On the eve of his wedding, Xiao Beichen celebrated with his friends at Luminous Jade. Xu Zijun congratulated him on marrying the girl he liked, wishing them sweet love and mutual respect. Mo Weiyi added a more practical wish: for them to have a baby soon. The head of Luminous Jade also raised a toast, wishing him and Miss Lin eternal love. Beichen, in turn, thanked him for his long-standing concern.

The other staff of Luminous Jade also toasted, expressing their gratitude to Beichen for taking them in and calling his wedding their biggest event. Xu Zijun jokingly complained about his own romantic misfortunes, prompting Beichen to tease him about his relationship with Xiao Shuyi and to needle Mo Weiyi about his lack of a partner. On the wedding day, dignitaries gathered to celebrate. Warlord Jin Cheng and Commander Kang Jingxiong arrived to offer their congratulations.

Xiao Haishan welcomed them, noting their presence honored his son's wedding. Jin Cheng commented on how marriage brings stability to a man and praised Beichen and Lin Hangjing as a perfect couple. Kang Jingxiong pointed out that he considered himself a "half-matchmaker" for the bride and groom. As the auspicious time arrived, guests took their seats. Xiao Beichen, looking dashing in his military uniform, watched as Lin Hangjing, resplendent in a white wedding gown, walked towards him.

During the ceremony, Beichen solemnly vowed, "I, Xiao Beichen, take you, Lin Hangjing, to be my wife." Lin Hangjing, in turn, declared, "I, Lin Hangjing, take you, Xiao Beichen, to be my husband." After they both affirmed their commitment with "I will" to the traditional vows and exchanged rings, Beichen lifted Lin Hangjing's veil and kissed her forehead. He silently vowed that one day, he would make her truly fall in love with him.

As applause erupted, Lin Hangjing looked at him and remarked that he didn't need to act so genuinely. Beichen simply responded that as Boss Jiu, he was skilled at acting. On their wedding night, as Xiao Beichen began to undress for bed, Lin Hangjing presented him with a document outlining the rules of their contracted marriage. These included prohibitions against physical contact when alone and interfering with each other's social lives.

Beichen was particularly annoyed by the tenth rule: "Sleeping on the same bed is prohibited," questioning how they were expected to sleep. Lin Hangjing explained that since they were living as husband and wife in name only, certain rules were necessary. She then took a pillow, intending to sleep on the floor, but Beichen took it from her, assertively declaring that he would sleep on the floor himself.

The next morning, Beichen awoke from the floor, clutching his back, to find clothes laid out for him on the bed by Lin Hangjing. When she re-entered the room, Beichen subtly indicated that Jin Xiang and Xiao Rong were eavesdropping outside the door and asked her to help him dress, as a wife should. Lin Hangjing reluctantly assisted, even fumbling with his shirt buttons, much to Beichen's quiet delight.

Later that morning, Xiao Beichen and Lin Hangjing participated in a traditional tea ceremony for Xiao Haishan and Madam Qi. Lin Hangjing was instructed to address Xiao Haishan as "Father" and Madam Qi as "Aunt Qi." Xiao Haishan presented Lin Hangjing with a gift for his new daughter-in-law, imparting wisdom that a "harmonious family cultivates prosperity." Beichen affectionately put his arm around Lin Hangjing, and her lack of resistance brought visible satisfaction to Xiao Haishan and Madam Qi.

The only dissenting voice was Xiao Shuyi, who loudly expressed her resentment, criticizing Lin Hangjing for causing trouble for the family and refusing to address her as "Sister-in-law." Elsewhere, Mu Zizheng was enduring harsh conditions as a laborer. Under the cover of night, he secretly sketched the layout of a nearby Japanese army camp. However, a sudden, unscheduled search by guards forced him to hastily swallow the incriminating drawing to avoid being found with "unauthorized items," which meant instant death.

