Frustrated by Lin Yang's rush to go on blind dates, Lu Zhengan confronted her, declaring that he could marry her. He insisted she stop using their age difference as an excuse, arguing that just as his age was unchangeable, so was his desire to be with her. Lin Yang countered that she was past the age of dreaming and would rather stay single than waste time on a fruitless relationship, especially with him.

She stated firmly that she had never seen him as anything more than a younger brother. Crushed, Lu Zhengan stumbled away, asking Xie Nanke to take Lin Yang home. However, seeing Lu Zhengan's drunken state, Lin Yang told Xie Nanke to follow him instead, choosing to walk home alone.

Lin Yang arrived at the company in tears and confided in Cao Ling, admitting she felt miserable and that loving herself seemed impossibly hard, leading her to realize she had likely fallen for Lu Zhengan. Meanwhile, Xie Nanke tried to get a disoriented Lu Zhengan to go home, but he pushed her away, lashing out at "opinionated adults" who feign indifference despite their true feelings. Back at the office, Lin Yang couldn't believe she was crying over love at thirty-one.

Cao Ling suggested it might be a reawakened "girlish heart" or the effects of being single for too long, rather than genuine love. Lin Yang confessed she had long sensed something was amiss, enjoying Lu Zhengan’s affection while hiding behind their "brother-sister" relationship, and now recognized many boundaries had been crossed. Even if his feelings were sincere, Lin Yang felt she couldn't accept him due to realistic problems like their age gap and the likely disapproval of his parents.

After Cao Ling left, both Lin Yang and Lu Zhengan tried to work at the company but were too distracted, leading Lin Yang to wonder if she could be as reckless for love as Li Tian. To keep her mind occupied, Li Tian decided to find a new job. She ran into Xie Nanke, who directed her to the correct building for her interview, and they agreed to have dinner later.

Having stayed at the company all night, Lin Yang received a call from Xie Nanke, who told her to go home and rest, confirming Lu Zhengan wasn't at the apartment. A cleaning lady noticed Lin Yang's overnight stay, advised her against overworking, and offered to set her up on a date, prompting Lin Yang to leave quickly.

Walking through the city, Lin Yang felt torn, questioning if she was afraid of seeing Lu Zhengan again, or perhaps more afraid of never seeing him again. Back at her apartment, she showered and ate, then received a concerned call from Yao Dan, who, feeling responsible, announced she was coming over to mediate after a quick facial. Lin Yang dozed off on the sofa and woke to find Lu Zhengan sitting across from her.

After anxiously checking if she had snored, she feigned indifference as he admitted he had returned not just for his things, but because he was worried about her. She retorted that he should take everything and leave for good, masking her true desire for him to stay. Just then, Yao Dan knocked on the door, and Lu Zhengan quickly covered Lin Yang's mouth to keep her quiet.

Panicked, Lin Yang pushed Lu Zhengan into her bedroom before letting Yao Dan in. She tried to lure Yao Dan back outside, but her strange behavior made Yao Dan suspicious. Lin Yang invented a story about a "female cousin" with large feet staying over, but her lie was exposed when Yao Dan sent Lu Zhengan a text, and his phone began buzzing repeatedly from the bedroom.

Meanwhile, Jia Luxin met with Ma Le, stating that her "woman's sixth sense" told her Lu Zhengan and Lin Yang were more than just colleagues. Citing her numerous businesses in need of brand endorsers, she explained her interest in a deeper collaboration, but expressed concern that Lu Zhengan, marketed as a "boyfriend type," would see his commercial value plummet if he had a girlfriend. She demanded clarity on his relationship status before proceeding.

Later, at a tense dinner, Lin Yang, Lu Zhengan, Yao Dan, and Cao Ling gathered. With Lu Zhengan and Lin Yang clearly at odds, Yao Dan sided with Lu Zhengan, while Cao Ling voiced her disapproval of their age-gap relationship. The confrontation peaked when Lin Yang gave Lu Zhengan a three-day deadline to move out, threatening to abandon their project if he refused.

As Lin Yang left, Cao Ling followed, chiding her for being as childish and stubborn as Lu Zhengan, a trait they shared from growing up together. Back at the table, Yao Dan told a dejected Lu Zhengan that it was obvious Lin Yang didn't actually want him to leave. Lu Zhengan then unburdened himself, recounting his long-held feelings and describing how he had witnessed Lin Yang’s entire youth, from her first celebrity crush to her first period.

He recalled that after his family moved away when he was six, he constantly found excuses to visit her. He misinterpreted her teasing as a sign of affection, which only made him visit more frequently, unaware that she actually found his presence annoying. He explained that she had become an integral part of his life and, having waited over a decade for her, he refused to wait any longer. In response, Yao Dan offered a "mature suggestion": to play hard-to-get.

She advised him to move out immediately, cease all contact, and completely disappear from Lin Yang's life. Yao Dan assured him that if he was truly important to Lin Yang, she would eventually come back to him, as some people only realize what they have after they've lost it.
