Nie Yue complied, but her initial call was hung up, and a subsequent attempt went to a busy line. Lin Xichi woke late, panicked, and confronted Nie Yue for not waking her. Nie Yue recounted the calls and correctly deduced that Xin Zi Dan must have been responsible, having also broken Nie Yue’s cup before the holiday. Nie Yue speculated if Xin Zi Dan's actions were "because of Xu Fang," a question Lin Xichi couldn’t answer.

Lin Xichi admitted she felt unhappy about Xin Zi Dan’s behavior, confessing that she had become "timider" as she grew older, unlike the fearless "Big Brother Chi" she once was. Nie Yue called her a "coward," urging her to address misunderstandings directly. On campus, Xu Fang convinced Lin Xichi to give him a ride on her bicycle, playfully insisting she was strong enough despite her protests.

As they wobbled along, he intentionally guided them erratically before dramatically feigning a fall, clutching his shoulder and groaning in pain. Lin Xichi, genuinely concerned, asked if he was alright and if he could move his arm. Xu Fang insisted on going to a hospital rather than just the infirmary, and Lin Xichi agreed. Upon arriving at the hospital, Lin Xichi realized it was her mother’s workplace and questioned why Xu Fang had chosen this particular hospital.

He vaguely replied that it was "one of the top three hospitals in the city" and thus the best place for his supposedly injured arm, which was crucial for his archery training. Inside, the doctor declared his injury "nothing serious," but Xu Fang, still playing his role, pushed for an MRI scan before quickly retracting the request due to the cost, claiming his pain had miraculously subsided after seeing the doctor.

The doctor then suggested several physiotherapy sessions, acknowledging the "dangerous" nature of his archery profession. Later, Lin Xichi spoke on the phone with Xu Fang’s coach, Liu Xiao Jiang, who sternly admonished Xu Fang for his "mess up with the training" due to missing winter practice and now the new injury. The coach warned him of severe consequences if he continued to neglect his training and health.

Xu Fang apologized to Lin Xichi for causing "all the troubles" and for the coach’s call, to which she playfully retorted that she was used to his antics. Just then, Zheng Fang Fang appeared. Xu Fang, noticing her, exaggerated his shoulder pain, exclaiming that it "has come back." Zheng Fang Fang approached, feigning surprise and a coincidental encounter, then invited them to eat. Xu Fang quickly suggested Zheng Fang Fang change clothes while they waited downstairs.

He then made an excuse that "something came up" and left Lin Xichi and her mother alone, creating an opportunity for them to interact. Alone with Lin Xichi, Zheng Fang Fang asked where Xu Fang had gone. Lin Xichi explained he had left due to an engagement. When Zheng Fang Fang suggested a meal for just the two of them, Lin Xichi’s pain in her shoulder resurfaced, indicating her lingering emotional distress.

Xu Fang, noticing her renewed discomfort, asked if she was still "unhappy" or "upset" and even offered to run away with her. Lin Xichi confessed that while she didn’t necessarily want to avoid her mother, seeing her implied a forgiveness she wasn't ready to give. She expressed the profound difficulty of being forced to forgive and "be mature" when she still felt "cheated."

She revealed her frustration that everyone claimed to act "for my sake," making her feel she had "no right to be angry or resentful," despite feeling very angry and resentful and longing to "blame someone for all this." Xu Fang gently but firmly advised her that she didn’t "need to be mature."

He urged her to voice her anger and blame whoever she needed to "until you can forgive them," emphasizing the importance of listening to her own heart, even if it meant choosing to "ignore or refuse to see her forever." Zheng Fang Fang then happily invited Lin Xichi to a celebratory meal and a shopping trip for new clothes. Zheng Fang Fang, delighted that Lin Xichi waited for her, treated her to a meal at Pizza Hut.

She brought Lin Xichi her favorite orange juice and pizza, reminiscing about how Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng used to love pizza and playfully compete for the fruit salad as children. Zheng Fang Fang admitted that she believed Lin Xichi had either forgotten or deliberately chosen not to remember these moments. She then attempted to explain her past actions, acknowledging Lin Xichi’s blame for her leaving.

Zheng Fang Fang stated that she had her own "dream" and that in life, one often faces difficult choices, sometimes requiring the sacrifice of certain things for one’s aspirations. However, Lin Xichi cut her off, demanding to know, "But why did you sacrifice me and Geng Geng?" Zheng Fang Fang tried to clarify, "Chi Chi, It's not as what you think."

Episode 14 Recap

The dinner ended unhappily as Lin Xichi confronted her mother. Her mother explained that sometimes people must sacrifice things for their dreams, facing many difficult choices in life. Lin Xichi questioned why she and her brother, Lin Xi Geng, were the ones sacrificed. Her mother insisted it wasn't what Lin Xichi thought and that she never wanted to leave them, but Lin Xichi remained firm.

Lin Xichi asserted that she was no longer the little girl who could be easily appeased with a meal at Pizza Hut. She told her mother that she was not there when Lin Xichi needed her and that she had grown up, could live independently, and no longer missed her as much. Because of this, Lin Xichi stated that she could not forgive her mother.

Back in the dorms, Lin Xichi listened to Xu Fang on the phone, asking if he preferred white or pink. After he said white, she declared she would smash the white one. She then deliberately broke Xin Zi Dan’s mug, which took her four attempts. She quickly ran out of the dorms, admitting she had done something wrong and needed to escape.

Later, she went to a store and purchased a new mug, a simple white one, to replace the broken one. When Lin Xichi returned to the dorm, she found Nie Yue and Xin Zi Dan discussing the broken mug. Xin Zi Dan tried to suggest that stray cats might have knocked it over. Lin Xichi, however, admitted that she was the one who broke it but insisted Xin Zi Dan should clean up the pieces herself.

Xin Zi Dan then claimed she didn't break Lin Xichi's mug, escalating the argument. Nie Yue attempted to mediate, urging them to clean up and go to sleep. Separately, a pet shop employee called the owner of two pets, Qi Qi and Xiang Xiang, to check in as the owner had not picked them up. The owner, a writer, apologized, explaining that she was working on an important book and needed an undisturbed environment.

She offered to pay the fees, but the employee expressed concern that the pets were lonely and needed their owner's company. Some time later, the owner returned to the pet shop to retrieve Qi Qi and Xiang Xiang, acknowledging that she felt guilty for being away and that she missed them too, realizing she couldn't leave them. At the gym, Jiang Zheng Xu was working when Nie Yue arrived.

He asked her how many days it had been since they first met. After a brief interaction, Nie Yue walked away, and Jiang Zheng Xu chased after her, asking her to return. When Lin Xichi and Xu Fang entered the gym, Jiang Zheng Xu's friends quickly departed. Xu Fang jokingly commented on Jiang Zheng Xu's fierce personality but noted he still had friends. Jiang Zheng Xu playfully retorted that he befriended Xu Fang to prevent him from harming others.

Meanwhile, Jiang Zheng Xu prepared for a special occasion. He ascended to the roof of a building, sitting on the edge, causing alarm among students and a coach below who feared he might attempt to jump. They tried to shout to him, but he couldn't hear them. When Nie Yue arrived, she too was terrified, believing he was suicidal.

Jiang Zheng Xu explained that it was their 100th day together and, inspired by the movie "Tangled," he was there to "pick up his Rapunzel" from the "tower." He then asked Nie Yue if she would be his Rapunzel and be with him. Nie Yue was initially annoyed he had scared her, but eventually, they shared a hug, prompting cheers from the crowd below. Later, Lin Xichi was wiping chairs in a room when Xu Fang approached her.

She appeared flustered and quickly walked away. Xu Fang smiled to himself and continued wiping chairs, eventually stumbling as he did so. That night, Lin Xichi had a vivid dream. Xu Fang appeared amidst heart-shaped candles and flowers, approaching her and asking her to be his girlfriend. She woke up abruptly, startled by the dream, muttering to herself, "What kind of dream am I having? What am I thinking? Did I fall in love with Xu Fang?"

She repeated the thought, clearly questioning her feelings. Still confused by her dream, Lin Xichi called Lin Xi Geng for advice. She asked what it meant to dream of someone confessing love. Lin Xi Geng suggested it was a reflection of her daytime thoughts. Lin Xichi wondered if it meant she couldn't accept the person in her dream.

Lin Xi Geng then asked if her heart beat faster when that person was near, if she felt happy seeing them, and if she would feel bad if they kissed someone else. Lin Xichi answered yes to all, strongly reacting to the idea of the person kissing someone else. Lin Xi Geng then asked if the person was Xu Fang, and Lin Xichi confirmed it.

