Jiang Qiong, a divorce lawyer, struggled to maintain her own marriage. She expressed her anguish to Chen Ran, lamenting how she helped others divide assets, clarify stakes, and fight for child custody, yet couldn't protect her own family, which was now in complete shambles. She feared public criticism and the negative impact on her child and career. Crying, she asked Chen Ran to delete sensitive content from her phone.

Witnessing Jiang Qiong's plight solidified Chen Ran's decision to leave her own marriage. She reflected on how people stubbornly adhere to societal expectations of family roles rather than pursuing their true happiness. Chen Ran packed her belongings, symbolically leaving her wedding ring in a prominent spot, and moved into her brother Chen Ke's place.

She apologized to Chen Ke for imposing on him, admitting she hadn't yet found a way to tell their mother and was concerned about how sensitive Yangyang would react. Chen Ke reassured her, offering his full support and asserting that Jian Peiran losing her was the greatest loss of his life. Jian Peiran called Chen Ran, desperately asking her to return so they could talk face-to-face. He admitted his mistakes and pleaded for another chance.

Chen Ran, however, was resolute, stating that a marriage without trust could not be sustained. She advised him to hire a lawyer and arrange a time to resolve their divorce as soon as possible. Jian Peiran asked if it had to be "such a scene." Later, at Yangyang's school, Jian Peiran's mother confronted Chen Ran. She initially apologized but quickly became aggressive, criticizing Chen Ran's age and her chances of remarrying.

She then tried to force Yangyang to come home with her, claiming Yangyang’s surname was Jian, not Chen. Chen Ke stepped in to protect his sister but was violently pushed to the ground by Jian Peiran. After Jian Peiran left with Yangyang, Chen Ran tended to Chen Ke's injuries. Chen Ke, deeply understanding Yangyang's situation, wisely remarked that "a good separation might be better than staying together in a toxic way" for a child.

When Yangyang later returned to Chen Ran, she shared a story about her friends resolving a dispute over lollipops, innocently asking if her parents could also reconcile. Chen Ran explained that her and her father's problems were far more complex and apologized for making Yangyang witness such a scene, promising it would not happen again. Yangyang then asked if her father had made a major mistake that Chen Ran simply couldn't forgive.

Chen Ran confided in her mother, Qian Qiuqing, about her decision to divorce Jian Peiran. To Chen Ran's surprise, her mother was fully supportive. Qian Qiuqing dismissed common reasons for divorce, such as incompatibility or infidelity, and assured Chen Ran that she would stand by her decision, even if the case went to court.

Qian Qiuqing urged Chen Ran to prioritize her own feelings and secure custody of Yangyang, emphasizing that there was no need to maintain a broken marriage for the sake of others. She then encouraged Chen Ran to embrace a new beginning, suggesting she hire personal trainers to get in shape and proudly declaring that "Qian Qiuqing's daughter, even after divorce, is still in demand." Meanwhile, Song Xiu met Li Gongming for dinner.

Li Gongming commended Song Xiu's excellent work, noting his clear thinking and attention to detail. During their conversation, Li Gongming took some medicine for a headache, which Song Xiu discretely recognized. Upon later research, Song Xiu discovered Li Gongming was suffering from a brain tumor. Deeply saddened, Song Xiu drank by himself in his apartment complex, tears streaming down his face. Xu Jie found him there and silently stayed by his side before approaching.

Burdened by guilt over Chengtai's unethical tactics against Mingtang, Song Xiu conveyed to Xu Jie his wish for her to win the Lianchuang case, stressing its importance for Li Gongming. Xu Jie then confessed to Song Xiu the reason for her deep personal involvement in the Lianchuang case: Sun Jian, who tragically committed suicide by jumping from the Lianchuang building, had purchased the problematic financial product through her when she worked at a financial company in Qing'an.

She felt immense guilt and declared that taking on this case was not just for Mingtang but also for herself. Song Xiu observed that Xu Jie had changed, to which she asked if he liked it. Driven by a desire for justice and advancement, Song Xiu confronted director Huang Yaoqing about his exclusion from the Lianchuang case.

He demanded a senior partner position as a condition for his participation, asserting his confidence in winning the case and drawing a comparison to Sun Zhewei, who joined Chengtai as a senior partner. Xu Jie traveled to Qing'an to visit Sun Jian's parents. She openly admitted that she was the one who recommended the Lianchuang financial product to their son.

Sun Jian’s parents were furious, verbally and physically attacking Xu Jie, blaming Chen Wenguang for their son's death and accusing her of being complicit. They ordered her out of their house. Later, Song Xiu and Sun Zhewei arrived at Sun Jian's parents' home, aiming to secure Hong Li’s signature on a settlement agreement that her husband, Sun Cailu, had already signed with Chengtai.

Hong Li was outraged, accusing Sun Cailu of betrayal and declaring that no amount of money could compensate for her son's life; she wanted justice. Sun Cailu tried to reason, arguing that the settlement offered more compensation than they would likely get by pursuing a lawsuit. Sun Zhewei warned Hong Li that if she cooperated with Mingtang, she would face massive compensation claims for breaching the existing agreement.

He argued that Chen Wenguang, not Lianchuang, was the one directly responsible for their son’s death and that Lianchuang was the only entity able to offer them compensation. Despite the initial rejection, Xu Jie, still in Qing'an, met with Song Xiu. She told him that after seeing Sun Jian's parents, she felt a sense of relief, having finally confronted her guilt. Song Xiu reassured her, reminding her that Luo Runnian was the sole party truly responsible for the tragic outcome and that she should not place such heavy blame on herself.
