Distraught, Zhen Yuanyuan wandered aimlessly into the middle of the street, almost getting hit by a car. The driver, annoyed by her reckless behavior, accused her of trying to extort money. Zhen Yuanyuan retorted that she wasn't extorting anyone, but was heartbroken because her man had a child with another woman behind her back. She argued that she had the right to be sad or distracted.
She berated him, saying men like him always say one thing and do another, and challenged him to call the police if he dared to arrest her. The driver took her up on the challenge and called 110. At the police station, the officer informed Zhen Yuanyuan that the driver, out of sympathy for her being dumped, would not hold her accountable and she could leave after signing a document.
Zhen Yuanyuan asked the officer to keep her secret, specifically about being dumped and brought to the station. The officer assured her that her privacy was legally protected. Xiao Nan arrived, worried about her, asking if she was injured and why she was taken to the police station. Crying, Zhen Yuanyuan embraced Xiao Nan, denouncing Ruan Dongsheng as a "bastard" who, despite being a father, still seduced her.
Xiao Nan was shocked to hear Ruan Dongsheng was a father, learning the child's mother was Rebecca. Zhen Yuanyuan bitterly stated that Ruan Dongsheng had claimed his love would be like the beginning, but it was all lies, and now the three of them lived "happily and peacefully" as a family. Xiao Nan pressed her for details, asking if she had seen them as a family and who the child's mother was.
Zhen Yuanyuan confirmed it was Rebecca, whom she called "the old witch who always tries to eat me up." Rebecca arranged a meeting with Zhen Yuanyuan, telling her she understood Zhen Yuanyuan's feelings as a woman and apologized, thinking Zhen Yuanyuan had given up on Ruan Dongsheng. Zhen Yuanyuan replied that Rebecca didn't understand her, or she wouldn't have let her see what happened that day.
Rebecca revealed that Ruan Dongsheng had always loved Zhen Yuanyuan, his fiancée, who was the only one in his heart. Rebecca admitted that when she and Ruan Dongsheng were studying abroad, she was young and competitive, believing she could eventually win him over from his missing fiancée. When Ruan Dongsheng was drunk, she took advantage of the situation, resulting in her pregnancy.
She claimed Ruan Dongsheng never intended to take responsibility for her or their child, telling her to forget everything. Zhen Yuanyuan questioned why Rebecca gave birth if he was such a "bastard," to which Rebecca confessed it was because she loved him. She had deluded herself for years, hoping Ruan Dongsheng would accept her after Zhen Yuanyuan disappeared.
Rebecca lamented that Ruan Dongsheng hadn't looked at her for years and didn't even acknowledge their daughter, Taotao, who was forced to live in a boarding school. Rebecca apologized for competing with Zhen Yuanyuan and admitted she had acted "mean" by making Zhen Yuanyuan see their "three-person family" because she was desperate to secure her daughter's place, willing to be a "bad person" for Taotao.
Zhen Yuanyuan, her heart shattered by Ruan Dongsheng's deception, told Rebecca that this was the last time she would discuss Ruan Dongsheng with her. From then on, Zhen Yuanyuan would have nothing to do with Ruan Dongsheng and Rebecca could continue her dream of a three-person family. Thrilled, Rebecca asked Zhen Yuanyuan not to reveal the reason for their breakup to Ruan Dongsheng, fearing he would further reject Taotao if he knew she was the cause. Zhen Yuanyuan agreed.
A heavy rain began to fall as Zhen Yuanyuan walked alone, seemingly oblivious to the downpour. Meanwhile, Ruan Dongsheng, who had prepared food, including some for his assistant Ni Hao and Director Yiren, was unable to reach Zhen Yuanyuan by phone. He decided to personally deliver the remaining food to her, only to find her drenched in the rain. Ruan Dongsheng rushed out with an umbrella, urging her to get in the car.
