Cheng Yao went to the company’s storage room, thinking no one would come there. She tidied up a simple sleeping area for herself but was shocked to discover that someone had actually sent Qian Heng an urn—clearly, he was deeply hated. Although the place was a bit spooky, she mustered the courage to sleep there to save money. Meanwhile, Qian Heng was tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

His insomnia had worsened recently, and nothing he tried seemed to help, so he had no choice but to go to the firm and work overtime. Cheng Yao was startled awake by a nightmare. When she came out to use the restroom, she saw Qian Heng arriving to work overtime. She quickly lay on the floor to hide—she couldn’t let him find her, or she’d be scolded again.

Once Qian Heng turned toward his office, she quietly returned to the storage room to sleep. Troubled by his insomnia, Qian Heng visited a doctor that Wu Jun had arranged. Wu Jun had praised the doctor to the skies, but Qian Heng found the treatment unimpressive, with no noticeable improvement. At work, Cheng Yao had dark circles under her eyes due to poor sleep.

Tan Ying asked with concern about her condition, while Yu Fei and Bao Rui came over to join the fun, betting on how long Cheng Yao could survive Qian Heng’s torment. Hearing this made Cheng Yao start to strategize in her mind. Wanting to leave a good impression, she went to the restroom to cover her dark circles with some foundation.

When she came out, she ran into Qian Heng, who mistakenly thought she had spent all her time on makeup. The meeting was about to begin, and Qian Heng, with a stern face, told Cheng Yao that arriving later than the boss counts as being late. She was so frightened that she dashed toward the conference room. The topic of the meeting was the post-divorce property division in a case.

Qian Heng had Cheng Yao and Bao Rui compete for the case. In the end, Cheng Yao still couldn’t avoid being scolded. Back in the office, everyone comforted her, and Cheng Yao remained optimistic, with no thought of giving up. In the group chat, Yu Fei and Tan Ying discussed how Cheng Yao was different—any other assistant would have been fired long ago under such circumstances. That night, Qian Heng came to work overtime again.

Cheng Yao, awakened by the noise, thought she had overslept, but when she checked the time, it was only five in the morning. She came out to see who was making noise and ran into Qian Heng. Thinking quickly, she claimed she was also there to work overtime—just a "slow bird starting early"—and even mentioned that Qian Heng had dark circles under his eyes.

Qian Heng didn’t respond on the surface but went back to his office and put on sunglasses to cover them. Wu Jun arrived at the firm. His personality was completely different from Qian Heng’s. In fact, his reason for hiring Cheng Yao had an ulterior motive—his true target was Cheng Yao’s sister, Cheng Xi—but Cheng Yao had no idea, and only Qian Heng understood his little scheme.

After work, Cheng Yao waited for Qian Heng to leave because only then could she go back and sleep peacefully. But Qian Heng unexpectedly returned and caught her. Cheng Yao begged him to let her continue sleeping at the company until she found a place to live. Qian Heng didn’t scold her further. Early the next morning, Cheng Yao woke up and made herself a little food.

Seeing that Qian Heng was still working overtime, she kindly prepared a cup of coffee for him. However, she was reprimanded—Qian Heng told her that her goal was to become a lawyer, not a tea-serving assistant. Cheng Yao pleaded to be allowed to work on a case, saying she didn’t need a cut of the fees, she just wanted experience. To her surprise, Qian Heng agreed immediately.

Cheng Yao thought he had softened, but it turned out Bao Rui had injured his foot, and Qian Heng needed someone to replace him in gathering materials. It was pouring rain outside, and Cheng Yao braved the storm to collect information. When she returned, there was a power outage, so she couldn’t shower at the office. She asked Qian Heng to drop her off at a hotel near her rental, but he coldly refused.

However, in the end, Qian Heng relented and brought her to his home to use the bathroom. To show her gratitude, Cheng Yao made a late-night snack in the kitchen, making quite a racket. Unexpectedly, in the midst of her singing and the clatter of pots and pans, Qian Heng had one of his best sleeps in a long time.
