He Yichen brilliantly concluded his closing statement at the national college debate competition, earning widespread applause. After the debate, students gathered for photos, but Zhao Mosheng noticed He Yichen was missing. Xu Ying then loudly announced that Yichen had been asked out by a beautiful and intelligent debater from the opposing team, suggesting they were well-suited. Mosheng, anxious, hurried to find him. She found Yichen rejecting the opposing debater's confession. After the debater left, Mosheng approached Yichen.

Yichen then questioned why she hadn't come over when he signaled her, to which Mosheng explained that she couldn't interrupt a confession and joked that such an intervention needed a "name" to drive away a love rival. She then presented him with stomach medicine she had bought for him before the competition. Back in her dorm, Mosheng was diligently studying "Economic Law" in an effort to find more common ground with Yichen.

Her roommate, Lin Shaomei, excitedly told her about the widespread rumor that Yichen's girlfriend was Zhao Mosheng and demanded Mosheng treat them to dinner. Worried Yichen would be angry and think she spread the news, Mosheng rushed to find him to clarify. To her surprise, Yichen admitted he was the one who started the rumor. He reasoned that if Mosheng was destined to be his girlfriend in three years, he might as well "exercise his rights earlier." Mosheng was overjoyed.

Later, when she asked him why he chose her, Yichen confessed he wasn't entirely sure, but Mosheng eagerly promised to be the best girlfriend, telling him not to overthink it. From then on, Mosheng became Yichen's constant companion, attending classes and study sessions with him. Xu Ying, who also had feelings for Yichen, often targeted Mosheng.

During one instance, Xu Ying tasked Mosheng with buying lunchboxes for the debate club but then accused her of buying one less, a beef and rice meal designated for the teacher. Despite Mosheng's denial, Xu Ying pressed the issue. To settle the dispute, Yichen offered his own meal for the teacher and decided to share a lunchbox with Mosheng. This act of affection only further angered Xu Ying.

Later, as Mosheng was taking out the trash, Xu Ying confronted her, disparaging Yichen as a "poor guy" who couldn't afford the expenses for an exchange student program, thus giving up his spot to her. Xu Ying predicted Yichen would be a "worthless pauper" after graduation. Mosheng, usually docile, furiously retorted that Xu Ying's current advantages were solely due to her parents and declared that Yichen would achieve success through his own efforts, unlike those born privileged who might fail.

She concluded that Xu Ying did not deserve the exchange student opportunity or to be in Yichen's class. Yichen, who had overheard the entire exchange, then approached Mosheng. He told her his decision to give up the exchange student spot was the only way he could spend more time with her, and he inwardly vowed to provide her with a good life within a few years.

When final exams concluded and winter break approached, Mosheng was unconcerned about separation, as she and Yichen were both from Xinyi. She expected to see him daily. However, she realized she didn't have his home phone number. She found Yichen and asked for it, but he first claimed they had no phone and then admitted he simply didn't want to tell her. Mosheng speculated he didn't want his parents to know about her, but Yichen avoided the topic and left.

Feeling down, Mosheng returned home. Her father comforted her, explaining that Yichen's refusal stemmed from a man's pride due to his family's financial situation, a fact Mosheng confirmed she had learned previously. Her father assured her that this actually demonstrated Yichen's deep love for her. Mosheng's mood instantly brightened, and she decided to "accidentally" encounter Yichen by walking around town. Indeed, she spotted him and his "little sister," He Yimei, shopping.

Mosheng enthusiastically greeted Yichen and introduced herself to Yimei as Yichen's girlfriend. She then made Yichen promise to return to school with her on the 12th at noon at the train station. Back home, He Yimei questioned Yichen, reminding him he had said he wouldn't date in college. Yichen casually replied that Mosheng "approached him on her own" and was "like a little pest," but Yimei noticed the subtle smile in his eyes when he spoke of her.

On the day they returned to school, Mosheng rushed to Yichen and Yimei at the train station. Yimei explained that her school had moved to the old campus, right across from Yichen's, so they would be returning together. Mosheng joked about Yichen's sternness compared to Yimei's gentleness, wondering if they took after different parents. Yimei realized Yichen had not told Mosheng that they were not biological siblings, concluding Mosheng was still an "outsider."

Mosheng often expressed her fondness for Yimei, even calling her a "light bulb" (third wheel) whose presence made her more comfortable around Yichen. However, Yimei, secretly in love with Yichen, struggled to reciprocate Mosheng's warmth. She constantly convinced herself that Yichen didn't truly like Mosheng, hoping their relationship would eventually end. One evening, Yimei witnessed Yichen and Mosheng sharing an intimate kiss, which deeply distressed her.

She confided in her roommate, asking if a boy who didn't like a girl would kiss her, to which her roommate replied that kissing didn't necessarily imply love. Distraught, Yimei questioned why Yichen chose Mosheng over her, despite her own "better conditions." She resolved that she could no longer remain Yichen's "sister" and would not wait any longer. Later that same day, Yimei arranged to meet Mosheng.

She revealed that she and Yichen were not biological siblings; her parents had adopted Yichen after his parents' accident, and their similar surnames were merely a coincidence. Mosheng was shocked, realizing Yichen had never mentioned this. Yimei then declared her love for Yichen and stated her intention to compete openly with Mosheng. She challenged Mosheng, asking if she truly believed she could contend with her many years of "childhood friendship" with Yichen.

Stung by this revelation, Mosheng decided she needed to confront Yichen for clarification. Coincidentally, on the very same day, Mosheng's father, Zhao Qingyuan, also arranged to meet with Yichen. Soon after, Mosheng called Yichen's dorm but was told he had just left after receiving a call. Mosheng insisted on waiting for him outside his dorm.

When Yichen arrived, he was visibly distressed and abruptly told Mosheng to "never come see me again" and that he "didn't want to see her anymore." He delivered a final, heartbreaking blow: "I wish I never met you." Shattered, Mosheng's mind reeled, replaying Yimei's words about open competition and their long-standing childhood bond.