Lin Xi Geng concluded that Lin Xichi finally understood her feelings, but Lin Xichi then worried if Xu Fang liked her back. Soon after, Lin Xichi received a call from Ye Shaowen, who informed her that a dog named Harry had run away from the pet shop. Lin Xichi immediately went to help, joining Ye Shaowen in the search. Ye Shaowen explained he had lost Harry when he briefly tied the leash to a bench to tie his shoelaces.

They split up to search. Lin Xichi was frantic, but Xu Fang calmly approached, handed her an umbrella, and reminded her to be careful crossing the road. Later, Lin Xichi asked Xu Fang if he believed there were any relationships in the world that never changed or people who never separated. Xu Fang sensed something was amiss.

Shortly after, Ye Shaowen approached Lin Xichi and confessed his feelings, telling her he liked her blunt personality, courage, mischief, and even her weaknesses, especially when she wore a white dress. Lin Xichi apologized, explaining that while she considered him excellent and a role model, she had recently realized she had feelings for someone else. Ye Shaowen asked if it was Xu Fang.

Lin Xichi thanked him, and offered to resign from the pet shop if her feelings for Xu Fang made him uncomfortable. Ye Shaowen dismissed the idea, stating it was unnecessary, praising her love for animals and how difficult it would be to find such a dedicated employee. He congratulated her for understanding her own feelings and asked if they could still remain good friends, to which Lin Xichi readily agreed.

Lin Xichi called Lin Xi Geng again to discuss Xu Fang. Lin Xi Geng asked what she thought of him as a person. Lin Xichi described him as having a bad temper and a long face. Lin Xi Geng then inquired if she had fallen in love with Xu Fang, suggesting she might be confusing friendship with love. Lin Xichi again confirmed her feelings, asking how she would know if it was love.

Lin Xi Geng reiterated the signs: a racing heart, happiness when seeing him, and feeling upset if he interacted with other girls. Lin Xichi affirmed all these signs. She then asked if Lin Xi Geng thought Xu Fang would like her back and if she was a big fool for asking. Lin Xi Geng warned her that pursuing Xu Fang was a significant matter concerning her future happiness and advised her to be cautious.

Lin Xichi began meticulously planning how to pursue Xu Fang, initially titling it "Plan to conquer Xu Fang," but then changed it to "Plan to conquer Fang Fang" to be less obvious. The first step in her plan was to treat him so well that he would become dependent on her. The second was to praise him profusely, and the third was to dress up to maintain his interest, noting that men are visual creatures.

That evening, Xin Zi Dan approached Lin Xichi, holding a new mug. She apologized for the previous incident, explaining she couldn't find an exact replica of the broken mug. Lin Xichi declined to accept it, stating that since she had also broken one of Xin Zi Dan's mugs in the past, they were now even. She agreed to reconcile on the condition that Xin Zi Dan teach her how to do makeup.

Xin Zi Dan readily agreed, offering Lin Xichi access to all her cosmetics. Xin Zi Dan then asked which lipstick color suited her, and Lin Xichi remarked that the pink one Xin Zi Dan was currently wearing looked nice. Nie Yue, witnessing their reconciliation, exclaimed, asking if it was a "century-long make-up" and urged them to applaud.

Episode 15 Recap

To improve Lin Xichi's fashion sense, Xin Zi Dan meticulously went through Lin Xichi's closet, lamenting that all her clothes were either childish or masculine, lacking any feminine charm. Xin Zi Dan insisted that girls must wear clothes that make them look slim, warning Lin Xichi she didn't want to appear like a "walking bucket" in front of boys, especially given her height.

Despite the cold, Lin Xichi bravely removed her thermal underwear and donned a skirt, making her way to the archery team's practice. With lipstick on and an overly gentle demeanor, Lin Xichi arrived at the archery field. She positioned herself near Xu Fang, who was training, and began to shower him with exaggerated compliments like "You're so amazing!" and "You're my number one!"

, drawing curious stares from the other team members who noted how much she had changed from their usual bickering dynamic. Xu Fang, completely bewildered by her uncharacteristic behavior, struggled to maintain his focus. He asked if she had put on lipstick, remarking that she looked like she had "just ate a dead mouse." He also pointed out that she was not dressed warmly enough.

Unable to get her to quiet down, Xu Fang eventually shooed her away so they could continue practice. One of his teammates observed that if a "tough girl" like Lin Xichi started flattering herself and dressing up, it meant she had a crush on someone. The teammate speculated she might be interested in Ye Shao Wen, prompting Lin Xi Geng, who was nearby, to urge Xu Fang to act before Lin Xichi became someone else's girlfriend.

Lin Xichi, in her own thoughts, acknowledged her frustration with Xu Fang's lack of response, calling the whole endeavor "tiresome." The next day, Lin Xi Geng, determined to vet his potential brother-in-law, met Lin Xichi in Rong City. He had arranged for them to visit the pet lifestyle center owned by Ye Shao Wen's family.

While Lin Xichi was initially impressed by Ye Shao Wen's good looks and wealth, Lin Xi Geng's persistent questioning about Ye Shao Wen's relationship status made her uncomfortable. Lin Xi Geng shamelessly tried to set them up, stating he needed to evaluate any potential future brother-in-law. Lin Xichi grew increasingly annoyed by his meddling, feeling he was "worse than her future mother-in-law."

When Lin Xi Geng suggested Ye Shao Wen was a good match, Lin Xichi firmly declared, "Xu Fang's way better." To her surprise, Xu Fang suddenly appeared, having overheard her confession. He playfully questioned where she had come from, and Lin Xichi, flustered, tried to blame Lin Xi Geng for calling him. Xu Fang then suggested they all go for hot pot, teasing Lin Xichi by asking if she knew he had just gotten his salary, indicating he'd treat them.

At the hot pot restaurant, Lin Xichi felt an unfamiliar shyness around Xu Fang. She quickly excused herself to the washroom, where she gave herself a stern pep talk in the mirror, resolving to be more assertive. Meanwhile, Lin Xi Geng, still trying to profit from the situation, asked Xu Fang if he had overheard Lin Xichi's comment about him being "way better." Xu Fang, with a smirk, confirmed he had.

Lin Xi Geng then directly asked Lin Xichi if she had fallen in love with "Brother Fang," even attempting to extort money from her to keep quiet. When Lin Xichi returned, she tried to act like a demure lady, serving Xu Fang food, but Lin Xi Geng saw right through her "idiotic" charade. The conversation then shifted to Lin Xi Geng's upcoming exams, much to Lin Xichi's annoyance.

After dinner, Lin Xi Geng left for the train station, and Xu Fang offered to ride Lin Xichi back, despite Lin Xi Geng's playful reminder of a previous incident where Xu Fang had injured his arm during a ride. Xu Fang insisted his arm was recovered and offered a sweet, almost out-of-character kindness that Lin Xichi found "unusual." On the bicycle ride, Lin Xichi sat behind Xu Fang.

When Xu Fang made a sudden brake to avoid a collision, Lin Xichi instinctively hugged him tightly. Though surprised, she quickly checked if he was alright. Back in his dorm, Xu Fang was visibly pleased, looking at his arm where Lin Xichi had held him and smiling to himself. His roommate, Jiang Zheng Xu, noticed his strange behavior and later received a call from Lin Xi Geng.

Lin Xi Geng asked Jiang Zheng Xu to keep an eye on his sister, emphasizing that this was her first relationship and he needed to oversee it. He even blackmailed Jiang Zheng Xu by threatening to tell Ms. He about her daughter if he didn't cooperate. Jiang Zheng Xu reluctantly agreed. Later, Xu Fang's friends also noticed his newfound giddiness.

They teased him about having a crush, and when Xu Fang admitted it was Lin Xichi, they urged him to confess, telling him there was only a "piece of paper" between them that needed to be torn. Motivated, Lin Xichi formulated a "Fang Fang's birthday plan" which included buying a cake, a present, and a candlelight confession. After purchasing a cake, she sneaked into Xu Fang's dorm while he was asleep and playfully drew on his face.

When he woke up, Xu Fang tried to calm himself, repeatedly reminding himself that he liked her and needed to be gentle. However, he quickly became frustrated when the ink wouldn't wash off. Lin Xichi, undeterred, offered to help him remove the ink with essential balm, getting intimately close as she applied it to his face. She playfully admonished him to "learn to be mature" and "control your temper" on his birthday.

While Xu Fang was in the bathroom washing his face, Lin Xichi quickly drew the curtains and lit the candles on the birthday cake. When he returned, she urged him to make a wish. Xu Fang jokingly wished she would be "less troublesome." Lin Xichi then presented her handmade gift: a meticulously embroidered dog, which she had spent all night making. She explained that the dog symbolized protection from injuries during his matches and training.