Zhen Yuanyuan coldly told him to leave her alone, stating they had nothing to do with each other anymore and she wouldn't give him another chance to hurt her. Perplexed, Ruan Dongsheng questioned what had happened, as everything had seemed fine just the day before. Zhen Yuanyuan, refusing to elaborate, simply said she was tired and desperately wanted to break up, insisting he respect her decision and leave with dignity.
Ruan Dongsheng, disbelieving, pressed her for the truth, reminding her of her previous declarations of affection and promises to return after dealing with her issues. Finally, Zhen Yuanyuan admitted that she had only approached him for revenge, aiming to make him fall in love with her only to discard him. She declared her purpose achieved and everything over. Ruan Dongsheng struggled to accept her words, asserting his disbelief.
As Zhen Yuanyuan walked away, Ruan Dongsheng fell silent, contemplating her harsh words. He sank into a deep depression, his face pale from the rain. Concerned, Yiren and Ni Hao visited him at home. Ruan Dongsheng claimed he was fine, but then collapsed, forcing them to help him to bed. Yiren secretly questioned Ni Hao about what happened, but Ni Hao claimed he dared not overhear the intense fight, comparing it to a dramatic breakup in a TV series.
Ni Hao suggested that Ruan Dongsheng's one-sided affection could barely be called a relationship, asserting that Zhen Yuanyuan had never truly loved him. Yiren, disturbed, urged Ni Hao to stop grieving Ruan Dongsheng further. However, Ni Hao insisted it was more important for Ruan Dongsheng to face the truth.
He pointed out that despite Ruan Dongsheng's high social status, wealth, and good looks, he had no close friends apart from them, suggesting that his personality flaws, revealed by love, were unbearable for Zhen Yuanyuan. Eavesdropping from a corner, Ruan Dongsheng overheard their conversation. He began to doubt himself, recalling his awkward, friendless middle school days, where he was unpopular unlike Xiao Nan. Ruan Dongsheng sadly concluded that he truly didn't deserve Zhen Yuanyuan.
Determined to uncover the truth, Yiren sought out Zhen Yuanyuan but was intercepted by Xiao Nan. Yiren maintained a cold demeanor towards him. Xiao Nan initially tried to explain his encounter with Rebecca, sensing Yiren was upset, but Yiren cut him off, asserting her disinterest. Xiao Nan then flirtatiously suggested she was jealous, offering a hug if she admitted it.
Yiren retorted by threatening to report him for sexual harassment to the Women's Union if he couldn't distinguish between personal feelings and professional conduct. Xiao Nan, exasperated, relented and shifted to discussing work, informing Yiren that Pioneer intended to cancel their contract with Ruan Dongsheng. Yiren was outraged, arguing that since Ruan Dongsheng was the one who had been hurt, they had no right to cancel.
Xiao Nan vehemently disagreed, calling Ruan Dongsheng a "bastard" and asserting that Ruan Dongsheng was the one at fault. Yiren retaliated with veiled insults, accusing Xiao Nan of being a womanizer who "owned the whole fish pond." Their heated argument continued, with Xiao Nan labeling Yiren as "impervious to reason" and Yiren accusing Ruan Dongsheng of setting a bad example for his company. Fuming, Yiren returned to the office, venting her frustration about Xiao Nan to Ni Hao.
She revealed that Zhen Yuanyuan's side wanted to cancel their contract, unaware that Ruan Dongsheng was listening nearby. Despite still feeling unwell, Ruan Dongsheng instructed Yiren to prepare the contract for Zhen Yuanyuan’s release, stating he would respect her decision and give her whatever she desired. Later, as a dejected Ruan Dongsheng was fishing, Yiren called him with news: Zhen Yuanyuan had voluntarily withdrawn from the World Angel competition due to "health problems."
This news, instead of worsening his mood, invigorated Ruan Dongsheng. He found it highly suspicious that Zhen Yuanyuan would abandon her lifelong dream of the World Angel competition for such a reason, especially after seemingly giving up on him at the same time. He immediately told Yiren to suspend the contract cancellation. Despite her refusal, Ruan Dongsheng persisted in trying to get Zhen Yuanyuan back.
