Lady of Law Episode 29 Recap
> Lady of Law Recap
Xu Jie, posing as a potential romantic interest, met Xie Jing at a restaurant. Xie Jing, clearly pleased with Xu Jie's appearance, initially believed they were kindred spirits. Xu Jie, however, quickly revealed her identity as a lawyer, turning the conversation to Wen Ya's case. She accused Xie Jing of illegally treating Wen Ya at a hotel on March 7th and administering medication without a medical license.
Xu Jie backed her accusation with evidence, stating she had confirmed his lack of a national medical license and obtained records from his local neighborhood office. When Xie Jing threatened to call the police, Xu Jie countered by offering him a chance: provide information about the leader and structure of his emotional fraud organization, and she might consider letting him off.
Back at the office, Bai Ning expressed her sadness to Xiao He over Wen Ya's current state, remembering her as a beautiful and academically outstanding "perfect girl" who many boys pursued. Xiao He commented that these perpetrators specifically prey on pure-hearted women unaware of worldly dangers. Bai Ning then told Xiao He that to defeat the enemy, they needed to understand their crimes better. She announced she was sending him on a mission, giving him medicine for the changing weather.
Xiao He initially resisted, feeling insulted that he looked like the type for such a mission and worrying about psychological distortion. However, Bai Ning reassured him that he was the least likely person to be brainwashed and might even reform the scammers. Xu Jie met up with her friend, who had also brought along her partner.
Her friend criticized Xu Jie for being hung up on Song Xiu after letting go of her six-year relationship with Sun Zhewei, even claiming Sun Zhewei had changed. When Song Xiu called, Xu Jie's friend immediately hung up, telling Xu Jie to let him "stew in the cold palace" longer, stating such actions were unforgivable and would happen again. Xu Jie seemed unaware of what her friend was implying, asking "What kind of thing?" .
Later, Song Xiu, unable to reach Xu Jie, found his calls going to voicemail. Driving alone, he wistfully recalled happier times when Xu Jie sat in his passenger seat. He remembered their playful banter about his driving and a deep conversation about finding one's other half, highlighting their once harmonious connection. Xiao He, wearing glasses as part of his disguise, gained entry to an "emotional deception" lecture by presenting an invitation.
The instructor taught techniques like maintaining an "optimal distance" to "gain their attention" and "conquer women" by concentrating "energy and resources in a short period," emphasizing "never thinking about responsibility." When questioned about his presence, Xiao He cleverly named a fictional contact, "Mike, the star rider of Moni Club," which was recognized by the staff, allowing him to exchange WeChat details with two other students.
Later at a mall, Xiao He observed one of these students successfully approach a girl and obtain her WeChat by applying the taught techniques. When Xiao He questioned if he had ever genuinely liked a girl, the student scoffed, claiming that "genuine liking" was a myth and that all women were only interested in "mansions, luxury cars, and high-status personas" displayed on social media, concluding that both deceivers and deceived were "despicable."
Xiao He was visibly disgusted by this cynical view of relationships. Bai Ning reviewed Xiao He's undercover recordings, expressing shock at how people turned love into a "bargaining chip" with "dirty tactics." She admitted she now understood why Wen Ya fell victim, acknowledging that sophisticated, organized training makes it "hard to escape their clutches."
Xiao He, however, told Bai Ning that she was an exception, explaining that she was immune because she lacked time and her "gate to accepting love" was "closed." Liu Fang arrived to collect evidence for Xu Jie, and after a brief, playful exchange with Xiao He, asked Bai Ning for an update on Xu Jie and Song Xiu. Bai Ning confessed she couldn't tell their relationship status as Xu Jie was "strong-willed and expressionless."
Chen Ran visited Jian Peiran's dorm, initially expecting a mess but found it surprisingly tidy with clothes neatly folded, immediately suspecting "someone else did it," especially noticing "pink items." She pressed him about his return to Jinghai, clearly upset when he indicated it would be a while.
Later, Chen Ran confided in Xu Jie via phone about her discovery, to which Xu Jie advised her to directly confront Jian Peiran, stating that "some things need to be brought into the open to resolve the issues." That evening, Chen Ran and Jian Peiran hosted Damao for dinner, supposedly to thank her for saving Jian Peiran's life. Chen Ran presented Damao with an expensive gift.