Xu Fang confessed he often didn't know what she was thinking, but then directly asked, "Are you crushing on me?" Lin Xichi, flustered, avoided the question by telling him to make another wish. Xu Fang then blew out the candles, causing Lin Xichi to exclaim in frustration. He explained he was "feeling a bit nervous" but then made a new wish: "You need to be my girlfriend. Will you?" Lin Xichi accepted, confessing, "I like you.

I think I can make your wish come true." As they leaned in for their first kiss, Xu Fang's roommates suddenly burst in, interrupting the moment and asking about a missing watch. Xu Fang swiftly grabbed Lin Xichi's hand and pulled her out of the dorm. They ran through the campus, playfully bickering. Xu Fang teased her about having a crush on him for a long time, and Lin Xichi joked about him being full of himself.

He confidently told her she was lucky to have him as a boyfriend, promising to take good care of her and never bully her again. As they reached her dorm, they exchanged a sweet goodbye, but Xu Fang called out her name, stopping her. Lin Xichi confessed that everything felt "unreal" and had changed so suddenly. Xu Fang leaned in and gently kissed her head, asking if that made it "real enough."

Lin Xichi chuckled, saying it just made it "more unreal." Back in her dorm, Lin Xichi bounced around excitedly, unable to contain her joy. Xin Zi Dan immediately noticed her elated state and guessed something good had happened. Lin Xichi excitedly told her that she and Xu Fang were officially in a relationship. Xin Zi Dan was overjoyed but quickly scared Lin Xichi with her loud reaction. Lin Xichi asked her to keep it a secret.

When asked about her next plan, Lin Xichi jokingly wished they would kiss "next year," then corrected herself to "after three years." Soon after, Lin Xi Geng called Lin Xichi, congratulating her on getting a "brother-in-law" and confirming his knowledge of her new relationship with Xu Fang. Lin Xichi, though surprised he knew, urged him to keep it a secret.

Lin Xi Geng, still in communication with Jiang Zheng Xu, continued to rely on him for updates on Lin Xichi's relationship, insisting he needed to ensure Xu Fang didn't bully her, much to Jiang Zheng Xu's chagrin.

Episode 16 Recap

It's Lin Xichi and Xu Fang's first day as a couple, and she plans to win him over by making him breakfast. Lin Xichi brings ten buns for Xu Fang, who has also prepared breakfast for her - a cake and milk tea. As they eat, Lin Xichi jokingly threatens Xu Fang, saying if he breaks up with her, he'll be cursed. Xu Fang playfully counters, suggesting the curse would also apply to her.

He assures her he'll never abandon her, reassuring Lin Xichi. Afterwards, they meet up with friends, who tease them about their relationship. At the library, Lin Xichi hides behind a book, secretly plotting how to win Xu Fang over. They communicate by passing notes, creating a sweet and intimate atmosphere. When Lin Xichi drinks from Xu Fang's water bottle, she jokingly considers it an indirect kiss, even though she wants their first kiss to be three years away.

Later at the school cafeteria, Xu Fang spots Ye Shaowen approaching. To assert his claim, Xu Fang holds Lin Xichi's face and loudly announces their plan to visit the zoo together. At the zoo, Lin Xichi becomes disheartened seeing the animals caged up. She expresses her love for dogs, admiring their loyalty, which she contrasts with the deceitfulness of humans. However, Xu Fang is different and special to her. Xu Fang notices Lin Xichi is not having fun.

He tells her they don't have to come back if she doesn't like it. Lin Xichi asks Xu Fang what his favorite animal is, and she tells him dogs are her favorite animal. She explains to Xu Fang that they're loyal, but humans know how to lie. Then she tells Xu Fang he's different, he's her Fang Fang. As Valentine's Day approaches, Xu Fang invites Lin Xichi to his home.

Lin Xichi wonders if she should buy something for Xu Fang's parents. She used to visit to get food and gifts. Xu Fang playfully agrees that she has stolen his parents' precious son. When they arrive at Xu Fang's house, his parents welcome Lin Xichi warmly. Xu Fang's mom mentions that she's been waiting for this day, because she's always wanted Lin Xichi to be part of their family.

Looking at photos in Xu Fang's bedroom, Lin Xichi feels like she's always been a part of the family. That night, a sudden snowfall transports them back to their childhood memories. They reminisce about how they were always together, and how they loved to eat snow. They decide to go to their favorite noodle shop to eat Xuecai shredded pork noodles. At the noodle shop, they order the same noodles they always get during snow days.

The lady boss remembers them and gives Xu Fang extra Xuecai. As they eat, they reflect on how much they cherish their friendship. Lin Xichi says the mustard tastes good in the noodles. Xu Fang mentions that the fireworks show has been canceled because of the snow. Xu Fang then buys all the flowers from a flower vendor.

Xu Fang gives Lin Xichi a wrapped gift and tells her that she can keep the password for the rest of her life. He teases her that she can't open it until she knows the password. Outside, Xu Fang leads Lin Xichi closer to him and points to the fireworks, which begin to go off. Amidst the fireworks, Xu Fang unexpectedly kisses Lin Xichi for the first time. Lin Xichi thinks to herself that the things she planned to do in 3 years were all completed in one night. She returns home still processing the kiss.

Episode 17 Recap

Time seemed to fly by when Lin Xichi and Xu Fang were happy together. Their relationship became widely known and received many blessings, though it was occasionally interrupted by a silent caller whose unknown number would dial through but never speak. This minor annoyance, however, did not diminish the affection between Lin Xichi and Xu Fang.

Lin Xichi playfully questioned Xu Fang about what he would have done if she had never realized her feelings for him, to which he responded he might have stayed single "for a while." She teased him about potentially dating other girls, while he playfully retorted, asking if she truly wanted him to be single forever. When the silent call came through, she wondered if it was someone seeking revenge, perhaps a "Senior Jing Jing" who liked Xu Fang.

As the college entrance exams approached, Lin Xi Geng fully immersed himself in studying. Soon after, he received his university acceptance letter from Rong University for Game Design, with registration set for August 15th. Ms. He, his former teacher, was deeply moved, expressing her pride that "the kid that troubled me in class" had achieved such success. Lin Xi Geng confessed he once thought he would end up as an excavator operator.

He credited his admission to Rong University to He Liyang’s motivation, much to Ms. He’s surprise, who didn't realize they knew each other since her daughter had been in Rong City for two years. Lin Xi Geng praised He Liyang as an exceptional daughter and gave Ms. He a sincere bow of gratitude. Later, He Liyang’s mother asked her about Lin Xi Geng.

He Liyang, without revealing their true connection, simply stated she knew his sister from Rong University and playfully dismissed the incessant messages on her phone as a customer service number, though her mother seemed to sense something deeper, subtly smiling as she observed her daughter's hidden joy. To celebrate Lin Xi Geng's successful admission to Rong University, Lin Xichi and Xu Fang invited him to dinner. To their surprise, He Liyang was also invited.

Lin Xi Geng toasted He Liyang as his "savior" and the biggest contributor to his success, stating he wouldn't be there without her, while He Liyang humbly attributed his success to his own efforts. During the meal, Lin Xi Geng's close attention to He Liyang became evident. Lin Xichi playfully reminisced about Lin Xi Geng wetting his bed as a child and crying for her help, or ripping his pants while climbing a wall to play truant.

Lin Xi Geng, in turn, teased Lin Xichi about her first meal at the university with Xu Fang, which happened because she was "poor at that time." The siblings' playful banter, combined with Lin Xi Geng's constant focus on He Liyang, made Lin Xichi and Xu Fang notice a romantic interest. After gaining admission to Rong University, Lin Xi Geng found more reasons to approach He Liyang.

He clumsily concocted a reason to ask if they could walk to class together, despite being in different departments with different classes. Driven to integrate into He Liyang's life, he even went to her motorcycle team's training ground, offering to help with various tasks like carrying water, washing bikes, and refueling. He Liyang's teammate, Brother Fei, complimented Lin Xi Geng's helpfulness and observant nature, noting that everyone, including another teammate named Hui Hui, liked him.

Lin Xi Geng watched with joy as He Liyang freely raced around the training track. However, the dangerous sport led to an unfortunate accident. During a practice session, He Liyang lost control and fell, her body hitting the ground. As her consciousness faded, she heard Lin Xi Geng's desperate cries becoming distant until they were inaudible. Following the successful surgery, He Liyang awoke to a devastating discovery: her right foot was completely numb and immobile.

