Please Love Me Episode 4 Recap
> Please Love Me Recap
Pei Youyou and Yi Han continued to clash in their shared living space, meticulously drawing "boundary lines" to divide areas. Yi Han laid down strict rules, preventing Pei Youyou from entering his private room, the living room, kitchen, or bathroom without permission, and adamantly warning her not to touch his action figures. Pei Youyou agreed to respect his belongings but insisted on maintaining hygiene in shared areas, suggesting they live like strangers, ideally not seeing each other at all.
They even divided the communal refrigerator shelves, with Yi Han claiming the top four and Pei Youyou the bottom two. Observing Yi Han's many possessions, Pei Youyou comically offered to sell him a refrigerator shelf. When discussing the stove, Yi Han set a cooking time limit from noon to 10 PM, telling Pei Youyou she would "stay hungry" if she wanted a midnight snack after that. The next day, Kan Di had arranged their engagement ceremony by the sea.
However, Yi Han, still upset from a previous argument where Kan Di called him a "tool," refused to attend, stating he was "nothing" to her anyway. Pei Youyou, left to manage the situation alone, felt embarrassed and confused about what to tell the many guests. Kan Di, seeing no other option, accessed Yi Han's Weibo account and posted a message from him declaring that he and Pei Youyou had "eloped!"
After the chaotic ceremony, Pei Youyou changed out of her dress. While she was getting ready, Lin Tian'nuo, a childhood friend she hadn't seen in years, approached her and offered her a milk candy, a treat he used to give her as a child. Lin Tian'nuo explained that he had only found her after seeing the news about her and Yi Han.
Pei Youyou recounted how she lost contact with him after her father remarried; her stepmother disliked their old house's location and convinced her father to sell it and move. Lin Tian'nuo remembered Pei Youyou's childhood passion for art and wondered why she hadn't pursued it. Pei Youyou sadly revealed she was accepted into art school but her stepmother refused to pay tuition, leading her to leave home in anger and never return.
Faced with financial pressure, she eventually became a nail artist, using her artistic foundation. Lin Tian'nuo sensed that her relationship with Yi Han wasn't genuine, but Pei Youyou insisted it was real, claiming Yi Han was just childish but cared for her deep down. As Lin Tian'nuo dropped her off at home, he quietly kept the star-folded candy wrapper she had just eaten, placing it in a childhood tin box.
Upon returning home, Pei Youyou confronted Yi Han, who was casually watching TV, for his childish behavior at the engagement. She angrily demanded "compensation for moral damages," specifically half a year of her debt to him. As they argued, the doorbell rang. Pei Youyou opened the door to a young man who immediately hugged her, exclaiming, "Sister! I've finally found you!"
Yi Han tried to pull him away, suspicious of this sudden appearance, but the young man introduced himself as Lu Ming, Pei Youyou's biological half-brother. He presented a picture of their mother as proof. Pei Youyou was stunned, realizing it was the same picture her mother had always kept. Lu Ming explained their mother had moved to Prague in 1998, married his father, and had him. He had known nothing of her life in China.
He then delivered the devastating news that their parents had died in a car accident six months prior, on their 20th wedding anniversary. He had discovered Pei Youyou while going through their mother's belongings. Lu Ming added that he had tracked Pei Youyou down using an address on the photo, then by contacting the old house's previous owner (Wang Auntie), and finally by searching for Yi Han online, who was very popular in China.
Lu Ming, still a student, planned to finish his studies in Prague after the summer but hoped to live with Pei Youyou permanently once he graduated. With no money, he initially asked if he could stay at Pei Youyou's old house, but Yi Han quickly pointed out it was uninhabitable, lacking furniture and still undergoing ownership transfer.
Despite Yi Han's strong objections to having "a second stranger" in his house, Pei Youyou insisted that kicking Lu Ming out would make him suspicious of their fake relationship, leading to more complications. Yi Han reluctantly offered to pay for a hotel, but Pei Youyou explained the high cost for two months.
Lu Ming, speaking a foreign language on the phone, expressed his happiness at finding his sister, noting her resemblance to their mother and the strong family bond he felt. Pei Youyou asked Yi Han to translate Lu Ming's words, and after hearing them, she decided to let Lu Ming stay with them for a month.
Yi Han, seeing her determination, negotiated a monthly rent of 6,000 yuan from her, which Pei Youyou eventually agreed to, though she later realized she had been tricked. Lu Ming also found several unopened letters addressed to Pei Youyou among their mother's belongings, but Pei Youyou hesitated to read them. Later, while eating dinner, Lu Ming continued to call Yi Han "Brother-in-Law," much to Yi Han's annoyance, who was on a diet for a film.
Yi Han tried to enforce a strict "no talking during meals or sleep" rule, but Lu Ming, trying to learn Chinese customs, mistakenly believed that slurping noodles was a sign of respect in Asia. Yi Han corrected him, explaining Chinese etiquette was different. That night, Lu Ming saw Yi Han looking through the trash and, concerned, asked Pei Youyou if Yi Han had strange behaviors.
Pei Youyou quickly covered for him, claiming Yi Han was helping her look for a lost earring. Moments later, Yi Han found his "Remaining Life" script, which his assistant Haozi had brought earlier and Pei Youyou had tidied away. He immediately scolded Pei Youyou for touching his things. Lu Ming, hearing the commotion, asked if they were fighting, but Pei Youyou again covered, saying Yi Han was just intensely rehearsing his script.
To maintain the pretense of their relationship for Lu Ming, Pei Youyou insisted on sleeping in Yi Han's room. Yi Han strongly resisted, accusing her of wanting to "have" him, but eventually relented, although he continued to bicker with her over the bed.
As Yi Han tried to read his script with the lights on, Pei Youyou offered her surprisingly insightful interpretation of his character, Shen Bing, calling it "layered" and potentially award-winning, which irritated Yi Han, who told her to go to sleep. That night, Pei Youyou had a vivid dream of her mother leaving her, crying and begging her not to go. Yi Han tried to wake her, but in her distress, she embraced him tightly.
Surprised by her vulnerability, Yi Han gently held her, reassuring her, "I'm your mom. I won't go! I won't leave!" and comforted her back to sleep. The next morning, Pei Youyou woke up to find herself still in Yi Han's arms under the same blanket. She screamed in shock and quickly pulled away. Yi Han, still groggy, simply commented, "So you really have no standards when you are hungry, do you?"