During the meal, Chen Ran subtly advised Damao not to "take the wrong path" in her promising career. She then pointedly told Jian Peiran that his room had "too much pink stuff" that "looks awkward," suggesting they buy new, different-colored items, causing Damao's expression to visibly change. As Chen Ran prepared to leave, Jian Peiran asked her to stay longer, but she cited work and their child, Yangyang. Chen Ran then expressed her dislike for Damao to Jian Peiran.
He dismissed Damao as "just a young girl" and swore to Chen Ran, in a joking manner, that she could sentence him to "life imprisonment" if he ever betrayed her with Damao. Bai Ning visited Wen Ya and her mother. Wen Ya's mother expressed gratitude for Bai Ning's frequent visits, noting that Wen Ya's condition had significantly improved, and she was starting to engage with people again.
Bai Ning then informed Wen Ya that her team had decided to "file a lawsuit against Xie Jing and his organization" and presented a document for Wen Ya to sign, which she did. During a walk, Bai Ning reminisced about their school days, including a sexist dean whose remarks inspired Bai Ning to pursue law.
Wen Ya, however, confided in Bai Ning, revealing she believed Xie Jing would marry her and never hurt her, and that after their breakup, she "tried cutting her wrists, taking pills" as she didn't know "why I should keep living." Bai Ning reassured Wen Ya that it wasn't her fault, urging her to view it as a bad dream and focus on loving herself and her family.
Despite this, Wen Ya still expressed that she "really didn't want him to go to jail," to which Bai Ning firmly stated that only those who truly loved her were worth grieving for, and that Wen Ya should leave the legal matters to her and the law. Bai Ning visited Xu Jie, informing her that Wen Ya's condition had significantly improved, and although the class action lawsuit would be protracted, getting the victims to file was already a victory.
Bai Ning then apologized to Xu Jie for the previous photo incident, admitting her fault and that Xu Jie's presence had created "different pressures" that ultimately spurred her own growth. Xu Jie, however, downplayed it, saying she had "long forgotten about it." The conversation took a turn when Xu Jie praised Bai Ning, then mused that if Chen Ran had Bai Ning's drive, she would be more successful.
Bai Ning retorted by implying Chen Ran's success was due to her connections. Xu Jie strongly defended Chen Ran, stating that Bai Ning "really didn't understand Chen Ran" and wouldn't want her life. Bai Ning then shifted her tone, expressing admiration for Chen Ran having Xu Jie as a partner and hoping for more collaborations to "share client resources."
Xu Jie saw through this, directly asking if Bai Ning's intentions were "about making partner," to which Bai Ning simply asked, "Is that not allowed?" The two parted ways unhappily. Mingtang Law Firm was in a flurry preparing for its 30th-anniversary celebration, made more chaotic by a recent resignation. Chen Ran arrived with Chen Ke, who was starting his internship.
Li Gongming welcomed Chen Ke, emphasizing that Mingtang was Chen Wenguang's legacy and that Chen Ke would need to establish himself independently. He assigned Chen Ke to Chen Ran's second team, a placement Chen Ke happily accepted. Li Gongming noted that Chen Ke and Chen Ran working together symbolized a "continuation of Old Chen's legacy." Meanwhile, Huang Yaoqing, the director of Chengtai, arrived with flowers to congratulate Mingtang, but his true intention was to discuss a potential merger.
He first encountered Chen Ke, apologizing for any past "neglect" when Chen Ke worked at Chengtai, claiming ignorance of his connection to "Old Chen," and encouraging him not to disappoint his father's life's work. Huang Yaoqing then met with Li Gongming and Tang Ying, proposing that their two long-time competing firms in Jinghai should merge to achieve "better future development," "brand recognition," and "market dominance," offering to retain Li Gongming and Tang Ying as founders and senior partners.
He highlighted Mingtang's "longest history" as a valuable asset that Chengtai lacked, and stated his willingness to "spend money" to achieve the merger. Li Gongming remained noncommittal, simply advising Huang Yaoqing to "consider it." Tang Ying, observing the interaction, was visibly confused by Li Gongming's stance.
Later, Tang Ying remarked to Chen Ran that if her mother knew Chen Ke had joined Mingtang, she would be thrilled, playfully teasing Chen Ran about her principled stance despite her mother's efforts to secure family assets. Suddenly, both Xu Jie and Chen Ran received urgent phone calls, indicating separate incidents had occurred at Shihao Hotel and Victory Group, respectively.