She struggled to imagine a future where she couldn't walk, questioning how she would face life. Despite well-meaning but hollow comforts, Lin Xi Geng diligently and tenderly cared for her. Lin Xichi, visiting her sister, observed her brother's deep concern and tacitly approved of his devoted care, suggesting she would bring cards next time for them to play games.

Lin Xi Geng brought various nourishing foods for He Liyang, like rock sugar and pear, bone soup, and millet porridge, reassuring her to ask if she needed anything. Lin Xichi, while appreciating his care, gently urged him to leave as Xu Fang's competition was approaching and he needed to focus on that. With the Nationwide College Archery Invitational looming, Xu Fang and Lin Xichi shared a bittersweet farewell.

Lin Xichi reminded Xu Fang to focus, telling him to view the competition as just another training session and each arrow as a normal one. She asked Nie Yue, a teammate, to livestream the match and make sure to film Xu Fang. Lin Xichi confessed she wished she could be there to cheer him on, but her teammates encouraged her to have faith in Xu Fang.

Upon arriving at the competition venue, Lin Xichi initially marveled at the large scale, but quickly calmed down, signing in as an "assistant" since family members were not allowed in the closed-door competition area. After a series of qualifying rounds and eliminations, the final match came down to Xu Fang and his long-standing rival, Ding Yi. As the final arrow approached, with Ding Yi having just scored a nine, Xu Fang needed to surpass nine points to win the championship.

However, as he focused on the distant target, a blinding flash of white light filled his vision. The weight of everyone’s expectations and trust surged into his mind, overwhelming him with unprecedented pressure. As a professional athlete, handling pressure was crucial. Despite his vision failing him, Xu Fang relied on his instincts and muscle memory, closing his eyes to release the final arrow.

When Xu Fang was announced as the champion of the Nationwide College Archery Invitational, the crowd erupted in cheers. Lin Xichi, watching the livestream, could not contain her excitement, screaming and cheering along. Yet, her joy was quickly mixed with both anticipation and worry about the future.

She had seen a Weibo post comparing Xu Fang to the "Sharpshooter" Li Guang, hailing him as "the future hope of China's archery team," and briefly considered captioning a shared post with "This is my boyfriend." However, she knew that if Xu Fang truly joined the national team, they would face a future of infrequent meetings. Lin Xichi expressed her concern, wishing he could always stay by her side.

After their call, Xu Fang's teammates found him still practicing alone, unable to stop, despite the coach's attempts to make him rest. The coach reminded him that archery required a strong mentality and that practicing under pressure was ineffective, urging him to rest for the upcoming team event and telling him he was the best. Xu Fang, however, appeared troubled, questioning himself, "What's wrong with me?"

Episode 18 Recap

The National College Archery Invitational’s group category began with Rong University team competing fiercely. Lin Xichi cheered enthusiastically for Xu Fang and their teammate Jiang Zheng Xu. As the final arrow approached, Rong University was two points ahead, needing only a steady shot from Xu Fang to secure victory against Huaqing University. Lin Xichi, remembering Coach Liu's past encouragement for Xu Fang, believed in him, telling him, "We'll win."

However, a strange unease seemed to unsettle Xu Fang as he prepared for his shot. Despite the team's strong lead, his final arrow shockingly missed the target entirely, leading to Rong University's unexpected defeat. The loss sent shockwaves through the team. Jiang Zheng Xu immediately confronted Xu Fang in disbelief, demanding to know why he missed, stating Xu Fang had never missed a shot in his life.

As their heated argument escalated, Ding Yi appeared, casually remarking to Xu Fang that at least he had secured his individual championship. This comment fueled Jiang Zheng Xu's suspicion, leading him to accuse Xu Fang of deliberately missing the team shot to secure personal glory. Xu Fang, in turn, stonewalled his agitated teammate, simply saying, "You can think whatever you want." Enraged, Jiang Zheng Xu called him a "jerk," and other teammates openly labeled him "scum" and "rubbish."

Eventually, Xu Fang shockingly confessed, stating he "lost to Huaqing University on purpose" and had never truly liked archery, claiming he only joined for academic reasons. He questioned why they took it so seriously, suggesting he'd rather graduate as a national champion than sacrifice his individual achievements for the team. Jiang Zheng Xu, heartbroken, reminded Xu Fang of their shared dream and how archery was a "fair sport" where no one could cheat.

He bitterly told Xu Fang that he no longer deserved to hold a bow. Later, Nie Yue informed Lin Xichi that Xu Fang had quit the team after a big fight in the locker room, and had told Coach Liu he was no longer practicing. Lin Xichi quickly sought out Xu Fang, finding him sitting alone. She pleaded with him to explain his decision, reminding him of his dedication to archery.

However, Xu Fang coldly reiterated his fabricated story, claiming he joined archery only for his studies and that, as a national champion and fourth-year student, it was the right time to quit. He insisted that he was fine and she shouldn't worry about him. Lin Xichi, unable to believe his words, confided in a friend about Xu Fang's unusual behavior and ill temper. She also learned that he had gone alone into the mountains to clear his head.

Meanwhile, Lin Xichi received persistent, anonymous phone calls. Upon answering, the caller, Chen Ding, introduced herself and requested a meeting. Lin Xichi confronted her about the constant calls, to which Chen Ding admitted she called to gauge Lin Xichi's well-being and, more disturbingly, because she "wanted [Lin Xichi] to live an unfortunate life" so that she herself "could be happy." Lin Xichi was taken aback by her malice.

Chen Ding then explained that hatred had been like a protective "shell" for her, but she suddenly found it gone, leaving her feeling lost. She admitted that she had wanted to tell Lin Xichi how much she hated her, but upon seeing her, she "couldn't bring herself to hate [her]" anymore, which made her feel like an "ungrateful traitor" to her own mother.

This encounter opened Lin Xichi's eyes to her mother's past struggles in Rong City, realizing her mother had quietly endured immense pain alone for ten years. She later messaged Xu Fang, confiding that she now understood her parents' past deceptions were, in fact, "the biggest protection" for her and her brother, and that her insistence on honesty had been selfish. Concerned by Xu Fang's prolonged absence, Coach Liu learned from Lin Xichi that he was still in the mountains.

He tracked Xu Fang to a dilapidated house, finding it filled with target boards, each marked with countless arrows. Xu Fang, despondent, told Coach Liu he could "no longer play archery." Coach Liu challenged him to shoot a target, and despite Xu Fang's initial reluctance, he accurately hit it.

Coach Liu then revealed that Xu Fang's true problem was not a lack of skill, but that his "body and mind have been captured by fear," a condition known as target panic, which makes archers unable to hit the bullseye. He explained that while technique is learned early, psychological fortitude is paramount for archers. Coach Liu admitted he had noticed signs of this problem earlier but was surprised by its sudden and severe onset.

He offered Xu Fang the opportunity to go abroad after graduation for specialized treatment at a world-class rehabilitation-training center, emphasizing that target panic was a treatable psychological condition, not a terminal diagnosis. Xu Fang said he would consider the offer.

Episode 19 Recap

Lin Xichi’s spirits lifted instantly when she finally received a call from Xu Fang after days of silence. She eagerly agreed to meet him, hurrying to their rendezvous point, oblivious to the heavy heart Xu Fang carried. Upon their meeting, Xu Fang revealed his plan to train abroad for a period, causing Lin Xichi’s smile to falter and then freeze.

Distraught, she questioned why he would go abroad, asking if she was bothering him, and accusing him of avoiding her, just like her mother. She lashed out, claiming he was like her mother, always thinking only of himself and leaving whenever he pleased. She confessed she never imagined being left out of his future plans, especially when she needed him most, and defiantly declared that she did not need his pity and was prepared for a breakup.

Later, Xu Fang informed his coach of his decision not to go abroad. When asked if Lin Xichi was the reason, Xu Fang confirmed it, explaining that her mother’s departure had left her with deep-seated abandonment issues, making it hard for her to believe that those who leave might return. He feared that if he insisted on going, it would inevitably lead to their separation.

Despite his coach’s arguments that he should not sacrifice his own future and years of training, Xu Fang remained resolute in his decision, apologizing to his coach for the trouble. Meanwhile, Nie Yue spoke with Lin Xichi, who confirmed her relationship with Xu Fang was in serious jeopardy, likely heading towards a breakup because he had excluded her from his plans. Nie Yue urged her to consider the long-term future, not just the present.

He shared his own realization after Lin Xichi’s recent accident: her health and happiness were paramount, regardless of whether she was with him or where she was. He posited that true love was about fulfilling another’s dreams, not possessing them. Lin Xichi, however, stubbornly retorted that she wanted Xu Fang by her side, even if he were sick, refusing to be separated from him.

