One evening, Peng Yuan attempted to arrange dinner, first inviting Cong Shan, who claimed to be busy, then his girlfriend Xu Nuo, who also said she had no time. Left with no plans, Peng Yuan joined his boxing club colleagues for dinner. As the conversation turned to his relationship with Xu Nuo and he grew slightly inebriated, Peng Yuan decided to go to Xu Nuo's house.
Coincidentally, Zhao Jin was scheduled to deliver a cat from his sister to Shi Ran, who had expressed interest in adopting one. Shi Ran had given Zhao Jin Xu Nuo’s address. Zhao Jin drove Peng Yuan to Xu Nuo’s home. Upon their arrival, Xu Nuo, to avoid Peng Yuan staying over, told him that Shi Ran was staying at her place and it would be inconvenient. Peng Yuan reluctantly accepted her explanation.
However, as Peng Yuan and Zhao Jin were leaving, they saw Shi Ran exiting Xu Nuo's apartment building, carrying the cat Zhao Jin had just delivered, and stating, "I'm going home, I'm leaving." This unexpected sight confirmed Xu Nuo's lie, immediately raising doubts in Peng Yuan's mind about her. Alone after Peng Yuan left, Xu Nuo called Zhao Jin under the pretext of discussing the cat.
During their phone conversation, Zhao Jin confronted her playfully, saying, "I want to say you lied again." They bantered, with Zhao Jin asserting, "I'm actually quite interesting," and Xu Nuo responding with mild disagreement. Their exchange was filled with unspoken affection, each hesitant to fully express their true feelings. Meanwhile, Xu Nuo's mother, a busy owner of a laundry shop, received sympathy from old customers who encouraged her to find a helper.
Elsewhere, Zhao Jin's sister was discharged from the hospital, and the family enjoyed a warm meal together. Zhao Jin's father proudly announced he had stopped drinking, which pleased Zhao Jin. Before his father left, he subtly inquired about Zhao Jin's love life. Later, Shi Ran unexpectedly saw Zhao Jin in her apartment building. Realizing he lived upstairs from her, she connected this to Xu Nuo's recent unusual behavior and confronted Xu Nuo at work.
Shi Ran accused Xu Nuo of hiding secrets. Xu Nuo tried to dismiss their encounter as a coincidence, but Shi Ran saw through it, realizing Xu Nuo's recent concern for the cat, Momo, was linked to Zhao Jin. Xu Nuo finally admitted that she and Zhao Jin had discussed their situation and agreed to remain "only true ordinary friends." Shi Ran, sensing the underlying feelings, warned Xu Nuo, "You're in trouble. You'll get into big trouble this time.
I won't care about you anymore." Zhao Jin had dinner with a colleague, who expressed insecurity about dating due to his financial situation, lacking a car or house. Zhao Jin then spoke of his own feelings for someone, hinting that the relationship was "almost ending" before it even truly began because the "process is a bit difficult," suggesting he was thinking of Xu Nuo.
During dinner with Shi Ran and another friend, Shi Ran was distracted, happily texting on her phone. After dinner, as Xu Nuo left, Zhao Jin called her. He was standing across the street, having spotted her. He expressed his desire to hear her voice. Xu Nuo, anxious about their proximity, cautioned him to keep his distance. Zhao Jin reassured her, "We're friends. Don't worry, I won't cross the line."
Xu Nuo confessed she felt depressed, uncertain of the boundaries of their friendship, and asked him not to come closer to avoid complicating their relationship further. Xu Nuo's mother learned that Peng Yuan's mother was going through a divorce. The two mothers met for drinks, reminiscing about past decisions.
Xu Nuo's mother, concerned about her daughter and Peng Yuan, urged Peng Yuan's mother to press their children to marry quickly, fearing they were being influenced by her friend's divorce and delaying their own commitment. Xu Nuo went to Peng Yuan's company, wanting to ask what he had to tell her. Peng Yuan was visibly excited by her rare visit. He suggested they discuss things over dinner.
Meanwhile, Zhao Jin, drinking with his friend Dahao, confessed his feelings for a "good woman," admitting the path ahead was challenging and implying their relationship might end. Yet, he expressed a desire to act on his feelings for once, against all obstacles. Later, Peng Yuan arrived at Xu Nuo's workplace, the bridal shop, to surprise her. Just then, Zhao Jin called Xu Nuo; he was also outside the bridal shop and saw Peng Yuan.
Zhao Jin, frustrated by Xu Nuo's continued evasiveness, asked, "What are you hiding from? Did something happened between us?" He challenged her, stating that if they were truly just friends, she shouldn't hide from Peng Yuan. He warned her that if she continued to hide, he would tell Peng Yuan himself, then pressed her, "If I want to do something with you, are you willing?"
Xu Nuo, caught in the tense situation, asked Zhao Jin not to come closer, fearing that if he did, their friendship would be irreversibly broken. Peng Yuan then joined Xu Nuo, and they left together in his car. As they drove away, they spotted Zhao Jin again. Peng Yuan then asked Xu Nuo if Zhao Jin knew where she worked.
