Fang Yuncheng observed Jiang Tianling being dismissed by Zhe Zhi and quickly informed Jiang Baiyu and others. Jiang Baiyu was not surprised, remarking that he had long known of the situation between Zhe Zhi and his younger brother. He recognized that Jiang Tianling was now heartbroken. Concerned because Jiang Tianling had never experienced such a significant setback, the group decided to search for him.
After failing to find him at Jiang Mansion, they eventually located him standing on a bridge in West City. Misinterpreting his contemplative stance, they rushed to embrace him, believing he was contemplating suicide after his rejection. Jiang Tianling clarified their misunderstanding, explaining that this particular bridge was where he first saw Zhe Zhi dance and where he first truly understood his own heart's desires. His friends offered words of comfort.
Jiang Tianling, however, interpreted their words as encouragement not to be disheartened and resolved to continue his pursuit, regardless of the challenges. Old Madam Jiang announced that the abbot of Xiangguo Temple had predicted an earthquake in Chong'an on the eighth day of August and urged everyone to take precautions. Jiang Baiyu told Shui Wuxia that if she was afraid, she could stay with him and he would protect her.
Fang Yuncheng also offered to stay with Qi Delong for company if she was scared, but she refused. Fang Yuncheng went to Lantern Boudoir to find Qi Delong’s father, Uncle Qi, helped him find the best inn to stay, and asked him to meet Qi Delong. Meanwhile, Jiang Tianling boldly entered Zhe Zhi's room at Lantern Boudoir, where she was hosting other patrons. Upon seeing him, Zhe Zhi deliberately acted more intimately with her guests to deter Jiang Tianling.
Undeterred, Jiang Tianling dramatically warned the patrons about the severity of the upcoming earthquake. His warnings successfully prompted the patrons to quickly depart. After they left, Zhe Zhi questioned his motives, but Jiang Tianling argued that they couldn't possibly know if they were an unsuitable match without truly trying. Challenged by Zhe Zhi to experience a day in her life, Jiang Tianling eagerly accepted.
The following morning, Zhe Zhi was surprised to find Jiang Tianling already outside her door, reading and sipping tea. He informed her he had been there for three "shichen" (six hours), observing her life, during which he had read three books and consumed a pot of tea. He watched her dance and pointed out a flaw in her force exertion. He explained the reason for this and offered to dance with her to demonstrate.
Later, Jiang Tianling tidied her room and thoughtfully prepared a jar of Fu Lin ointment for her, which was effective for ankle sprains. Shui Wuxia intercepted Fang Yuncheng as he was attempting to take Qi Delong to dinner at the Swan Goose.
Shui Wuxia relayed the urgent news that Seventh Senior Sister could go to Langya Pavilion later, and Qi Delong's father and Old Master Jiang were in the Council Hall, discussing marriage, with Jiang Baiyu trying to manage the situation. She instructed Qi Delong to accompany her to the Council Hall while Fang Yuncheng found a place to hide. In the Council Hall, Old Madam Jiang presented portraits of Jiang Tianling and Qi Delong to Qi Delong’s father.
He was confused by Jiang Tianling’s portrait, remarking that it clearly wasn't the young master he knew. Jiang Baiyu quickly intervened, diverting Qi Delong's father with an offer of gold and jewelry, then escorting him away. Later, Qi Delong confronted Fang Yuncheng, telling him to stop meddling in her father's affairs. Fang Yuncheng kept speaking up for her father, but Qi Delong vehemently retorted that she would rather have no father.
As Jiang Baiyu sketched and Shui Wuxia read, a powerful earthquake struck Chong'an. Jars, books, and other items tumbled, and a folding screen threatened to fall on Shui Wuxia. Jiang Baiyu swiftly shielded her, taking the brunt of the impact himself. Amidst the chaos of the earthquake, people rushed out of Jiang Mansion and Lantern Boudoir. However, Jiang Tianling pushed against the outgoing crowds at Lantern Boudoir, desperately searching for Zhe Zhi. He found her huddled in a corner, terrified.
When the shaking subsided, Jiang Tianling approached her, and Zhe Zhi immediately embraced him. After the earthquake, Jiang Baiyu and Shui Wuxia accidentally kissed, and Jiang Baiyu sustained a neck injury.