Alone afterward, she admitted to herself that Nie Yue’s words were correct, regretting her selfish desire for Xu Fang to stay despite his illness. Shortly after, the coach found Lin Xichi and took her to see Xu Fang’s target. He revealed that Xu Fang had been suffering from "target panic" for some time, a condition that effectively ends an archer's career, and that no one, including Lin Xichi, knew about it.

The coach explained that Xu Fang’s condition had led to his underperformance in a recent team event and a falling out with his teammates, attributing his secrecy to his pride as an athlete. He then disclosed that he had offered Xu Fang a chance for recovery training abroad, his only opportunity, but Xu Fang had refused, stating he didn't want to leave Lin Xichi alone.

Overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow, Lin Xichi broke down, blaming herself for her selfishness and for doubting Xu Fang when he needed her most. The coach comforted her, assuring her that she was the only one who could help Xu Fang recover. The next morning, Lin Xichi made an effort to dress up, choosing an A-line dress she hoped would make her look less "like a bucket," and went to Xu Fang's dorm.

She playfully pretended to have amnesia about their argument, jokingly calling him "Dad" and insisting he treat her to a meal. They ended up at a cafe where they discovered Jiang Zheng Xu working. Lin Xichi learned from Xu Fang that Jiang Zheng Xu had stopped practicing archery after Xu Fang had quit the team.

Lin Xichi approached Jiang Zheng Xu and urged him to talk, which he reluctantly agreed to, admitting he was only doing it because she had asked. She made it clear she didn't want him to see Xu Fang in a "weak state." Jiang Zheng Xu revealed his family’s dire financial situation: his father had fallen ill, and his business partner had absconded with all their money. Debt collectors had terrorized their home, forcing his mother to move.

As the sole man of the house, he realized he could no longer afford to pour money into archery. He had planned to make the National College Archery Invitational his final competition, a "perfect ending" to his career before graduation. He bitterly blamed Xu Fang for ruining his meticulously planned farewell, sarcastically calling him his "best brother."

Xu Fang suggested he could still train as an amateur, but Jiang Zheng Xu countered that he was not like Xu Fang; he had reached his "ceiling" and would never be an individual champion. He recalled always losing to Xu Fang in archery as a child but never feeling jealous, only happy for him.

Jiang Zheng Xu confided that his true dream wasn't to win titles but to participate in every major competition—the World Championships, the World Cup, even the Olympics. For him, merely participating would mean he was "awesome" and was "winning," a belief that had driven him. Since his own dream could no longer come true, he implored Xu Fang, whom he considered a natural-born athlete with unparalleled skill, to fulfill it for him.

Xu Fang solemnly promised to do so, accepting the heavy responsibility. Lin Xichi approached Xu Fang as he spoke with Jiang Zheng Xu, assuring him that she would always be by his side. They embraced, and she apologized for not knowing about his illness. Recalling his past advice about facing pain, she told him to go abroad to cure his target panic, promising to wait for his return.

Xu Fang then confirmed to his coach that he would leave after the graduation ceremony, planning to simultaneously recover and refine his skills. His coach expressed excitement for his return, anticipating his future dominance in the sport.

As Xu Fang prepared for his departure, packing his belongings at home, his father offered practical advice for his time abroad: to eat and rest well, to return if he missed them, to bring warm clothes, and to avoid staying up late on the computer. His father expressed pride in Xu Fang’s dedication to archery, a hobby that had initially just been meant for exercise. They shared a heartfelt hug before Xu Fang left for his graduation ceremony.

Back home alone, Lin Xichi discovered a stack of old letters on a table. She began to read them, realizing they were from her parents, Zheng Fang Fang and Chang Ge. In the letters, her mother, a surgeon, explained the demands of her work and her hope that her children would one day understand her choices, questioning if she and Chang Ge could have stayed together if their life priorities had been different.

Her father’s letters expressed longing for her mother’s return, particularly for Lin Xichi's sake, and questioned why she chose a career so far from her family, believing their problems could be solved if they were together. He pondered if leaving their innocent children was truly the best approach. Later, Lin Xichi's father returned home, surprised to find her reading the letters.

He explained that he had intended to show them to her when she was older, never meaning to hide them, and reiterated that despite the divorce, his children were always his priority. Lin Xichi, finally understanding his sacrifices, tearfully apologized for having blamed him for so many years for having to be both a father and a mother. She told him she had grown up.

Her father then mentioned Xu Fang’s upcoming departure, praising him as a good boy, though adding that no one was truly good enough for his daughter. Lin Xichi, with a faint smile, agreed.

Episode 20 Recap

Lin Xichi, having reconciled with her parents, now cherished her father's role in her upbringing more than ever. She discussed her post-graduation plans with him, sharing her intention to stay and work in Rong City, find a rental home, and eventually bring Xu Fang to live with her. She reassured her father that she was capable of taking care of herself and promised to call him whenever needed.

Reflecting on her family, Lin Xichi explained the unique reproductive process of seahorses, where the male is responsible for raising the offspring. She likened her parents to seahorses, acknowledging that both she and Lin Xi Geng had been lovingly raised by their father. She affirmed that she no longer harbored any resentment towards him and expressed a desire to become a parent who would always be present for her future children, mirroring her father's devotion.

At their graduation ceremony, Lin Xichi gathered with Nie Yue and other friends to capture the moment with photos. As they prepared for a group picture, Lin Xichi expressed her feelings about being the only one left to continue her studies alone in the final year. Just as the camera flashed, she quickly leaned in and playfully kissed Xu Fang on the cheek. Nie Yue, observing the scene, remarked that the resulting image looked like a wedding photo.

He Liyang, unable to attend the graduation ceremony due to a leg injury, received a thoughtful visit from Lin Xi Geng. He brought her a graduation robe, helped her wear it, and took commemorative photos. He Liyang, clearly pleased, smiled for the camera as they discussed her post-graduation dream of a year-long motorbike trip, now temporarily derailed by her injury. Lin Xi Geng assured her that her injury would heal, and they would eventually embark on the trip.

Later, Lin Xichi, Nie Yue, and their friends connected with He Liyang via video call from the bustling ceremony, ensuring she felt included and sending their well wishes for her swift recovery. Soon after, a doctor confirmed He Liyang's recovery was progressing well, informing her that she would soon be able to walk with a cast. Overjoyed, He Liyang and Lin Xi Geng eagerly anticipated fulfilling her aspiration of a motorbike journey. A farewell party was held for Xu Fang.

Jiang Zheng Xu, addressing Xu Fang as his best brother, raised a toast to his recovery abroad, jokingly advising him to avoid the temptation of expensive branded goods. Lin Xichi then presented Xu Fang with a custom-made necklace engraved with the character "Fang," playfully admitting it resembled a dog tag, though Xu Fang expressed his genuine liking for it.

The gathering was soon joined by Coach Jiang and Xu Fang's teammates, who, having learned of his injury, offered their unwavering support and shared valuable wisdom. Coach Jiang reminded Xu Fang that an exceptional athlete must conquer three critical challenges: fatigue and tiredness, failure, and sickness and injuries. He urged Xu Fang to remain resilient, drawing strength from the pride archery brought him and the thoughts of his friends and teammates, rather than allowing himself to be discouraged.

Xu Fang promised he would not let them down. In exchange for the necklace, Xu Fang handed Lin Xichi a blank book titled "Future plans with Fang Fang," instructing her to fill it with her aspirations from the day he departed, promising to fulfill each one upon his return. He confessed to having previously seen her personal notes, which explained how their "three-year plan" for milestones like holding hands and kissing had been unexpectedly achieved overnight.

While denying he intentionally pried, he admitted he saw his name written. Lin Xichi playfully teased him about "conquering" her. Xu Fang confessed his long-standing affection for her, though he couldn't pinpoint the exact moment it began, musing that their destinies might have intertwined the day his family moved next door to hers. They both agreed never to suggest breaking up again.

Before their final goodbye, Lin Xichi made Xu Fang promise not to fall for any other boys, which he readily agreed to. As Xu Fang prepared to depart, Lin Xichi meticulously checked his passport, ID, and phone, showering him with advice to take care of himself, eat on time, and avoid staying up late.

She urged him not to wander alone at night and to contact Jiang Zheng Xu if he returned late from work or felt down, though she stipulated any social outings should include other girls. Overcome with reluctance, Lin Xichi jokingly expressed regret for her magnanimity, wishing she could find kidnappers to bring him back. Xu Fang, in turn, reassured her he would return soon, take good care of himself, and secure a decent job to achieve self-sufficiency.

