Meeting You Episode 28 (Ending) Recap
> Meeting You Recap
After discovering that the same email address used to frame Nan Xi for plagiarism was also used to submit a design for a school award, Hao Tian traced the owner to Gao Ting. The search had been difficult because Gao Ting was reclusive and kept no contact with anyone in his department. While Xia Rui and Hao Tian were furious, Nan Xi wished to meet Gao Ting calmly.
Having previously seen Gao Ting's early design work, Nan Xi noticed a stark difference between his past and recent designs. He believed Gao Ting had lost his way, and his inner world had become as fragmented as his current work, which is why Nan Xi wanted to talk to him. Gao Ting was tricked into meeting Nan Xi at a cafe, where he defiantly admitted to the plagiarism scheme.
He challenged Nan Xi to expose him, expressing deep resentment for what he perceived as Nan Xi's superior attitude. Gao Ting confessed that he felt Nan Xi had stolen his spotlight, making him feel mediocre after having always been considered a genius. He claimed he had tried to befriend Nan Xi, but misinterpreted Nan Xi's social anxiety as disdain. Nan Xi, unmoved, questioned if that was the only reason, asking, "Does others' failure mean nothing to you?"
Nan Xi decided against publicly exposing Gao Ting, stating he only ever wanted to clear his name, not punish anyone. Having experienced the pain of being gossiped about himself, he simply told Gao Ting he wished they had never met and that their paths would never cross again. Subsequently, the magazine published a formal apology, and the school prepared a new award ceremony for Nan Xi. Before the ceremony, Nan Xi asked Xia Rui about her dreams for the future.
She shared her hope to be with the person she loves, become a barista, and own a coffee shop, and Nan Xi promised to help her achieve it. On stage, Nan Xi acknowledged that the honor was hard-won and dedicated his award to his friends and to Xia Rui, his inspiration, stating, "Without you guys, there would not be this moment."
In a heartfelt reflection, Nan Xi mused that his life once felt like a lonely boat adrift in darkness until Xia Rui appeared like a lighthouse, illuminating his path. She brought warmth and laughter into his world, giving him the courage to love and grow. He concluded that meeting her was the best thing that ever happened to him. Three years later, their lives have evolved.
Zhao Yishu is a sought-after actress, while Cheng Erluo has become a basketball star in Binhai, though he still playfully calls Yishu his "wife." Encouraged by Yang Yufei, Liu Bin gained admission to Binhai University, and the two are now a couple. Nan Xi and Xia Rui have just returned from Italy, eager for the familiar comforts of home.
Before they left, Nan Xi had bought the house they used to rent, valuing the memories it held far more than its now-skyrocketing monetary worth. The group of friends reunited at Nan Xi and Xia Rui's home for a celebratory dinner, also intending to help plan the wedding for Yi and Coach Yang Shengnan. However, their plans were upended when a cake arrived with a note from Yi.
He announced that he and Shengnan, realizing their dream was to travel the world together, had decided on a travel wedding and had already departed. In the note, Yi also entrusted his beloved Yami Cafe to Xia Rui, calling her the most talented barista he knew. Though surprised, the friends continued their joyful reunion. During the gathering, Xia Rui reflected in a voiceover that their adult lives had turned out even better than they had imagined.
She felt as though time had paused, with everyone still embodying their essential selves, and she expressed gratitude for their enduring bond. Later, at the closed Yami Cafe, Xia Rui contemplated Yi's offer. Nan Xi was supportive, suggesting he would reserve a spot in the cafe for her to use as a desk for her future work as an independent designer.
The episode ends with the two reflecting on their good fortune, as Xia Rui tells Nan Xi that meeting him was the luckiest thing that ever happened to her, a sentiment he warmly returned.
