Feeling upset after her breakup, Chen Miren, with her luggage, stumbled on the road. Frustrated, she left her suitcase behind and walked away. Her parents noticed her low spirits, but her father believed she should be given space to handle things. Her mother, however, worried that Chen Miren was spoiled by her father. Meanwhile, Luo Si was thrilled when Fang Mao's mother called to invite her to her birthday party, hoping it meant acceptance into the family.
At the party, Fang Mao's mother showered Luo Si with compliments, praising her thoughtfulness and nimble hands, recalling how Luo Si had made her chrysanthemum tea, knitted scarves and gloves, and even ten pairs of wool knee pads with heartfelt inscriptions when she was hospitalized for arthritis. The atmosphere shifted when Fang Mao's mother announced her intention to adopt Luo Si as her goddaughter, making her Fang Mao's sister.
She pledged to treat Luo Si like her own child and even asked Luo Si to help vet Fang Mao's future partners. Fang Mao tried to object, but his mother quickly silenced him, reminding him it was her birthday. A dismayed Luo Si politely declined, explaining that a fortune teller had warned her about her "hard fate" potentially harming her parents, and excused herself due to school matters before wishing Mrs. Fang a happy birthday and leaving.
Fang Mao rushed after her, trying to explain he was unaware of his mother's intentions and his silence was to avoid upsetting her on her birthday, planning to address it later. He then blamed Luo Si for being inconsiderate and embarrassing his mother. Luo Si, hurt, sarcastically called him "Godbrother," signaling the end of their relationship. Fang Mao warned her not to regret it, but Luo Si affirmed she wouldn't.
Later, Luo Si messaged Chen Miren about going to a bar. Chen Miren, still gloomy, joined her. Xu Miaomiao was also there, lamenting Bao Jiaguo's sudden indifference after he had always been there to help, even taking the blame for her cheating in a recent exam. Zhao Gu, also at the bar, encountered her ex-boyfriend, Dylan, and his friends. Dylan falsely claimed he dumped her, but Zhao Gu quickly exposed his infidelity as the real reason for their breakup.
Dylan's boss, Harris, was intrigued by Zhao Gu's composed reaction, remarking on how unique she was among Dylan's Chinese ex-girlfriends for not being emotional. Zhao Gu calmly stated that breaking up is just a phase, not a failure, and she wouldn't let a man define her emotions or value.
After hearing Luo Si's story about Fang Mao's family demoting her from a prospective daughter-in-law to a goddaughter, due to their intellectual background looking down on her non-intellectual family, Chen Miren also revealed her own recent breakup with Zhong Wei. She explained that Cao Jia'er's return and Zhong Wei's secretive interactions with her had led to their split.
Feeling angry and betrayed, Chen Miren deleted Zhong Wei's contact information, inspiring some of her friends to do the same with their own ex-partners. However, Xu Miaomiao refused to delete Bao Jiaguo, declaring her intention to actively pursue him instead. Meanwhile, Zhong Wei, regretting his actions, tried to message Chen Miren to explain that he had hidden his meeting with Cao Jia'er out of fear of another breakup, only to find that Chen Miren had deleted him.
The next day, Chen Miren arrived at work, remembering she had deleted Zhong Wei. She encountered Qi Chao, who noticed Zhong Wei's absence and inquired about a quarrel. Qi Chao mentioned Zhong Wei had stormed out yesterday, angrily saying, "Chen Miren, you're really something," and dragging a "shabby suitcase." Chen Miren began bringing Qi Chao coffee daily for a month, hoping to see Zhong Wei, but he remained absent from the company.
Qi Chao later advised Zhong Wei that communication and trust are vital in a relationship. Zhong Wei explained he felt misunderstood; his actions were merely to protect their relationship from Cao Jia'er's interference, not to two-time Chen Miren. Since Chen Miren had deleted him, he couldn't explain, so Qi Chao suggested he explain face-to-face when school resumed. On the day of return to school, Bao Jiaguo conspicuously set up a "Return to School Helper Team."
When he saw Xu Miaomiao with her heavy luggage, he immediately went to assist her, ignoring another girl who also needed help. Luo Si returned to her dorm, surprising her roommates by announcing her reconciliation with Fang Mao. She explained she had apologized, feeling she had overreacted given his mother's heart condition, and they had decided to pursue a "secret relationship." Later, Zhong Wei arrived downstairs at Chen Miren's dorm.
He simply returned her suitcase without saying a word before leaving. Her friends interpreted this as his awkward attempt to apologize and encouraged Chen Miren to soften her stance. However, Chen Miren remained firm, asserting she had done nothing wrong and would not be the first to yield. At a lecture, Xu Miaomiao noticed Cao Jia'er among the attendees and speculated she might have transferred to the school specifically for Zhong Wei, amazed by the effort she was putting in.
Shortly after, Zhong Wei confronted Cao Jia'er outside, asking if she had approached Chen Miren. He firmly stated that Chen Miren was his girlfriend and asked Cao Jia'er not to disturb her. Cao Jia'er then revealed that her parents wouldn't allow her to return to the U. S. for her studies, leading her to transfer to the Business English Department at Hanhai University instead.
