After his sister, Shiyu, suggested that Xu Yiren had feelings for him, Fang Zhiyou confronted Xu Yiren directly. She emphatically denied it, explaining that her greatest strength was self-awareness and she would never harbor such "fantasies" about him. Relieved, Fang Zhiyou stated that if his assistant were to like him, he would fire her, explaining that it would inevitably affect her work and that dismissal would be the best option for her.
Feeling utterly humiliated, Xu Yiren confided in her friend, Xia Di. Xia Di teased her, suggesting Xu Yiren was upset not just because of the misunderstanding, but because Fang Zhiyou had explicitly rejected the idea of her liking him. After light-heartedly making fun of Xu Yiren’s appearance, Xia Di sincerely told her that Fang Zhiyou was not worthy of her. Meanwhile, Gu Bo took Xia Di to a haunted house attraction to help her overcome a creative block.
Hoping to be a hero, Gu Bo was instead terrified by the experience, clinging to Xia Di and, in a moment of panic, desperately pleading for them to be together. Xia Di, completely unfazed, found it boring and ended up comforting the hysterical Gu Bo. Later, Fang Zhiyou decided to take Xu Yiren to an important bidding conference.
However, just as they were about to leave, Xu Yiren received a call from a hospital informing her that her ex-boyfriend, Gao Ming, had been in a car accident. Fearing Fang Zhiyou’s strong dislike for Gao Ming would prevent her from going, Xu Yiren lied, claiming Xia Di was the one in the hospital. Fang Zhiyou allowed her to leave and asked He Yuwen to attend the Huaxing Movie World Project bid with him instead.
At the conference, Fang Zhiyou discovered his design proposal had vanished from his briefcase, causing his company, Square & Circle, to lose the significant project. At the hospital, Xu Yiren found Gao Ming's injuries were only superficial. He tried to manipulate her into staying by feigning pain, but she was no longer swayed. She firmly told him she no longer loved him and only came because she believed he was seriously hurt, expressing her disdain for his constant lies.
Back at the company, a furious Fang Zhiyou, suspecting he had been lied to, had Gu Bo call Xia Di. When Xia Di answered, clearly unharmed, the deception was exposed. When Xu Yiren returned, Fang Zhiyou confronted her about her unanswered calls, which she realized Gao Ming must have hung up. Infuriated that she had abandoned her duties for an ex-boyfriend, Fang Zhiyou fired her on the spot.
Deeply remorseful, Xu Yiren blamed herself for the loss of the Huaxing project and was puzzled over how the design file, which she had checked, had disappeared. In the office, while a colleague named Sha Sha sympathized with Xu Yiren, He Yuwen maintained that everyone must take responsibility for their actions, admitting that hiring Xu Yiren was her own oversight.
Meanwhile, Li Zhe, having learned about Square & Circle losing the project, found Fang Zhiyou at a villa in Qingshan, a place of shared childhood memories. After visiting his own father, who suffers from memory loss, Li Zhe confronted Fang Zhiyou, telling him he came to see him humbled by defeat and that he lost the right to call him by his childhood nickname thirteen years ago.
Li Zhe blamed Fang Zhiyou for his mother's death and his father's condition before violently attacking him, vowing to make him lose everything. Fang Zhiyou stoically endured the beating, telling Li Zhe to continue if it made him feel better, but also to consider letting go of his pain.
At home, a heartbroken Xu Yiren began building a model of the Huaxing Project’s main building, hoping to present it to Huaxing's head and convince them to give Square & Circle another chance. Xia Di visited, joking that Xu Yiren must have Stockholm syndrome for still helping the man who fired her. Concerned for her friend, Xia Di and Gu Bo confronted Gao Ming.
After Gu Bo’s attempt to be brave failed, the kickboxing-proficient Xia Di quickly subdued Gao Ming, forcing him to admit he was a "scumbag." Seeing Xu Yiren’s lingering guilt, Gu Bo claimed he had a way to get her reinstated, asking for a home-cooked meal from Xia Di as a reward if he succeeded.
In his office, Fang Zhiyou looked at a coffee cup with a smiley face Xu Yiren had once drawn, then tossed it in the trash just as Gu Bo arrived to talk to him about her.
