> Mengfei Comes Across Recap

Your Majesty and the concubines gathered in the garden to watch a cockfighting contest. As Your Majesty enthusiastically cheered for his prized red chicken, "Small White," Consort Meng expressed her bewilderment at the name. When asked for her thoughts, Consort Meng remarked that Small White was a truly fortunate chicken, having gained the Emperor's favor, and that its life was worth it even if it died. Coincidentally, Small White immediately collapsed and died.

A devastated Your Majesty ordered Liu Jinyan to heal the chicken. Consort Meng was embarrassed when Your Majesty commanded her beheading, and she fainted from fright. Liu Jinyan intervened, pleading for Consort Meng. Your Majesty then instructed Liu Jinyan to thoroughly investigate the true cause of Small White's death, reiterating his threat of beheading if the cause remained unknown. Overwhelmed, Liu Jinyan also fainted.

Back in her palace, Consort Meng learned that Yanfei had told her all the other consorts had formed a "Consort Consolation Organization" to comfort Your Majesty. Believing her words might have contributed to Small White's demise, Consort Meng decided to play a requiem on her flute outside Changji Palace. However, her music was so terrible that two eunuchs covering their ears begged her to stop, and Imperial Physician Liu Jinyan appeared, reprimanding her.

Just then, Wu Weiyong arrived to summon both Consort Meng and Imperial Physician Liu Jinyan to see Your Majesty. Inside, Your Majesty inquired about the flute player outside, expressing irritation that they were gloating. Consort Meng discreetly hid her flute behind her back and agreed, stating that such a person surely deserved retribution. Liu Jinyan then presented his findings on Small White's death, attributing it to "postpartum depression." Consort Meng mocked this diagnosis for a long time.

Seeing Consort Meng's reaction, Your Majesty assigned her the task of arranging Small White's burial. Consort Meng, Yanfei, and Noble Lady Xiao began digging a grave, intending to bury Small White next to Yanfei's former pet, Di Bai. Imperial Chef Cai Tai Xian arrived with new dishes for them to sample. Qu Pin, after tasting one, expressed disdain, leading to further retorts towards Cai Tai Xian from the others.

Suddenly, Yanfei noticed that Small White's body had vanished from its designated spot. Suspecting Cai Tai Xian, Consort Meng stormed into the kitchen and found him eating chicken. She accused him of consuming Your Majesty's beloved Small White, but Cai Tai Xian, with a wronged expression, denied it and even offered to cry to Consort Meng.

Later, Consort Meng returned to her palace and found a woman in white robes on a bridge, while Yanfei and others hid behind a pillar. Yanfei whispered to Consort Meng that the woman claimed to be Small White. Initially disbelieving, Consort Meng was terrified when the woman burned feathers with fire, and she immediately retreated into the palace. Later, the woman, calling herself "Small White," demanded tributes, including gold, silver, jewelry, bracelets, and food.

Consort Meng and her companions then felt something was amiss. That night, Consort Meng feigned a trip to the restroom and went to Changji Palace to seek Your Majesty's help in solving the problem. After hearing her story, Your Majesty stated that it was mere trickery involving spirits. He then went with Consort Meng to see the woman. Your Majesty recognized the woman as an opera troupe leader whom he had seen two years prior.

Impressed by her immense strength, he had sent her to the cold palace to pull weeds, and she was still there. Consort Meng immediately understood the entire situation. She had a late-night talk with the so-called "chicken deity," learning that the woman planned to take some money and escape the palace. Consort Meng then decided to help her escape the imperial palace to live a new life.

Some time later, Yanfei and the other consorts heard that a wall in the cold palace had collapsed and someone had escaped. They then realized that Consort Meng had known all of this early. Furious, they began to "beat" her. Meanwhile, the opera troupe leader returned to her troupe, resumed her profession, and lived a happy life.