Lin Xichi, emotional, reflected on how Xu Fang had always been by her side through every hardship, declaring him the "most precious" person she had met. She vowed to become the "best version of herself" to honor their relationship. Their tearful farewell was punctuated by a final promise from Lin Xichi: Xu Fang must not fall for other girls, to which he readily agreed, sealing it with an embrace amidst the falling rain.

Time seemed to accelerate, and the day they first met felt like only yesterday. Yet, they now faced the reality of going their separate ways after graduation. Their shared youth had been marked by a tapestry of emotions including sadness, joy, arguments, and reconciliations. As Xu Fang departed for abroad, Jiang Zheng Xu observed that they had all been left behind. He shared his immediate post-graduation plan to focus on earning money to repay his family's debts.

Although Xu Fang had departed, the depth of Lin Xichi's affection only intensified. She resolved to face life positively and await his return, while also focusing on her immediate goals. Nie Yue supported her by providing a list of potential internship hospitals, although she humorously attributed her help to Xu Fang's request for Jiang Zheng Xu to look after Lin Xichi. Lin Xichi expressed her primary wish to secure a job quickly to alleviate any worries Xu Fang might have.

However, her internship search proved challenging; she visited numerous pet hospitals, including Sheng Chong Pet Hospital, Ai Yue Pet Shop, and An Bei Pet Shop, only to face repeated rejections due to lack of open positions or specific requirements. Later, she received an official call from Sheng Chong Pet Hospital confirming her unsuccessful interview. Meanwhile, Jiang Zheng Xu was plagued by persistent calls from individuals demanding repayment of his father's debts.

Lin Xichi, protective, intervened and encouraged him not to give up, asserting they could earn the money together. Across the distance, Xu Fang embarked on his rigorous training abroad under Coach Jiang, who, along with Liu Xiao Jiang, an intimate friend, instructed him to "drop the bow, forget the past, and start from the beginning" as a novice.

Xu Fang's initial days were consumed by intense physical training, running relentlessly to achieve complete body control, a dedication that earned him praise as a "thorough-bred horse." During a video call, Lin Xichi, trying to sound positive, initially claimed her job search was going well. However, in a private moment, she admitted to a friend her struggles, having been rejected by numerous hospitals.

Xu Fang, in turn, shared insights from his training, explaining that Coach Jiang emphasized archery relied on feeling rather than sight, citing the example of Lin Dong Xian, a world champion with extremely poor vision who could still hit targets. Xu Fang grasped that the true "target" was within one's heart, not merely visible to the eye, and his current training aimed at achieving mental and physical stability for each shot. Lin Xichi jokingly suggested he try shooting blindfolded, like Guo Jing's master Ke Zhen E.

Episode 21 Recap

Lin Xichi's father called her, encouraging her to return to Luo City for a well-paying internship at a pet hospital near home, hoping she would consider it more stable for a young woman. Lin Xichi, however, firmly expressed her desire to remain in Rong City after graduation. Her father then suggested she call her mother. Lin Xichi met Zheng Fang Fang.

Lin Xichi proactively informed her mother that Xu Fang had gone abroad for treatment and that she did not know when he would return, clarifying that waiting for him was her personal decision. Zheng Fang Fang questioned Xu Fang's future as a professional athlete given his target panic, expressing concern about how he would support Lin Xichi if he had to retire, and whether he possessed other skills to secure their happiness.

Lin Xichi tearfully confessed her past struggles with self-forgiveness, believing she was inadequate and even resorting to impersonating her mother's WeChat to talk to her father, feeling undeserving of happiness and love. She then explained that Xu Fang's unwavering support during her most vulnerable moments had made her realize her worthiness of love and happiness, enabling her to finally forgive herself.

Zheng Fang Fang acknowledged her past shortcomings as a mother but urged Lin Xichi to calm down and take responsibility for her future. Lin Xichi countered that she needed her mother's care earlier, not now, and emphatically told her mother not to interfere in her relationship with Xu Fang, stressing that just as Xu Fang had held her hand during her hardest times, she would never let go of his when he needed her.

After the meeting, Zheng Fang Fang called Lin Xichi's father, telling him that Lin Xichi had truly grown up. She expressed regret for missing their children's formative years and declared that she had genuinely let go of the past, thanking him for raising them so well and noting Lin Xichi's loyalty, unlike her own past selfishness.

Returning home distraught after the argument, Lin Xichi was comforted by her brother, Lin Xi Geng, who lightheartedly suggested that fighting could be a shortcut to communication. Shortly thereafter, Lin Xichi received an exciting phone call from Harmony Veterinary Hospital, informing her that she had passed her interview and was officially recruited as an intern.

Overjoyed, she shared the news with Lin Xi Geng, expressing her relief, as she had nearly given up hope and considered returning to work at a pet shop. Meanwhile, Lin Xi Geng took He Liyang, who was soon to be discharged, outside in her wheelchair to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight. He Liyang remarked on the beauty of the place and the sense of freedom it offered.

Lin Xi Geng reassured her that once her cast was removed, she would be able to go anywhere. He Liyang mused that freedom wasn't exclusively found in cycling, as she had realized that different activities could also offer unique perspectives. When Lin Xi Geng asked how she always appeared so peaceful, she replied that life is precious, and one should live authentically, embracing beauty and freedom.

Lin Xi Geng then admitted he could no longer live that way because he now cherished something important. He Liyang playfully asked him to stop flicking her head, pointing out his age and her embarrassment. Lin Xi Geng, while still calling her a "brat," acknowledged that he needed more time to truly become an adult. Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng visited a potential apartment for rent.

Lin Xichi was pleased with its password lock, spacious French windows, and good soundproofing. She confirmed that she could keep a dog there and decided to rent the place, even requesting to keep a large floor mirror. Soon after moving in, Lin Xichi called her father to assure him that she had fetched Fang Fang, who was settling in well. At Harmony Veterinary Hospital, Lin Xichi quickly settled into her new role.

She examined a porcupine, noting its discomfort due to the hot environment and recommending tests. A nurse named Yu Ni introduced herself as a colleague. Lin Xichi also compassionately attempted to weigh a trembling dog, reassuring it that despite being an intern, she would soon be qualified to treat animals, and wished it good health. A colleague showed Lin Xichi a tortoise that had been abandoned by its owner after treatment.

The tortoise, named "Little Watermelon" because of its fondness for the fruit, was now to be kept at the front desk as a mascot, but Lin Xichi expressed hope that a kind person would eventually adopt it. In the US, Xu Fang's coach confronted him for secretly practicing archery. Xu Fang explained that he wanted to test the effectiveness of his physical training but found that his target panic had worsened.

The coach reiterated that the training aimed to improve muscle control and help Xu Fang forget old habits, emphasizing that his complete trust was essential for the coach to guide his movements and change his focus. Later, Lin Xichi attempted a video call, but Xu Fang declined, citing fatigue. During a subsequent call, Xu Fang hypothetically asked Lin Xichi what would happen if his target panic remained uncured.

Lin Xichi reminded him of a famous athlete who also suffered from target panic but recovered after two years abroad and went on to win an Olympic championship, assuring him he was not an exception. She lovingly told him that even if the condition persisted, it was acceptable; he could return to China, and she would care for him as a pet while continuing her veterinary work.

She encouraged him to rest, eat well, and stop overthinking, showing him Fang Fang and assuring him that "brother will be fine, right? As healthy as you, as big an eater as you." Alone, Xu Fang continued to grapple with frustration over his condition, questioning his fear of the yellow target. Meanwhile, Lin Xichi diligently researched specialists to help Xu Fang, specifically Dr. Wang Xiao Yun, a sports medicine expert, after learning that Xu Fang's target panic was not improving.

She contacted Zheng Fang Fang's friend, Auntie Liu, to obtain Dr. Wang's address. However, despite braving heavy rain to find the location, Lin Xichi was informed by a resident that Dr. Wang had retired and moved away long ago, and her current whereabouts were unknown. The following day, at the hospital, Lin Xichi, despite feeling unwell and being only an intern, showed compassion towards a client whose cat was severely ill.

She agreed to examine it for dehydration and initiate tests before the clinic officially opened. Her colleague, Yu Ni, noticed Lin Xichi's pale complexion and lack of appetite. Yu Ni initially gossiped about Lin Xichi's boyfriend, questioning if he was imaginary since he never visited. Realizing Lin Xichi was genuinely sick, Yu Ni offered to request leave for her, but Lin Xichi insisted on continuing her work. Later, Lin Xichi was seen struggling alone on the street, visibly very ill.