He devised a plan to get her to return, intentionally breaking the water pipes in her apartment and damaging her bags and shoes. When Zhen Yuanyuan returned home to find the mess, she immediately demanded compensation. Ruan Dongsheng feigned poverty, complaining about recent business difficulties, funding issues, and the cost of finding a new representative if she canceled their contract.
Zhen Yuanyuan accused him of "pleading poverty" and being the kind of man she hated most, demanding to know when he would compensate her. Ruan Dongsheng, with a smirk, offered himself as payment, asking if she needed him. Zhen Yuanyuan scoffed, preferring money over unreliable people. Ruan Dongsheng then offered to not cancel their contract and increase her salary by 20% if she agreed to an extended term.
Zhen Yuanyuan refused, reiterating her intent to cancel the contract and earn her own money to buy new items later. Ruan Dongsheng challenged her, questioning her capacity to succeed after withdrawing from the World Angel competition. He pressed her about why she abandoned her lifelong dream, for which she had sacrificed so much, just for "health problems." He insisted she couldn't lie to him as she could to Jason, demanding the real reason.
Zhen Yuanyuan maintained she had simply "lost interest," but Ruan Dongsheng refused to believe she would abandon both him and her dream simultaneously. Zhen Yuanyuan concluded by saying they shouldn't be so hard on each other. Ruan Dongsheng then followed Zhen Yuanyuan to the TV studio where Rebecca had arranged a live interview for Zhen Yuanyuan, feigning kindness as repayment for Zhen Yuanyuan helping her.
Earlier, Ruan Dongsheng's assistant had informed him that Rebecca would also be present at this interview. Xiao Nan had warned Zhen Yuanyuan that Rebecca might be setting a trap, but Zhen Yuanyuan insisted on participating, believing it was her only chance to attend World Angel Fashion Week. At the studio, Ruan Dongsheng made it clear he was there to protect Zhen Yuanyuan, dismissing her attempts to tell him to take care of his "family."
Meanwhile, Rebecca, having obtained concentrated calories powder, instructed her assistant to secretly add it to Zhen Yuanyuan's water glass. Zhen Yuanyuan, unaware, drank the water during the live broadcast while discussing healthy eating habits. Her body suddenly began to change. Ruan Dongsheng, noticing her discomfort, quickly and secretly cut off the power to the studio, plunging it into darkness. In the ensuing chaos, Zhen Yuanyuan fled. Rebecca's daughter, Taotao, arrived at the studio looking for her mother.
She tried to cling to Xiao Nan, asking him to take her inside. Xiao Nan initially resisted, but after Taotao called him "Dad" and drew attention, he reluctantly agreed to bring her in. He tried to prevent her from running off, but she bit him and escaped. As Zhen Yuanyuan, now transformed, ran out of the studio, Taotao saw her and screamed, "Mom, it's a monster!" She ran to Rebecca, repeating her claims of a monster.
Rebecca, embarrassed, tried to push Taotao away. The transformed Zhen Yuanyuan bravely approached, pulling Taotao away from Rebecca and explaining that Taotao was her daughter who called any beautiful woman she saw "Mom." A staff member, mistaking Zhen Yuanyuan for a janitor, scolded her for disrupting the show. Ruan Dongsheng also rushed out to check on Zhen Yuanyuan.
Mistakenly believing Ruan Dongsheng was Taotao's father, Zhen Yuanyuan tried to hand Taotao over to him, accusing him of neglecting his "flesh and blood" and demanding he fulfill his paternal responsibilities. Ruan Dongsheng tried to explain that he was not Taotao's father, but Zhen Yuanyuan refused to listen and attempted to leave. As Ruan Dongsheng chased after her, Xiao Nan suddenly appeared from behind and knocked Ruan Dongsheng unconscious. Both Taotao and Zhen Yuanyuan angrily blamed Xiao Nan for hitting Ruan Dongsheng, with Taotao repeatedly calling Ruan Dongsheng "Dad."
