When Qian Heng saw that Cheng Yao's arm had been scratched, he took out a bandage he carried with him and helped her put it on. He even gave a strained explanation, saying that if an employee gets injured during work, the boss bears undeniable responsibility. The next day at work, because they had won the case, Bao Rui excitedly suggested treating Cheng Yao to a big meal.

Cheng Yao declined, saying there was no joy in someone like Chen Qingmei winning the case. Qian Heng called Cheng Yao into his office and explained why he took on Chen Qingmei’s case. He said judging a person’s character requires a comprehensive perspective—even the worst people have a kind side, and sometimes they act out of desperation. Besides, the law grants freedom to everyone, and when someone truly commits a wrongdoing, the law won’t go easy on them.

The conversation was eye-opening for Cheng Yao. She realized she had been too emotional and not professional enough. Thinking it over, she felt it was worthwhile to be Qian Heng’s assistant attorney. Cheng Yao gave a summary of the Chen Qingmei case, and Qian Heng didn’t express any opinion. Bao Rui commented that Cheng Yao had already surpassed the previous thirteen assistants.

Suddenly, the power went out and the room was plunged into darkness. Thinking of the horror movie they had just watched, Cheng Yao didn’t dare stay in her room alone. She ran to Qian Heng’s room and, after some pleading, stayed there. Neither of them could fall asleep, so they started chatting about Qian Heng’s early career. Qian Heng said his parents had not supported him in the beginning and that he had built his career from scratch.

He also encountered a mentor who deliberately created obstacles for him—it had taken a lot for him to get where he was. After chatting for a while, they both got hungry and got up for a late-night snack. Cheng Yao talked about her own early days as a lawyer, when her mentor often made her accompany him to drinking events. Qian Heng was furious when he heard this. He asked for the person’s name and then pointed out a future direction for Cheng Yao’s career.
