After Ding Xiaorou changed her door password, Chi Xin quickly deduced the new combination and entered. Ding Xiaorou, who was holding a pot, was startled and apologized for not realizing it was him. Chi Xin explained that he believed she changed the password to feel safer from intruders, especially with reports of abnormal individuals targeting young women. He advised her to be careful and not wander alone. Ding Xiaorou, surprised, asked how he knew the new password.
Chi Xin explained that people often use three common passwords, and he had simply tried her Wi-Fi password, which turned out to be correct. Ding Xiaorou then commented on his hat, to which he replied he hadn't washed his hair that morning. Later that night, as Ding Xiaorou fell asleep while working on her window design, Chi Xin gently covered her with a blanket.
The next morning, Ding Xiaorou arrived at the exhibition hall to take measurements for the window design competition, but she lacked an invitation. A security guard stopped her, stating she couldn't enter without proper credentials. Just then, Jiang Yuan arrived, presented her own certificate, and vouched for Ding Xiaorou, allowing them both entry.
Ding Xiaorou recognized Jiang Yuan as the youngest deputy editor-in-chief of Fashion magazine and was surprised that Jiang Yuan knew her, to which Jiang Yuan replied that she had seen Ding Xiaorou's photos in the competition materials and on a recent TV show, finding her very cute in person.
Ding Xiaorou then attempted to persuade Jiang Yuan to allow her to set up her window design earlier than the official competition day due to its complex size requirements, explaining that without early setup, she would have to forfeit. Jiang Yuan, however, stated that such a request was against the rules and that contestants were only permitted to enter the venue two hours before the competition.
She suggested Ding Xiaorou prepare all her materials and promised to try and find a solution for the venue access. Meanwhile, Chi Xin was boiling a pot of water at home when his phone rang. Distracted by the call, he accidentally spilled water on a power strip, causing a short circuit. He left to buy replacement parts.
When Ding Xiaorou returned home, she found the power strip damaged and the programs for her light strip control software, which she had worked on for two nights, completely lost because her computer hadn't saved the data before it was powered off. She was devastated, realizing she only had sixteen hours until the submission deadline and no way to set up her complex window display in time.
Chi Xin, upon his return, apologized profusely for the accident and offered to help, explaining he had already bought new controllers and light strips. However, Ding Xiaorou found they were the wrong model and decided to buy them herself. Feeling defeated, she went to buy ice cream. While out, her mother called, expressing concern about Ding Xiaorou participating in "messy programs" and advising her to consider returning home to teach art, like her mother.
Her mother also probed about her love life, mentioning a neighbor's gossip about a boyfriend. Ding Xiaorou, though disheartened, tried to reassure her mother that she was working hard and wouldn't disappoint her, clarifying that her work was "window design," not "window styling." Determined to help Ding Xiaorou, Chi Xin rallied his team members, including Luo Siwen, Qi Ling, and Xiao Bao, to restore her design.
They successfully recovered her data and fixed all the issues, particularly her critical circuit lines. Simultaneously, Jiang Yuan called Ding Xiaorou, informing her that the exhibition workers had finished for the night, leaving the hall empty until 8 AM the next day. She promised to send Ding Xiaorou an "Application for approval" to grant her early access. Ding Xiaorou was ecstatic, realizing a miracle had finally happened.
Zheng Ze, unaware of the situation, called SA Yi and He Mingzhu, mentioning a surprise he had planned for Ding Xiaorou. He then called Ding Xiaorou, but she explained she was busy at the exhibition hall setting up her window and needed to secure her entry qualification first. Upon hearing this, Zheng Ze immediately rushed to the exhibition hall to help.
SA Yi, He Mingzhu, and Zhen Zheng also arrived, joining Chi Xin and his team to assist Ding Xiaorou in setting up her display. As Ding Xiaorou directed Chi Xin and the others, she accidentally tripped over a wire, causing a large background board to fall towards her. Chi Xin bravely rushed forward, preventing it from hitting her. Shortly after, Jiang Yuan arrived.
Ding Xiaorou introduced everyone to Jiang Yuan, including Chi Xin, noting Jiang Yuan's "combination of beauty and talent" and crediting her for securing early access. Jiang Yuan acknowledged that she and Chi Xin already knew each other from previous events. Chi Xin, upon seeing Jiang Yuan, quickly excused himself to buy more coffee. He took a cappuccino that Jiang Yuan had brought, and Jiang Yuan followed him.
A barista handed Chi Xin his matcha latte, and Jiang Yuan, noticing he had been drinking a cappuccino, remarked on his true preference for matcha. She then urged Chi Xin to consider starting a relationship with Ding Xiaorou, whom she admired. Chi Xin, however, countered by advising Jiang Yuan to start a new chapter herself. They then made a bet on who would begin a new relationship first.
Back at the exhibition, He Mingzhu, having observed the interaction, pressed Zhen Zheng to reveal the nature of Chi Xin and Jiang Yuan's past. Zhen Zheng reluctantly admitted that Jiang Yuan was Chi Xin's ex-girlfriend of seven years. Overhearing this, Ding Xiaorou misinterpreted Chi Xin's distant and unusual behavior as a result of heartbreak, leading her to believe he had changed his sexual orientation. With everyone's collective effort, Ding Xiaorou's window design was completed successfully.
As the team dispersed, Zheng Ze offered to drive Ding Xiaorou home, but she insisted on calling a private car, wanting him to rest. However, Chi Xin soon arrived and offered her a ride. In the car, Ding Xiaorou, concerned about Chi Xin, tried to counsel him, using the analogy of a "spicy hot pot" that caused diarrhea not meaning all spicy hot pots would.
She empathically stated that she understood his pain from a seven-year relationship ending, but urged him not to change his "orientation" just because one "tree" (Jiang Yuan) was gone when there was a whole "forest" out there. Chi Xin, bewildered by her misinterpretation, questioned what was going on in her mind. To prove he was a "straight man," he leaned in, suggesting she "try it" to see if he liked men or women.
Overwhelmed, Ding Xiaorou's heart raced, and she instantly suffered a narcolepsy attack, shouting "Earthquake! On fire!" Chi Xin found he couldn't wake Ding Xiaorou and struggled to unfasten her seatbelt. A community security guard approached, misunderstanding Chi Xin's close proximity to Ding Xiaorou and suspecting foul play. However, upon closer inspection, the guard realized Chi Xin was merely trying to undo her seatbelt.
When Ding Xiaorou eventually woke up, she remembered Chi Xin's attempt to prove his heterosexuality and finally realized he was a standard straight man, regretting her previous misunderstanding. Afterward, she became extremely awkward around him, jumping away when he reached out to her and nervously stating that men and women should keep their distance. The next day, Zheng Ze came to pick up Ding Xiaorou. He had planned a surprise for her, taking her to a high-end fashion boutique.
A sales assistant presented Ding Xiaorou with an exquisite evening gown, crafted from precious French embroidery fabric by over forty artisans. Ding Xiaorou, thinking it was for sale and beyond her means, expressed her inability to afford it. However, the assistant revealed that someone, implicitly Zheng Ze, had already purchased it for her, reserving it specially. Ding Xiaorou was visibly stunned and touched by Zheng Ze's grand gesture.
