Following Bo Jinyan's instructions, Jian Yao pretends to attend a casual department event, which is actually a covert operation to identify Wang Wanwei's killer. Bo Jinyan, who has arranged for surveillance, reminds her of the risks. Believing she will be safe in a crowd, Jian Yao proceeds with the plan. Bo Jinyan provides her with a safety signal: if she feels she is in danger, she must say, "It's raining," and he will immediately intervene.

At the dinner hosted at Pei Ze's house, Jian Yao observes her colleagues, focusing on the primary suspects she and Bo Jinyan previously identified: Pei Ze and Manager Lin. During the meal, she playfully takes a picture of Pei Ze, provoking a defensive reaction from him. Later, Jian Yao excuses herself to the bathroom to search for evidence.

Guided by Bo Jinyan via an earpiece, she finds empty liquid vials in a cabinet, identical to the ones Wang Wanwei had thrown away. She also discovers a waterproof plastic bag filled with cash hidden in the toilet cistern, which Bo Jinyan immediately suspects is drug money. Her search is interrupted when Pei Ze speaks to her from outside the bathroom.

After she emerges, he engineers a power outage by shutting off the circuit breaker and pretends he cannot find his car keys, preventing her from leaving. Trapped, Jian Yao listens as Pei Ze reveals he orchestrated the entire evening to be alone with her, commenting on her resemblance to Wang Wanwei. His demeanor suddenly turns menacing, and he lunges at her. As he corners her, Jian Yao screams the code phrase, "It's raining!"

prompting Bo Jinyan to burst in and incapacitate Pei Ze with a sedative dart. Before leaving, Bo Jinyan instructs Jian Yao to tell Pei Ze that she used a taser on him. When Pei Ze awakens, he accepts Jian Yao's fabricated story. In a bizarre turn, he insists she stay and cut a birthday cake he specially ordered for her, revealing he knows it's her birthday.

As a strange apology, he gives her a lock of his hair and insists on taking her to lunch the next day. With Bo Jinyan's guidance, police interrogate the other employees. Manager Lin is confronted with phone records showing an 18-minute call between his room and Pei Ze's on the night of the murder. He confesses he knew about the drugs and intended to fire Wang Wanwei, but denies any involvement in her death.

Under pressure, Shen Yidan admits he saw Wang Wanwei enter Pei Ze's room around 1 a. m. This testimony, combined with Pei Ze’s fingerprints on the recovered drug vials, solidifies him as the prime suspect. Bo Jinyan confronts Pei Ze, who admits to controlling Wang Wanwei with drugs. However, he claims she committed suicide. Bo Jinyan refutes this, deducing that Wang Wanwei, empowered by her love for Mai Chen, had decided to confront Pei Ze and expose his drug network.

Fearing exposure, Pei Ze drugged her, placed her in the bathtub, and slit her wrists to stage a suicide. After Pei Ze is arrested, Bo Jinyan explains to Jian Yao that the case is not over. He reveals that during his last case in the U. S. involving a serial killer nicknamed "The Flower Cannibal," he encountered a psychopath with a similar profile who is still at large. Bo Jinyan believes this mastermind has been manipulating events from the shadows.

To catch him, Bo Jinyan has the police keep Pei Ze's arrest a secret, setting a trap for the true culprit to reveal himself. Shortly after, Bo Jinyan's attention is pulled to a cold case by the company chairman, who is desperate for answers about his late fiancée's death and a related "hush money" account. To solve it, Bo Jinyan decides to reconstruct that crime scene, gathering everyone involved to retrace their steps from the night of the incident.