Xin Zi Dan spotted her at Tianfu Great Wall Station and immediately rushed to her aid. At the hospital, Xin Zi Dan chastised Lin Xichi for her apparent self-neglect and for being alone, speculating that Xu Fang's absence was the reason. Xin Zi Dan offered to fetch her medicine and prepare porridge, but Lin Xichi declined, asserting she was well enough for Xin Zi Dan to leave.

Xin Zi Dan expressed continued worry about Lin Xichi being alone without Xu Fang. Upon Lin Xichi's return home, she struggled to open the door. Lin Xi Geng, already inside, let her in. He discovered she had a high fever of 39. 2 degrees Celsius and scolded her for becoming so ill. He unceremoniously placed a foot towel on her forehead, brushing aside her protests.

After reviewing her test results, Lin Xi Geng noted her high white blood cell count, indicating inflammation. He then handed her phone, which was ringing, but she appeared unable to answer.

Episode 22 Recap

Lin Xichi adjusted her demeanor before answering Xu Fang's video call, trying to hide her illness. However, the severe nasal congestion in her voice and the visible presence of Lin Xi Geng, who was attending to her, immediately revealed to Xu Fang that she was unwell. Despite Lin Xichi's insistence that she was fine and had merely gotten caught in the rain, Xu Fang, keenly aware of her attempts to conceal things, reminded her not to keep secrets from him.

Lin Xi Geng assured Xu Fang that he would take good care of his sister, and Xu Fang also shared his own struggles with the repetitive diet of salads, hamburgers, spaghetti, and barbecue abroad. Meanwhile, Nie Yue was tired of her parents' constant attempts to arrange her life, including a suitable position offered by Uncle Wang. She revealed to them her plan to start her own business by taking over a shop, asking for their financial support.

Her father, suspecting Jiang Zheng Xu's influence, expressed disapproval, citing Nie Yue's neglected studies and lack of career focus since she started dating him. Nie Yue vehemently denied Jiang Zheng Xu's involvement, but her father soon called Jiang Zheng Xu directly, questioning why he had asked Nie Yue's father for money. Jiang Zheng Xu, his pride wounded, asserted that he could earn his own money and pay off his debts, rejecting any help.

Nie Yue apologized for not discussing it with him, admitting she feared his parents would look down on him. She then unveiled her detailed plan: to open an archery club combined with a café. She believed Jiang Zheng Xu, with his café experience and archery skills, could manage it, potentially even offering classes for kids and inviting friends Yao Wang and Yu Tong to help.

She envisioned herself as the lady boss and cashier, allowing Jiang Zheng Xu to pursue archery while earning money to clear their debts. Though impressed, Jiang Zheng Xu reiterated his desire to provide a better life for her with his own earnings, promising to pay off the debt and marry her within three years. Xu Fang’s thoughtful words about her mother's happiness resonated with Lin Xichi.

Instead of meeting at a café, she decided to visit Zheng Fang Fang at her home to eat her favorite spicy chicken, something she hadn't had in a long time. Upon arrival, Zheng Fang Fang welcomed her warmly. Chen Ding, however, remained hostile, telling her mother to mind her own daughter and leave her alone. Lin Xichi, having previously encountered Chen Ding, tried to calm the situation, even playfully recounting exaggerated stories of their past interactions to ease the tension.

Lin Xichi then gifted Chen Ding "Little Watermelon," a tortoise she had been looking after, suggesting that the pet was difficult to handle and required Chen Ding's unique care. Despite Chen Ding's initial coldness, Lin Xichi believed they could bond over the tortoise. As they ate the meal, filled with Lin Xichi’s favorite dishes, Lin Xichi couldn’t help but shed tears, covering her emotions by blaming the spicy chili.

The meal marked a significant step towards reconciliation, with Lin Xi Geng also present, making it a family gathering. Back at the hospital, Lin Xichi was reviewing the dismal PCR test results for a kitten diagnosed with feline distemper, anxious about its condition. Soon after, a distraught woman caused a scene in the hospital lobby, accusing the hospital of negligence and blaming Lin Xichi for her cat's death.

The owner, who admitted she knew Lin Xichi was an intern and had ignored instructions not to feed the cat, was now furious that her pet had died despite the money she spent. Lin Xichi, though saddened by the cat’s passing, silently endured the accusations. Chief Li intervened, calming the owner and explaining the severe, rapid progression of viral feline distemper, especially in young animals.

He affirmed that Lin Xichi, despite being an intern, was qualified to assist with treatments, and her diagnosis and handling of the case were appropriate. Lin Xichi confessed her feelings of inadequacy, but Chief Li reassured her by sharing his own past struggles as an intern and reminding her of the joy and responsibility of being a veterinarian. He urged her to be kind and determined, assuring her that her efforts were crucial for the animals who depended on her.

Later, during a video call, Xu Fang noted Lin Xichi's lingering sadness about the cat, despite her efforts to lighten the mood by recounting how she taught foreign teammates Chinese tongue twisters. Lin Xichi admitted that discussing the incident had brought back her grief. Xu Fang, ever protective, suggested she quit and offered to confront the cat owner himself, but Lin Xichi refused, asserting her love for her job and her growing resilience, stating that people would eventually be reasonable.

She observed that she had grown significantly more independent in his absence, joking that without him, her intelligence had soared since she no longer needed to rely on him. Xu Fang, in turn, found motivation in her progress, resolving to continue his own treatment and training. Yet, as their calls ended, the distance between them left both feeling the pangs of loneliness and worry.

A mishap involving Little Watermelon, who had fallen from a window, provided Lin Xichi another opportunity to connect with Chen Ding and mediate between Chen Ding and Zheng Fang Fang. When Chen Ding couldn’t find her tortoise, she immediately suspected Zheng Fang Fang, who admitted opening the window for ventilation.

Lin Xichi quickly provided a diagnosis, assuring them that Little Watermelon would be fine due to its shell, and even suggested installing a window screen for safety and ventilation, a solution that benefited both Chen Ding and her pet. Lin Xichi also offered Chen Ding empathetic advice on her thesis and life, telling her to let go of the past and not fear the future, and encouraged her to confide in Little Watermelon, asserting that the tortoise would understand.

This act of kindness and understanding melted Chen Ding's previous hostility. She not only thanked Lin Xichi for the tortoise but also warmly invited Lin Xichi and Lin Xi Geng to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at her home, a testament to her changed attitude. Meanwhile, Xu Fang, deeply disturbed by Lin Xichi's casual mention of a robbery near her workplace, was consumed by worry for her safety, even contemplating abandoning his treatment and returning home.

He confided in Jiang Zheng Xu, expressing his feelings of inadequacy as a boyfriend unable to protect her from afar. Jiang Zheng Xu, now focused on his goal of earning money to pay off debts and establish an archery club with Nie Yue, offered steadfast support. He assured Xu Fang that he would handle everything regarding Lin Xichi's safety, instructing him to focus on his recovery.

True to his word, Jiang Zheng Xu, along with members of the archery team, began escorting Lin Xichi home from work. Lin Xichi recognized Xu Fang’s concern as the reason for their presence, and the team promised to take turns escorting her daily, reinforcing the bond of friendship and mutual support among them.

Episode 23 Recap

After his physical rehabilitation, Xu Fang formally resumed his archery training. His coach reminded him to forget past results and start anew, focusing on achieving a perfectly accurate shooting motion rather than the target's bullseye or gold ring. Xu Fang focused, found the right feeling, and executed a perfect release. Meanwhile, at the archery range, Jiang Zheng Xu took the opportunity to teach Nie Yue how to shoot.

He confidently claimed it was easy, but Nie Yue struggled to lift the bow. Jiang Zheng Xu helped her, guiding her aim. With his assistance, Nie Yue successfully hit a ten-point shot, exclaiming her own genius. Later, Jiang Zheng Xu proposed to Nie Yue. He asked if she would mind him marrying into her family, clarifying that it would be an engagement for now until he achieved all his goals, and he would properly marry her afterward.

Nie Yue readily agreed, and Jiang Zheng Xu, visibly flustered, clumsily placed the ring on her finger. At home, Lin Xichi spoke to her dog, Fang Fang, about her brother, Xu Fang, coming back. She told Fang Fang that the "male swan" would return next week, confirming it was Xu Fang. Over a video call, she excitedly got Fang Fang to "dance" for Xu Fang, celebrating his impending return.

A few days later, Lin Xichi arrived home and was astonished to find Xu Fang waiting for her downstairs. She initially thought she was hallucinating until he smiled, confirming his long-awaited return. Overjoyed, she bounced around, speechless, repeatedly gesturing for him to hug her. That evening, with Xu Fang freshly bathed, Lin Xichi felt a mix of shyness and anticipation about sharing a bed. She nervously lay down, feigning sleep with eyes closed and limbs stiff.

