As a writer, Tan Jiao often found herself lost in fantasies of time travel. Now, having experienced it, her only true concern was whether she would ever meet Wu Yu again. Tan Jiao and Zhuang Yu went to find Zhu Jirui to see if she remembered Yan Yuan. To their dismay, not only did Zhu Jirui not remember Yan Yuan, but she also had a new boyfriend.
Zhuang Yu, drawing a timeline diagram, explained to Tan Jiao that their actions on the boat had altered the timeline, creating a "butterfly effect" where past acquaintances were now strangers. Tan Jiao worried that Wu Yu might have disappeared from her life as well. Consumed by sadness, Tan Jiao felt like the female lead in a tragic romance. Zhuang Yu tried to cheer her up, reminding her that at least she still had her.
One day, while walking by the beach, Tan Jiao, still hoping to encounter Wu Yu, heard a song he had once played for her. She looked up and saw him in the crowd, accompanied by Chen Ruying. Seizing a moment when Chen Ruying was distracted, Tan Jiao and Wu Yu recognized each other, both retaining their memories of the previous timeline. Wu Yu took Tan Jiao’s hand and shared what he had learned since returning.
In this new reality, Wu Miao was only missing, not dead, offering a glimmer of hope. However, Professor Chen, his wife Feng Yan, and their driver had died in an accidental fire at a clubhouse, which was previously a wedding hotel in another timeline. Chen Ruying survived because she hadn’t attended. Soon after, a distraught Chen Ruying found Wu Yu, holding a bottle of potassium cyanide.
She had found it while cleaning an apartment previously rented by Su Wan, whom Chen Ruying described as her mother's sidekick, not a vice president. She suspected Su Wan was responsible for her parents’ death, linking it to a past serial poisoning case. However, when she reported it, the police told her Su Wan had left for Dali six months ago and vanished.
Wu Yu suspected Su Wan was the same serial killer who had killed his sister in the previous timeline, and he worried that Professor Chen might have discovered something, leading to his death. As Wu Yu, Tan Jiao, and Chen Ruying were leaving a cafe, a car suddenly sped towards Chen Ruying. Wu Yu quickly pulled her out of the way. Chen Ruying immediately identified the masked driver as Su Wan.
Wu Yu tried to book a hotel room for Chen Ruying, but she insisted on staying with him, pleading for his protection since her parents were gone. Tan Jiao intervened, suggesting Chen Ruying stay at her home, promising she would still be "within Brother Yu's sight." Upon entering Tan Jiao's apartment, Chen Ruying criticized its small size and deemed Tan Jiao's book, "May Time Flies," boring without even reading it.
Tan Jiao was irritated, but Wu Yu subtly defended her book, calling its title beautiful. Later that night, despite having become engrossed in the novel and praising it, Chen Ruying continued to make disparaging remarks, suggesting Tan Jiao wasn't as good a writer as "Qizhu" and pestering her for romance plot ideas. She claimed that she and Wu Yu were the only ones who truly understood each other's pain, unlike Tan Jiao, a "single lady."
Chen Ruying then tried to take Tan Jiao’s bed, forcing Tan Jiao to sleep on the uncomfortable sofa. Tan Jiao, frustrated, eventually left the apartment to find a quiet place to write. Meanwhile, Zhuang Yu was on the phone, arranging a gift for Shen Shiyan. She accidentally rear-ended his car at a traffic light, damaging a garage kit on her dashboard.
Noticing an identical garage kit in Shen Shiyan's car, Zhuang Yu desperately tried to buy it, claiming it was a gift for her estranged boyfriend and that her love life was now in jeopardy. Shen Shiyan, touched by her fabricated story, gave her his garage kit for free, wishing her happiness and urging her to drive carefully. Later, at a restaurant, Shen Shiyan met with Tan Jiao and Wu Yu, agreeing to help reinvestigate Professor Chen's death.
Just then, Zhuang Yu arrived, bringing the garage kit to Tan Jiao, revealing her lie to Shen Shiyan. A drunken man then started a fight, verbally abusing women. Shen Shiyan swiftly intervened, identifying himself as a third-level superintendent from the Municipal Criminal Police Force, and subduing the man. Zhuang Yu was impressed, her heart stirring with admiration for Shen Shiyan. Chen Ruying, observing the scene, misinterpreted Tan Jiao's interaction with Shen Shiyan, believing Tan Jiao was actually interested in him.
She then warned Tan Jiao that Zhuang Yu was not a "kind person" because she also had feelings for Shen Shiyan. Tan Jiao dismissed Chen Ruying's accusations, but Chen Ruying persisted, making disparaging remarks about Tan Jiao's appearance and personality. Fed up, Tan Jiao told Chen Ruying she was "right" and left the apartment to find a quiet place to write.
The next day, as Tan Jiao, Wu Yu, and Chen Ruying were trying to find anyone who had seen Su Wan, Wu Yu noticed they were being followed by a man in black. Chen Ruying believed it to be Su Wan, and they chased him into a bar, only to discover it was Chen Xingjian, a civilian who had run out of fear because multiple people were chasing him.
The bar owner then invited them to a "party night" celebrating the bar's first anniversary, mentioning that Wu Miao's favorite band would be playing. Later, Wu Yu, looking at his timeline analysis, noted that their return date was August 19th, while the current date was September 1st, 2022. He theorized that time was consistently moving backward. Tan Jiao wondered how they could trigger another time jump to return to the boat and save Wu Miao.
Recalling that their previous time travel was triggered by a kiss, they decided to recreate the condition. As they leaned in, Tan Jiao expressed her fear of being separated if only one of them time-traveled. Wu Yu reassured her, promising to find her no matter where they ended up. Just as they were about to kiss, Chen Ruying walked in, catching them in the act. They awkwardly explained they were "doing an experiment."
Separately, Zhuang Yu returned Shen Shiyan’s repaired car. When Shen Shiyan suggested she get a driving instructor, Zhuang Yu jokingly called herself a "dangerous driver" and, in a phone call he overheard, implied that another accident might compel a man to help her. Shen Shiyan immediately agreed to be her instructor. As he adjusted her seat, they shared a moment of close proximity, their hearts racing.
During the lesson, Zhuang Yu noticed Shen Shiyan was secretly consulting a driving guideline on his phone and teased him for "learning as he teaches." Shen Shiyan, slightly embarrassed, told her to stay focused, emphasizing that he simply didn't want her to get into another accident. Zhuang Yu agreed.
