Yao Dan, having reconciled with her husband, announced her plans for a romantic candlelit dinner. Meanwhile, Lin Yang and Cao Ling prepared for their own fresh start, opting for facials and gym memberships with the shared goal of becoming slimmer, more beautiful, and youthful. Unsettled by recent events, Xie Nanke found himself too distracted to attend Mr. Ma's lecture and asked Lin Yang to go in his stead.
Later, Lin Yang met with Cao Ling, expressing her frustration and embarrassment upon learning that their company was owned by Li Tian's family, especially after she had threatened to fire her. Lin Yang blamed Lu Zhengan's arrival for the ensuing chaos, but Cao Ling saw it as a positive challenge that would reignite Lin Yang's fighting spirit.
Following Li Miaomiao's advice, Cao Ling suggested Lin Yang feign ignorance about the situation, as their superior, Mr. Hua, seemed unaware of the complex relationships. Cao Ling also disclosed a private conversation she'd had with Lu Zhengan, where he expressed that Lin Yang's fierce independence made her life too hard and that he wished she would allow herself to be vulnerable like a "little girl who never grows up."
Cao Ling speculated that this was why Lin Yang and Xie Nanke, both too independent to rely on each other, never worked out, and she advised Lin Yang that having someone to depend on is a good thing. Later, while Lin Yang was reflecting on Cao Ling's words, Xie Nanke arrived at the bar where she was drinking alone.
He voiced his discomfort with Lu Zhengan residing in her home, but Lin Yang pointed out that she couldn't bring herself to evict him after he had tried so hard to move in. She then confronted Xie Nanke, accusing him of creating misunderstandings with his persistent but undefined "care." She recounted how she had once waited for him to confess his feelings, only to be disappointed. Now thirty-one, Lin Yang declared she no longer had time for ambiguity.
Xie Nanke tried to explain that he had remained silent because he was unsure when he'd return from abroad and didn't want to hold her back. Lin Yang tearfully challenged him, asking if he would have stayed if she had offered to go with him. She then firmly drew a boundary, insisting they revert to being "ordinary friends" and cease contact unless necessary. Xie Nanke accepted her terms. In a flashback, their first meeting is shown.
Xie Nanke, as Lu Zhengan's cousin, delivered a gift to Lin Yang. She invited him to dinner, where he announced his promotion to partner, which required him to go to America for two to six years. He informed her he had already booked his flight, effectively saying goodbye. Though heartbroken, Lin Yang put on a brave face, made an excuse about another engagement, and sent him away.
Snapping out of her painful memories, Lin Yang received a call from Lu Zhengan. He had just finished a new song and wanted her to be the first to hear it. As she listened, Lin Yang was overcome with emotion and began to weep. Sensing her distress, she vulnerably asked him to come pick her up. Lu Zhengan rushed over, arriving breathless and sweaty.
He then carried a drunken Lin Yang home on his back, and she playfully tugged at his hair while asking him to sing the new song again. Back at her place, Lu Zhengan tried to gently lay Lin Yang on her bed, but she clung to him, pleading with him not to leave. Mistaking him for Xie Nanke, she tearfully questioned why he could come and go as he pleased.
She lamented her own foolishness, realizing that true love doesn't wait, before drunkenly proclaiming herself a "warrior." Lu Zhengan acknowledged her strength but pointed out her deepest fear: being alone. He then made a heartfelt promise that from now on, she would have him. He vowed to always be there for her, to share in her joy and sorrow, and to never leave her alone. He affectionately called her "Wifey" and reassured her, "Don't be afraid! I am here."
The next morning, Li Tian reported to the business department and met a diligent colleague, Bai Luo Cheng, introducing herself and mentioning an upcoming project. Elsewhere, Lin Yang woke with a start, unsettled by hazy memories. Finding Lu Zhengan's room empty, she called him. Her fragmented memory only recalled him carrying her to the bedroom. Lu Zhengan confirmed this, joking about how heavy she was and how she fell asleep instantly.
He also playfully threatened to send a video of her drunken state to her mother if she over-drank again. Later, Lu Zhengan was seen at a car dealership purchasing a car, specifically choosing a model for its comfortable and safe backseat, a thoughtful gesture for their future together.
