Rattan Episode 13 Recap
> Rattan Recap
After Shen Yindeng fails to return, Yangbo opens the letter she left for him. In it, she explains that she has been killed but that a glimmer of hope for her survival might lie with Qin Fang. She also thanks Yangbo for the ordinary life they shared and expresses her genuine but unfulfilled desire to have had his child, alluding to a secret that prevented it. Overcome with grief, Yangbo cries out her name.
Meanwhile, Wang Qiankun approaches Si Teng, acknowledging the Xuan Sect's mistake in siding with Chisan. Now that Chisan has been dealt with, he asks Si Teng to remove the Rattan Kill from the Xuan Sect members. Si Teng questions if his master, Qiu Shan, sent him and demands to know where her body was buried after Qiu Shan and his allies killed her in 1946. Unable to answer, Wang Qiankun is told to ask his master.
Si Teng then promises to uphold her end of their bargain and remove the affliction, provided the Xuan Sect no longer causes her trouble. Trusting her word, Wang Qiankun pledges that the Xuan Sect will not oppose her again. Immediately after Wang Qiankun's departure, Si Teng suffers a severe reaction to Chisan's poison. Her current power is insufficient to counteract the venom, and she pushes Qin Fang away, wanting to endure the pain alone.
She is still hurt by Qin Fang's unsettled expression when he first heard she consumed her own kind. As she struggles with the poison's effects, Si Teng loses control, violently pushing Qin Fang against a wall and kissing his bleeding mouth. The act triggers a vivid flashback in Qin Fang's mind, revealing fragments of her painful past. The vision shows Si Teng's harsh upbringing under Qiu Shan, who forced her to train relentlessly and berated her as a "monster."
Later, she finds a mentor in Shao Yankuan, who introduces her to literature and poetry. She quickly learns to read and develops her own strong-willed interpretations, believing that power, not justice, is what truly matters. Impressed by her intellect, Shao Yankuan invites her to the provincial capital of Shenhai to pursue a higher education and experience a modern life of movies and parties, an offer she happily accepts.
The vision then jumps to a fierce confrontation where Qiu Shan accuses her of betrayal for using the Rattan Kill on his disciples. In the ensuing battle, Si Teng uses innocent townspeople as a shield, forcing Qiu Shan to stand down. Once he withdraws, however, she promptly saves the people she endangered. After escaping, a wandering and lonely Si Teng observes families returning home, filling her with a bitter longing for a place of her own.
Si Teng collapses into unconsciousness, and Qin Fang gently lays her on the bed. He reflects that despite her harsh exterior, he knows she is not malevolent and is different from Yi like Chisan. Seeing the sorrow in her past, he understands her actions and wishes he could have been the one to meet her back then, so he could have protected her from such suffering. Elsewhere, the Xuan Sect members discuss Yangbo's strange behavior.
Wang Qiankun recounts how Yangbo, whose wife is missing and presumed dead, calmly claimed she was "fine." They grow suspicious, believing he is either unstable or under a spell. The next morning, a recovered Si Teng awakens to Qin Fang caring for her. He tells her he isn't afraid of her, as he understands her actions were not malicious.
He deduces she only absorbed Chisan's power to save Wafang and the villagers from the poison mushrooms and that her true goal is to use the Xuan Sect to find her "sister" and uncover the truth of her past. Soon after, Yan Furui arrives with a discharged Wafang to offer their profuse, if awkward, thanks. They are followed by the other Xuan Sect members, who also express their gratitude.
Si Teng honors her promise, and they exclaim in relief as the Rattan Kill vanishes. Before leaving, Wang Qiankun warns Qin Fang about Yangbo's unnerving behavior and his early departure that morning, urging him to be cautious. New antagonists, Zhou Wandong and Jia Guizhi, are also closing in on Qin Fang. In a flashback, Zhou Wandong's attempt to steal the Nine-Eyed Heavenly Pearl from Jia Guizhi is thwarted when he discovers the corpse of Zhao Jianglong.
Unfazed by his threats, Jia Guizhi demonstrates her power and offers him the pearl in exchange for a task: to find Qin Fang and transport both him and Zhao's body to a specific location. To locate their target, they visit the home of his business partner, Shan Zhigang, who is already distressed by a disturbing vision of the drowned Chen Wan.
Posing as utility workers, they subdue Shan Zhigang, tie him up, and use his phone to pinpoint Qin Fang's whereabouts. Jia Guizhi instructs Zhou Wandong not to kill Shan Zhigang, but merely to ensure he cannot contact anyone for a few days. Finally arriving in Yunxi Village, the pair begin their search, noting the strange demeanor of the local villagers.
