Xu Nuo directly proposed marriage to Peng Yuan. However, Peng Yuan responded cautiously, suggesting it was too hasty and that marriage required careful planning and a formal proposal. He assured her they would get married sooner or later, but Xu Nuo was visibly disappointed by his evasiveness. Later, as Peng Yuan dropped Xu Nuo home, he asked to spend more time with her. Just then, Cong Shan called him.
Xu Nuo, trying to appear understanding, told Peng Yuan to go handle his work. Peng Yuan then proposed staying at Xu Nuo's place for the night after work. Angered, Xu Nuo accused him of treating her home like a hotel and herself as someone he could come and go from as he pleased. Their argument escalated, with Xu Nuo admitting she resisted being with him and retracting her marriage proposal, asking if he was satisfied.
Alone and upset, Xu Nuo received a call from her friend Shi Ran, who inquired about Peng Yuan's visit and mentioned seeing Zhao Jin earlier. Zhao Jin, upon seeing the message, made an urgent excuse to his colleagues and left his dinner. Meanwhile, Peng Yuan also sent a message to Xu Nuo, which she ignored. Xu Nuo then headed to the pet hospital to meet Zhao Jin. She found him already changed out of his uniform. She made a flimsy excuse about needing to buy more cat food for Momo, to which Zhao Jin playfully noted Momo's rapidly changing tastes.
They shared an awkward exchange about their unromantic natures, realizing their usual easy banter was gone. During this time, Peng Yuan's colleagues at his dinner encouraged him to call Xu Nuo. He called her while she was still with Zhao Jin outside the pet hospital, where the noise of nearby construction created a distracting backdrop. Peng Yuan, slightly tipsy, expressed how much he missed her and invited her to join them or for him to come over.
Xu Nuo, despite Zhao Jin’s subtle prompt to take the call inside, firmly declined, feigning extreme tiredness and claiming she was going to sleep. Peng Yuan reluctantly accepted her refusal. Later, Zhao Jin drove Xu Nuo home. They had a heartfelt conversation where Zhao Jin apologized for breaking their "friends only" pact and for appearing to blame her. Xu Nuo's mother confessed her loneliness and offered to help him repay his debts if he genuinely reformed, hoping for reconciliation. When Xu Nuo visited her mother, her mother immediately pressured her about marrying Peng Yuan, citing the miseries of growing old alone and expressing regret over her own divorce. She then floated the idea of remarrying Xu Nuo’s father, believing their familiarity would be beneficial.
Xu Nuo questioned her mother's views on marriage, asking what kind of person she should marry. Her mother, growing suspicious, asked if Xu Nuo was having second thoughts about Peng Yuan. Xu Nuo expressed her belief that the human heart is uncontrollable and constantly changing, questioning who could guarantee lifelong love. Her mother, frustrated, reiterated that Xu Nuo's quick marriage was the greatest help she could offer.
Xu Nuo then asked her mother if she genuinely wanted to remarry her father. Her mother avoided the question and instead pressed Xu Nuo about marrying Peng Yuan, leading to her mother feeling unappreciated and calling Xu Nuo unfilial. Separately, Shi Ran and Xu Nuo discussed Xu Nuo's ten-year relationship with Peng Yuan. Shi Ran expressed her concern, stating she didn't want to see their long relationship end. Xu Nuo repeated her mother’s sentiment about the heart being uncontrollable.
Shi Ran then jokingly asked Xu Nuo who she would spend Valentine's Day with, offering for them to spend it together due to a burst water pipe at her apartment. Later, Ms. Wang from the bridal shop approached them, explaining that several couples had unexpectedly broken up, leaving her without models for the upcoming Spring Night Exhibition. She asked Xu Nuo and Shi Ran to wear wedding dresses for the event.
Shi Ran enthusiastically agreed and promised to bring male guests to help. Zhao Jin informed his colleague that he would work the night shift on Valentine's Day, joking that it was a safe way to avoid dates. Simultaneously, Peng Yuan and Cong Shan were at a business dinner with Peng Yuan's father and other associates.
Cong Shan subtly confronted Peng Yuan about needing his permission for financial statements and then found a ring, questioning him about its purpose and when he planned to break up with Xu Nuo. Peng Yuan’s father praised Peng Yuan and spoke of promoting him to manager, a suggestion Cong Shan supported.
The group also discussed Valentine's Day plans for Peng Yuan and Cong Shan, with the father recalling Peng Yuan's past as a band singer, a career path he had discouraged for the sake of his son’s business future.
