Han Yayi informed Yuan Caixi about Li He's training injury, explaining that Lin Chuan had revealed Li He accidentally fell during a run, injuring his knee and causing a significant bleed. Li He's friends had previously questioned him about taking off his gauze, suspecting he was trying to hide the injury from Yuan Caixi, despite his claims that the wound needed air. Yuan Caixi expressed shock and concern upon learning the details.
Han Yayi urged Yuan Caixi to attend Li He's upcoming race, emphasizing its importance and how her presence could boost his morale, especially since he was injured. However, Yuan Caixi declined, stating her need to focus on her college entrance exams. She did, however, ask Han Yayi to tell Li He to be careful while running. Later, Yuan Caixi secretly brought medicine to the track for Li He.
Although she tried to leave unnoticed, Li He spotted her retreating figure and chased after her. When he caught up, Yuan Caixi reiterated her need to prioritize her studies for the upcoming college entrance exam and advised him to concentrate on his training. She firmly refused his offer to walk her home, simply telling him to be careful during training. Li He, undeterred, asked her to come watch his race.
Yuan Caixi took leave from school, accompanied by her mother, for a hospital check-up. The doctor informed them that Yuan Caixi had low platelet counts, along with abnormal white cell counts and hemoglobin levels. To be safe, a bone marrow biopsy was recommended, though the doctor noted it could simply be anemia. Yuan Caixi's mother, knowing that Caixi's father had leukemia, was visibly distressed. When Ning Zeyu asked if she would tell Li He after his race, Yuan Caixi said she would wait for the test results, believing that if the outcome was bad, being distant with him now might ultimately be for his own good. She was still undecided about attending Li He's race.
Ning Zeyu, whose mother interrupted their call to discuss his own plans, later texted Yuan Caixi, inviting her to his Network Programming Contest final, which he was attending covertly, having told his mother he was going to the library for research. That night, Yuan Caixi's mother sat with her, apologizing for not noticing her daughter's suffering sooner and expressing both heartbreak and immense pride in Yuan Caixi's courage. Yuan Haoxi joined them, and their mother lovingly embraced both her children.
Li He prepared for his track and field event, with his parents enthusiastically packing food and encouraging him. Ultimately, she decided to go. However, on her way to the competition, she fainted. Meanwhile, at the Network Programming Contest, Ning Zeyu was greeted by Professor He Yanjing from Tiangong University of Science and Technology, who expressed strong confidence in him following a winter training camp.
During the competition, Ning Zeyu received a phone call from the doctor at No. 2 Experimental Middle School, reporting that a female student matching Yuan Caixi's description (with a ponytail) had fainted and was in their infirmary. Deeply concerned, Ning Zeyu immediately left the contest, resulting in an automatic waiver, and rushed to the school's infirmary. He arrived at the infirmary to find Yuan Caixi still unconscious. Later, Ning Zeyu's mother received a call from Professor He Yanjing, who was concerned that Ning Zeyu had left the Network Programming Contest mid-event, resulting in an automatic waiver. His mother was shocked, having been unaware he was participating in any competition. Li He returned home appearing exhausted.
His parents, eager for news of a victory, trophy, or medal, were left in suspense as he went directly to rest. Lin Chuan, present at the house, explained to Li He's parents that Li He's performance was affected by poor form, but he was confident Li He would excel in future competitions. His parents worried about how Li He would cope with the setback.
