After Xia Rui witnessed Liu Bin working diligently at a coffee shop, she realized he wasn't a bad person. His loyalty, particularly his willingness to take responsibility to spare his friends from punishment, impressed her. Resolving their past conflict, Xia Rui suggested they get to know each other, believing a new friend is better than a new enemy. Liu Bin accepted, and they humorously began calling each other "Brother Rui" and "Brother Bin," marking their unexpected friendship.

Meanwhile, the announcement of a school sports meet excited Class Nine. A side story developed when Yang Yufei, selected for a research program at the Provincial Art Museum, recommended Nan Xi for the second spot. Nan Xi declined, explaining he disliked crowds, and insisted on paying her fifty yuan for a book she had gifted him. Yang Yufei's friend, Meng Shiran, was often more upset by these rejections than Yang Yufei herself.

While comforting her friend, Meng Shiran revealed that Nan Xi was a patient of her mother, a psychiatrist. This conversation was overheard by Li Da, who immediately twisted the information into a rumor that Nan Xi had a mental illness. Later, as Nan Xi, Xia Rui, and Zhao Yishu watched Cheng Erluo play basketball, Li Da, still bitter about a previous loss, loudly taunted Nan Xi, calling him mentally ill.

He publicly revealed that Nan Xi had seen a psychiatrist and dropped out of his former school because he couldn't cope, connecting it all to Meng Shiran's mother. Deeply hurt by the public exposure of his private struggles, Nan Xi fled. Xia Rui chased after him, promising to always protect him and reminding him he was no longer alone, with friends like her, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu.

She reassured him that what happened at his old school would not be repeated. As the rumors spread throughout the school, Nan Xi was met with constant whispers and stares. Xia Rui and Cheng Erluo consistently shielded him from the scrutiny. During a class discussion about the rumors, the students' chatter became overwhelming for Nan Xi. Seeing his distress, Xia Rui placed her headphones over his ears, playing her own English recordings to block out the noise.

In class, Mr. Hu taught a lesson on the destructive nature of rumors. Spurred by the lesson and his classmates’ mixed reactions—some admitting they couldn't understand him because he was so withdrawn—Nan Xi made a brave decision. He stood up and openly explained that he had social anxiety disorder and was in treatment, expressing his willingness to let his classmates get to know him.

Determined to help, Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu researched treatments and decided on exposure therapy—gradually helping Nan Xi acclimate to social situations. The next day, Cheng Erluo walked to school with Nan Xi, talking nonstop, and in class, students gathered around him as planned. Though Nan Xi appeared calm, Cheng Erluo noticed he was wearing headphones, using them as a barrier. Still, his willingness to be physically near others was a major step.

To clarify the situation, the school had Meng Shiran's mother, Doctor Lin, speak with those involved. In a conversation with Xia Rui and the friends, Dr. Lin expressed her astonishment at Nan Xi's progress, noting it was rare for someone with social anxiety to voluntarily disclose their condition. She praised his bravery, citing his public rejection of Yang Yufei and his recent classroom confession.

She also revealed that Nan Xi had once rushed through a crowded street, conquering his fear, to protect Xia Rui when he thought she was in danger. Dr. Lin affirmed that Xia Rui's friendship was the most effective "medicine" for Nan Xi, helping him step out of his isolated world. In the following days, Nan Xi’s condition improved significantly. Once solitary, he began eating meals with Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu.

Though still quiet, he no longer shied away from social contact, and the bond between the friends grew stronger. Xia Rui continued to encourage him, reminding him to smile and let go of his guard.