He then watched in horror as another laborer was summarily executed for stealing money. Deeply shaken by the brutality, his thoughts turned to Lin Hangjing, wondering about her well-being. As Xiao Beichen's new wife, Lin Hangjing found herself drawn into social obligations. Madam Qi instructed her to join the ladies at the mahjong table, explaining that these seemingly informal games were crucial for establishing "human relations" and understanding local power dynamics.

Lin Hangjing, unfamiliar with mahjong, felt out of place as the other wives gossiped about mistresses and flaunted their expensive jewelry from Paris. Meanwhile, Beichen received an update from Xu Zijun and Mo Weiyi: they had identified a potential secret contact point for Kang Jingxiong and a mole. An individual was observed traveling fortnightly between Kang Jingxiong's residence and a place called "Knowledge Bookstore" in Beixin City.

Beichen cautioned them against making any rash moves, believing the bookstore owner was "in the know" and should not be alerted, although Mo Weiyi noted the owner's unusual vigilance regarding the second-floor stack room. Back at the Xiao residence, Lin Hangjing was helping Beiyi retrieve a shuttlecock from a high spot when she lost her footing. Xiao Beichen, arriving just in time, caught her before she could fall, then carried her back to her room.

Discovering her ankle was swollen, he dismissed Jin Xiang and personally applied medicinal liquor, massaging it to help it heal. Lin Hangjing met with her friend Chengyu, who had recently returned from studying abroad. Chengyu playfully recalled their college days as "famous rivals" and asked about her new marital life. Lin Hangjing confided that she had to quit her job at Pioneer News due to family concerns after her marriage, leaving her feeling idle at home despite writing "short essays."

Chengyu then revealed her project: establishing a "school for common girls" in Beixin City to provide education for needy girls. She invited Lin Hangjing to be a Chinese teacher. Hesitant, Lin Hangjing promised to consult her family first. Upon returning home, Lin Hangjing presented the idea to Xiao Haishan and Madam Qi. Xiao Haishan acknowledged her progressive views on women's education but reminded her that her actions as a Xiao family daughter-in-law would reflect on their public image.

Madam Qi initially found the initiative "meaningful" and "a charity thing for merits," but a subtle prompt from Xiao Haishan quickly led her to pivot, emphasizing that the "top priority" for the newlyweds was to "have a baby soon." Xiao Beichen, agreeing with both his father and Madam Qi, received a sharp pinch from an exasperated Lin Hangjing. The matter was temporarily shelved.

That night, a frustrated Lin Hangjing continued writing, only for Beichen to embrace her from behind, turn off the light, and playfully threaten her to get to bed if she didn't want him to "force" the issue. The following morning, Beichen advocated for Lin Hangjing's cause, arguing to Xiao Haishan and Madam Qi that her teaching at the girls' school, especially for needy children, would showcase the Xiao family's progressive stance and help them "win support" from the public.

Madam Qi seconded his opinion. Xiao Haishan eventually relented, but reiterated that while she could teach, having grandchildren was an absolute priority and must not be delayed. Meanwhile, Mo Weiyi and Xu Zijun executed their plan at the Knowledge Bookstore. Xu Zijun created a diversion downstairs, asking the owner to find an English edition of "The Count of Monte Cristo" to keep him occupied.

While the owner was distracted, Mo Weiyi infiltrated the second-floor stack room, successfully locating an encrypted telegram. As Xu Zijun struggled to prolong the diversion, Mo Weiyi escaped by jumping out of a second-story window. Separately, as Lin Hangjing and Chengyu were returning from shopping, they encountered Miss Jiaman, a celebrity renowned among overseas students for her studies in France and roles in French films. While Jiaman was signing autographs, Lin Hangjing observed a man subtly stealing something from her.

Lin Hangjing immediately raised the alarm, causing the thief to flee. After the stolen item was retrieved, Miss Jiaman expressed her gratitude and, surprised to learn they were teachers at the girls' school, offered them a ride back.