To her surprise, Xu Fang chose to sleep on the floor. Feeling agitated by this unexpected turn, Lin Xichi eventually rolled off the bed and settled beside him. The next morning, Xu Fang woke up and began tidying the messy table, where he discovered Lin Xichi's open diary.

He read entries detailing her loneliness and longing, including a note from June 20th about his departure, an entry from July 31st about working at the hospital and no one believing she had a boyfriend, and one from September 1st expressing her continued thoughts of him despite being alone. Later that day, Xu Fang visited Coach Liu at the archery range. The coach helped him refine his shooting posture, reminding him to master the basics before deviating.

Coach Liu then introduced Xu Fang, the university's famous athlete and national champion, to a new group of team members, who were eager for him to demonstrate his skills. Xu Fang politely declined, explaining he was tired from his rehabilitation training. Coach Liu encouraged Xu Fang, emphasizing that his upcoming competition would be a true test against himself. After his training, Xu Fang went to pick up Lin Xichi from the hospital.

He playfully introduced himself to her colleagues as her "legendary boyfriend," much to their delight. As they walked home, Lin Xichi spotted their friends at a bustling street food stall near the university. They joined Nie Yue, Jiang Zheng Xu, and Xin Zi Dan at a table.

Nie Yue clarified that she and Jiang Zheng Xu were only engaged, not yet married, and explained that they hadn't invited Lin Xichi to the engagement because Xu Fang wasn't there, and they didn't want her to feel sad or jealous. Xu Fang then revealed that the gathering was his idea, fulfilling Lin Xichi's long-held wish to eat with everyone at the university's street food stalls.

During the meal, the conversation turned to Lin Xichi's long wait for Xu Fang and the potential for long-distance separation if he were to become a professional athlete, like during her past emergencies when he couldn't be there. The friends then raised a toast to Xu Fang. Later, Xu Fang fulfilled another of Lin Xichi's wishes by booking an entire cinema hall for them. They joked and enjoyed the private setting.

As they walked near the Civil Affairs Bureau, Lin Xichi, noting Jiang Zheng Xu and Nie Yue's engagement, asked Xu Fang when he planned to marry her. He deflected, playfully suggesting she was too young and beautiful with a bright future. Lin Xichi became upset, reminding him they had known each other their entire lives, dated for years, and she had waited over a year for him. She accused him of making it sound like "she" was proposing.

Xu Fang quickly apologized and appeased her, promising to prove himself. Lin Xichi, though still a little miffed, seemed to soften, agreeing to "consider it" based on his future actions. To further cheer her up, Xu Fang offered to cook her dinner, a rare treat she couldn't refuse. The happy reunion, however, was brief. Xu Fang informed Lin Xichi that Coach Liu had secured him a spot in the upcoming National Archery Championships in Beijing.

This competition offered him a chance to join the national team if he performed well. Lin Xichi asked if he truly had to go, and Xu Fang explained it was his final opportunity to gauge the effectiveness of his past year's training. At dawn, Xu Fang quietly kissed the still-sleeping Lin Xichi goodbye. He left a message for Fang Fang to take care of his sister and slipped out.

Lin Xichi, hearing the door close, quickly rose and rushed to the airport, reflecting on how she had grown and felt a new strength within her. She resolved to become her best self to match Xu Fang. Taking the fastest flight to Beijing, she arrived at the National Archery Championships venue.

Soon after, Lin Xi Geng and He Liyang arrived, explaining that Nie Yue insisted they come, as it would be difficult to see Xu Fang compete if he joined the national team. Jiang Zheng Xu and Nie Yue also arrived, with Jiang Zheng Xu complaining about their rush to the airport. As everyone gathered, the announcer welcomed the crowd to the National Archery Championships, introducing the nation's top archers as they prepared for the first qualifying round.

Episode 24 (Ending) Recap

After the qualifying round of the National Archery Championships, Xu Fang stayed late to practice. His performance that day had been subpar, barely securing his qualification for the finals. Lin Xichi arrived, having gone to great lengths to bring their dog, Fang Fang, to cheer him on. As Xu Fang rested his head on Lin Xichi's lap, he found a sense of peace while listening to her talk about their future.

Lin Xichi spoke of his potential path to the national team, the World Championships, and even the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which would mean four years of waiting for her. Though she playfully complained about the long wait, she concluded that four years was a short period in a hundred-year lifespan. She also humorously demanded that he be by her side during her pregnancy, childbirth, and confinement, serving her just as she imagined he served his own father.

Her words brought him comfort, rekindling his confidence. The following day, the individual elimination tournament began, and Xu Fang’s form returned, attracting many spectators with his steady performance. In what seemed like a destined rematch, Xu Fang once again faced Ding Yi. However, the weather turned, with strong winds quickly followed by heavy rain, conditions that would severely impact their scores. Despite the adverse weather, Xu Fang concluded the match by hitting a telescoping shot.

When the referee announced Xu Fang as the champion of the National Archery Championships, widespread cheers erupted. However, Xu Fang’s gaze was fixed solely on Lin Xichi, who had dropped her umbrella in her excitement. He had succeeded, a silent understanding passing between them that spoke volumes. Later, at a celebratory dinner for Xu Fang's victory, Xu Fang himself was absent, but this did not dampen the spirits of his friends.

As they toasted to Xu Fang's win and to Lin Xichi as the "future wife of the champion," the subtle affection between Lin Xi Geng and He Liyang was evident. Someone commented on Lin Xi Geng's good performance over the past year, and He Liyang admitted she wouldn't know what to do without him.

When asked why she hadn't pursued studying abroad with her high GPA, she replied that she was "waiting for someone to grow up," clearly referring to Lin Xi Geng. Lin Xichi, then gave a heartfelt speech, thanking everyone for their support. She reflected on their shared journey of laughter, tears, hopes, and disappointments, emphasizing that they had never forgotten their original aspirations.

She likened life to archery, where once an arrow is shot, it cannot be recalled, urging everyone to strive forward and become their best selves to meet the best people in the world. During the meal, Xu Fang called, and everyone insisted Lin Xichi put him on speaker. Their sweet exchange, filled with expressions of longing, amused everyone. Xu Fang mentioned that he was looking forward to introducing her to someone important in his hometown in a few days.

He instructed her to dress formally and bring the black box he had given her previously, which she hadn't been able to open. Lin Xichi, surprised that the box was not for her but for this mysterious meeting, was left confused by his cryptic instructions. Arriving in his hometown, Lin Xichi saw Xu Fang on a bicycle.

A sense of nostalgia washed over her, making their childhood antics feel like they had just happened yesterday, as if they had grown up overnight. Xu Fang led her to a familiar tall building, a place they hadn't visited in a long time. He asked if she wanted to go up, despite the presence of a security guard.

Once on the rooftop, Xu Fang observed that they had come full circle, ending up back at this significant place, now as a couple. He told her that this day might be the most special one for her. On the rooftop, Xu Fang’s parents and their friends were waiting. Xu Fang asked Lin Xichi to open the black box and allowed her to ask for help with the password.

After several incorrect guesses from their friends, Lin Xi Geng correctly deduced that the password was 0710, based on the numerical pronunciation of Lin Xichi's name: Lin (0), Xi (7), Chi (10). Lin Xichi was impressed that her brother remembered such a detail about her. Inside the box was a ring that was clearly not her size. Xu Fang explained, "It's not for you. It's for myself."

He then knelt before her, holding another ring, and formally proposed, saying, "Lin Xichi, adopt me." With their parents and friends cheering them on, they embraced and shared a shy kiss, promising a lifetime together. Years later, in 2020, a voiceover reflected that true and beautiful relationships often begin in innocence, and that it is a great fortune to remain with the most important person from one's youth, like holding hands with one's childhood self, never letting go.

By this time, Lin Xichi was pregnant, and she and Xu Fang were watching their dog, Fang Fang, play freely on the grass. Lin Xichi, overwhelmed by her happiness, wondered if their lives were fictitious, like characters in a drama, fearing that Xu Fang might stop loving her once the "drama" ended. Xu Fang reassured her that their existence and their love were real, and that after all the challenges they had overcome, she deserved this happiness.

He affirmed his love for her, and she, in turn, asked him to continue loving her even after the "drama" concluded. He promised he would. The story concluded with the hopeful message that one can only deserve the best in life by becoming the best version of themselves, wishing everyone with love in their hearts the strength to achieve this.
