Since waking up with amnesia, Rong Le had placed her utmost trust in her brother, Rong Qi, making his betrayal all the more painful. She found herself torn between hatred and the desire to still believe in him. Long Yue tried to console her, suggesting that Rong Qi might have had his own complex reasons and that the intricate web of interests was rooted in the unfathomable heart of the Emperor, a depth beyond their understanding.
Long Yue also revealed that five years ago, she had used a kite to send letters to Fu Chou when he was just a sergeant. This, along with Fu Chou's rapid rise to General, confirmed Rong Le's suspicions that her brother and Western Qi were deeply involved in these complex disputes. Rong Le admitted that she had been prepared to sacrifice everything for Western Qi, even love, upon her arrival in Northern Lin.
However, the thought of being manipulated by her closest kin and forced into marriage with a stranger was unbearable. Long Yue advised her to follow her heart, suggesting she forget their restrictive identities and flee with Prince Li, Wu You, if she truly trusted him. Rong Le was tempted but confessed her uncertainty about what Wu You truly wanted. Just then, a maid announced Prince Li's arrival.
Long Yue handed "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" to Rong Le, leaving her to make her own choice. Wu You entered, reminding Rong Le of their agreement to meet, assuring her he would never break a promise. Overwhelmed, Rong Le burst into tears and rushed into his arms. Later, at Prince Li's Manor, she asked if he had ever been betrayed by someone he trusted, admitting she had lost her faith.
Wu You replied that only she could ever deceive him, and while he had hidden things from her, it was only to ensure her safety. He recounted how, after his mother's death, he believed there would be no more light in the world until he met her. Wu You reassured Rong Le that all suffering passes, and if her faith had betrayed her, it was unworthy. He urged her to believe in him, promising that his future would be hers.
He shared his dream of a world without war, a vision inspired by his late teacher's "people-based transformation" policy. His father had promised him the freedom to choose his own wife if he could find "The Book of Mountains and Rivers." He then asked Rong Le to marry him so they could build a better world together. Listening to him, Rong Le found a glimmer of hope.
In her room, Rong Qi sat alone, drinking, the wine unable to dull the sorrow in his heart. That night, Rong Le placed "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" by Wu You's pillow as he slept, entrusting her future to him. After she lay back down, Wu You secretly opened his eyes. The next morning, Wu You instructed Leng Yan to procure the finest things for a grand wedding, surprising Leng Yan with his sudden interest in formalities.
Meanwhile, as Long Yue prepared to leave the Moon Embrace Teahouse, she gave Chen Yu a zither score from Rong Le, encouraging her to live freely. Just then, Xiao Sha arrived with guards, demanding the princess's whereabouts. When Long Yue stated the princess had left, Xiao Sha ordered the teahouse sealed and everyone inside arrested.
Wu Yu found Wu You in high spirits at Prince Li's Manor and, upon learning of the marriage plans, boasted that his method of using "a little trick" works on any woman. Wu You mused that he hadn't expected Rong Le to be so sentimental.
Wu Yu then spotted "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" and deduced that Rong Le had not only given it to Wu You but was also the intruder at Qin Yong's manor during the lantern festival. He accused Wu You of orchestrating the entire festival incident to test her. Rong Le, who had been listening outside, entered, her hopes shattered.
When Wu You admitted it was all part of his plan, she was heartbroken, feeling betrayed by the two men she had trusted most. In her turmoil, she rushed out into the rain. Overwhelmed by memories of Rong Qi's betrayal and Wu You's deception, which now tainted his vows from the night before, Rong Le collapsed in the street.
Back at the Princess Manor, Xiao Sha questioned Ling Yue about the princess's activities before locking her in her room and replacing the household guards with the Emperor's men. Rong Le awoke in an unfamiliar room to find Fu Chou, who informed her that Wu You was frantically searching for her and that the Moon Embrace Teahouse had been sealed, its occupants arrested.
When Rong Le threatened him not to harm her friends, Fu Chou calmly revealed they were never "her people," leaving her stunned by the realization she had been alone all along. He urged her to take her medicine, insisting her safest option was to remain there. While Wu You scoured the city, Fu Chou arrived at Prince Li's Manor to personally deliver his own wedding invitation, ironically thanking Wu You for making his happiness possible and leaving him bewildered.
Moments later, Leng Yan arrived with news that Rong Le was at the General's Manor. Rong Le attempted to leave, but upon learning that Wu You had surrounded the manor with his men, she agreed to Fu Chou's plan and hid. Fu Chou confronted Wu You, who declared he had come to retrieve his wife. Wu You ordered his men to search the residence, but Fu Chou objected, citing the law.
The standoff escalated as Wu You accused him of illicitly meeting with a royal's wife. Just as tensions peaked, Rong Le emerged. She coldly accused Wu You of bullying Western Qi and announced that in two days, she would be marrying Fu Chou. Fu Chou played along, explaining he had invited her to inspect the "Tranquil Garden," which he had decorated in Western Qi style for their wedding.
He then offered to show Wu You around the manor, sarcastically inviting him to search for his "wife" during the tour. As they proceeded, attendants brought out Rong Le's wedding dress and accessories for her.
