After unmasking the "Bear Knight," Lin Xing Chen is shocked to discover he is none other than Jiang Nianyu. Overwhelmed by this revelation, she struggles to accept it, convinced she must be dreaming. Flashbacks of her past embarrassing interactions and flirtatious remarks towards the Bear Knight flood her mind, leaving her mortified. The humiliation is so profound that she feigns a stomachache to avoid attending school for three days, fearing she can no longer face anyone.
At school, Lin Xing Chen's absence is a topic of gossip among some female students who speculate she is too ashamed to show her face. Lei Jia Na, however, quickly intervenes, defending Lin Xing Chen by pointing out that Zheng Chu Yao was the one at fault for publicly shaming his fiancée. Her defense is cut short when Yu Yang Yang bumps into her, scattering books across the floor.
Lei Jia Na accuses Yu Yang Yang of feigning innocence, but their escalating argument is interrupted by Zheng Chu Yao, who claims responsibility for having invited Yu Yang Yang. Despite Zheng Chu Yao's intervention, Lei Jia Na retorts that no one else dares to reject the "little prince" Zheng Chu Yao, unlike herself. Moments later, Yu Yang Yang spots Jiang Nianyu and swiftly follows him.
Their departure leads to a tense confrontation between Jiang Nianyu and Zheng Chu Yao, where Zheng Chu Yao accuses Jiang Nianyu of meddling and warns him not to interfere with his matters. Meanwhile, Lin Xing Chen’s relative, Julia, is caught attempting to use Lin Xing Chen’s gold card at a store, which has already been reported missing.
Chen Ming Li, Lin Xing Chen's mother, arrives and sternly warns Julia that if she ever steals Lin Xing Chen's card again, all of Julia's own cards will be frozen. Later, Chen Ming Li attends a gathering with other affluent ladies, where she overhears whispers about Zheng Chu Yao humiliating Lin Xing Chen at the school dance. Despite her attempts to dismiss the rumors, she feels deeply embarrassed.
Upon returning home, she confronts Lin Xing Chen, angrily chastising her for causing such public humiliation. Chen Ming Li demands that Lin Xing Chen restore their family's honor and informs her that her engagement to Zheng Chu Yao will be formally announced at the Zheng family's 25th wedding anniversary the following week, warning her to be on her best behavior. At the Three Bears Bookstore, Jiang Nianyu is noticeably distracted.
The store owner, Xiao Xiang, senses he is waiting for someone. When Jiang Nianyu claims the person he was working for no longer needs him, Xiao Xiang reminds him of his responsible nature, urging him not to give up so easily. Her words resonate with Jiang Nianyu, who promptly leaves to find Lin Xing Chen. At Lin Xing Chen’s residence, Jiang Nianyu finds her hiding inside and using the intercom to pretend she is not home.
He urges her to attend school for her upcoming exams to avoid expulsion. Still ashamed, Lin Xing Chen dismisses his concerns, but Jiang Nianyu insists that he was hired by the principal and is committed to ensuring she does not fail, emphasizing that her success is their joint effort. Soon after, Principal Zheng Meng Xi also arrives. Lin Xing Chen is thrilled to see him, and he reassures her of her charm before gently chiding her for considering giving up.
He explains that her feelings for him are not love, but gratitude and a desire for protection. He describes love as a complicated feeling, often characterized by an intense desire to see the other person, even if they sometimes annoy you. Inspired, Lin Xing Chen begins to understand her true feelings and hurries to the bookstore to find Jiang Nianyu. Xiao Xiang tells her he just left in a hurry for "other important work."
As Lin Xing Chen walks home, she reflects on her complex emotions towards Jiang Nianyu—annoyance, loneliness, warmth, and hurt—realizing they are signs of love. At her gate, she finds a stack of review textbooks Jiang Nianyu left for her with a touching note, which moves her deeply. The next day, Lin Xing Chen arrives late for her exam and notices Jiang Nianyu coughing.
Feeling guilty that he got soaked delivering her books, she later prepares a snow pear soup for him. Jiang Nianyu, after tasting it, calls it the "taste of murder." During the exam, she passes him a note asking if he liked the soup, but he crumples it and tells her to stop meddling. Moments later, suffering from a stomachache caused by the soup, Jiang Nianyu rushes out of the classroom, leaving Lin Xing Chen worried.
At the 25th wedding anniversary of Zheng Chu Yao’s parents, his mother publicly announces the formal engagement between her son and Lin Xing Chen. She then cruelly humiliates Yu Yang Yang, whom she had invited, by pointing out her poor background. Outraged, Zheng Chu Yao rejects the arranged marriage, declares his love for Yu Yang Yang, and storms out with her.
Outside, however, Yu Yang Yang rejects him, stating that he has made her life a mess and that they are from different worlds. Later, Lin Xing Chen admits to Zheng Chu Yao that seeing him with another girl didn't hurt her, making her realize she may never truly love him. Meanwhile, Principal Meng Xi calls Xiao Xiang, his first love, but she has already asked Jiang Nianyu to cover for her at the bookstore.
A distraught Yu Yang Yang is at the store, confiding in Jiang Nianyu about the humiliation she endured. Meng Xi arrives to see Yu Yang Yang tearfully leaning on Jiang Nianyu and leaves, disappointed. He later encounters Xiao Xiang on the street and tries to apologize for their past, but she coldly rejects him, stating she has finally moved on. Later, Lin Xing Chen arrives at the bookstore and witnesses Yu Yang Yang tearfully embracing Jiang Nianyu.
Heartbroken, she leaves silently. The next day at school, she sees the exam results: Jiang Nianyu is first, while she is 342nd. She approaches him to apologize, but before she can, Yu Yang Yang pulls him away. Left alone, Lin Xing Chen finally understands that the complex mix of warmth, happiness, and pain she feels for him is love.
