After escaping their pursuers, Gu Rong and Su Jingjing engage in a playful argument about who was to blame for the delay. Su Jingjing urges a quick return, worried about Ai Mi and Han Ran. Meanwhile, at Su Jingjing’s home, Miss Bai arrives to find Ai Mi and Han Ran waiting anxiously. Concerned by the long absence, Han Ran considers calling the police, but Miss Bai stops him just as Gu Rong and Su Jingjing return.
Miss Bai immediately confronts Su Jingjing for failing to protect Gu Rong, but Han Ran shields her, asserting she is an assistant, not a nanny. Before Miss Bai can reveal that Su Jingjing is a bodyguard, Gu Rong interrupts. He fabricates a story about a fired employee begging for his job back, claiming he asked Su Jingjing to lead him away to avoid the hassle.
Though bewildered, Su Jingjing corroborates his story, and Gu Rong insists she bears no responsibility for the day's events. Later, Anrou tries to discuss company business with Gu Rong, but he reaffirms his decision to step away, encouraging her to take charge with confidence. Anrou questions why Su Jingjing’s role as a bodyguard is being kept from Han Ran.
Gu Rong explains it’s a promise he made to Su Jingjing and a private matter between them, leading Anrou to notice Su Jingjing's special significance to him. Anrou then suggests that Gu Rong travel to evade Chief He, who now knows his general location. Gu Rong agrees to consider it. Han Ran invites Su Jingjing on a short trip for his final book signing, and she happily accepts.
That evening, Su Jingjing tries to win Gu Rong’s approval for her leave by bringing him fruit and even feeding him peeled grapes. Seeing through her act, Gu Rong correctly guesses she wants to go on the trip with Han Ran. He initially denies her request but then reveals he will also be joining them to clear his head. During the car ride, Gu Rong, sitting in the back, watches over a sleeping Su Jingjing in the passenger seat.
When her head slumps, he gently supports it with his hand, a faint smile on his face. Upon arriving at the hotel, they discover no room was booked for Gu Rong and none are available. This leads to a tense standoff with Han Ran over the single bed in his room. That night, after an argument where Gu Rong refuses to sleep on the bed Han Ran has already used, he ends up on the sofa.
While trying to iron Han Ran’s custom-designed suit for the signing event, Su Jingjing accidentally scorches it. Panicked, she knows the designer piece is irreplaceable. Gu Rong comes to her rescue, giving her the address of a tailor who can fix it. Unable to sleep on the sofa, Gu Rong later goes looking for Su Jingjing when she doesn't answer her phone. He finds her asleep at the tailor shop, gently places his jacket over her, and sits beside her.
When Su Jingjing stirs, she sees him asleep and attempts to put his jacket back on him. He awakens at her touch, and their eyes meet. Gu Rong accompanies Su Jingjing to Lake Island, only to discover she plans to set up a surprise confession for Han Ran. Meanwhile, Xie Te calls to report that Dr. Zhang believes a cure for Gu Rong's condition has likely been found and suggests bringing Su Jingjing to meet him.
Gu Rong, disapproving of Su Jingjing's confession plan, actively sabotages her efforts. He insists it's an inauspicious day, deliberately starts a fight over a can of soda that results in her photos getting wet, and generally disrupts her preparations.
