Wu Zhu brought out the box Ye Qingmei had left and showed Fan Ruoruo the sniper rifle inside. Knowing Fan Ruoruo cared most about Fan Xian, he wanted her to learn to use it to protect him at a critical moment. Wu Zhu asked her to keep this secret from Fan Xian. Fan Ruoruo agreed readily, and Wu Zhu said he would come teach her after repairing the rifle. Fan Ruoruo immediately began practicing her aim without delay.

Fan Xian and Fan Sizhe worked together to persuade the shop owners to buy treasury bonds and invited them to stay the night at Mount Dazhong. The owners couldn’t make decisions themselves and sent carrier pigeons overnight to inform their backers in the capital. Fan Sizhe intercepted one and learned they had reported the matter to the capital. He himself had only a vague understanding of treasury bonds and didn’t know if they were legal.

The news of Fan Xian issuing treasury bonds spread throughout the capital overnight. Qing Di heard about it late at night and summoned Fan Jian, Chen Pingping, Li Chengqian, and Li Chengze to the palace. Fan Jian believed that Fan Xian’s act of distributing the treasury deficit among the shops violated Southern Qing’s laws and asked Chen Pingping to send someone to bring Fan Xian back. Then he went to resign to Qing Di and retire to Danzhou.

Li Chengqian defended Fan Xian, saying he had never heard of treasury bonds and that Southern Qing’s laws had no explicit articles against them. Qing Di did not appear in person but had Eunuch Hou lead Fan Jian, Chen Pingping, Li Chengqian, and Li Chengze to the imperial garden to move flowers. Though confused, they dared not resist. The garden was filled with chrysanthemums, and Qing Di wanted them all potted for the triennial Chrysanthemum Appreciation Festival.

Li Chengqian, Li Chengze, and Fan Jian were all accustomed to comfort and were exhausted after moving just a few pots. Eunuch Hou revealed that this year’s Chrysanthemum Festival would be held earlier, after Fan Xian’s return from Cangshan. Li Chengze felt indignant that Qing Di cared more about Fan Xian than the festival. Chen Pingping, unable to work because of his wheelchair, kept them company and observed their surroundings.

He concluded that Qing Di was secretly watching them from behind a window. Sure enough, Qing Di was monitoring their every move. When Fan Xian returned to his residence, he discovered that the box he had hidden under the bed was missing. Few people knew about it, and he couldn’t guess who had stolen it. Suddenly, Wang Qinian saw someone eavesdropping outside and shouted. Fan Xian opened the door and saw a shadow leap onto the roof and flee.

Thinking it was the thief, he immediately gave chase. The man in black was highly skilled, and Fan Xian pursued him through the woods. Then he saw another person also chasing the man in black—Jing Ge and the Black Knights blocked all three of them. Fan Xian finally recognized the man in black as Shadow, and the pursuer was his teacher, Fei Jie. Fei Jie hadn’t seen Fan Xian in a long time and was overwhelmed with emotion.

They embraced tightly, unable to put their feelings into words. Shadow had followed Fan Xian to Cangshan, eager to spar with Wu Zhu. Suspecting that Wu Zhu had stolen the box, he also wanted to test Fan Xian, who had inherited Wu Zhu’s skills. Fei Jie firmly opposed this and said if Shadow dared hurt Fan Xian, he would poison him to death. Unable to defy Fei Jie, Shadow left disappointed.

Fei Jie had gone to Jiangnan to investigate a serial murder case. From various clues, he deduced that the killer was a Great Grandmaster-level figure who imitated Wu Zhu’s techniques to frame him. Fei Jie planned to return to the capital to investigate thoroughly. Before leaving, he gave Fan Xian pills he had developed to treat tuberculosis, hoping that Fan Xian and Lin Wan'er would soon have a child for him to teach. Fan Xian returned to find Wu Zhu waiting.

Wu Zhu took him to retrieve three bullets left by Ye Qingmei and revealed a secret: both he and Ye Qingmei came from the Temple, which sends agents to destroy anything that exceeds this world’s limits. Though Fan Xian lived in this era, he was a logical anomaly. Wu Zhu instructed him to go to Jiangnan to repair the gun at the Three Workshops and use the three bullets to protect his life.

The Three Workshops were the foundation of the treasury, where all novel and unique items originated. They were now controlled by the Ming family in Jiangnan, who had grown rich from them and were loyal to Li Yunrui. Fan Xian immediately decided to reclaim the Three Workshops for Ye Qingmei.

He was curious why she hadn’t stored the gun and bullets together, but Wu Zhu only cared about repairing the gun to deal with the Great Grandmaster and had no interest in anything else. Qing Di sent someone to summon Fan Xian back to the capital for the Chrysanthemum Festival. Seeing how much Qing Di valued Fan Xian, the shop owners believed his treasury bonds would be profitable and rushed to buy them.

The two million taels of treasury bonds quickly sold out. Yet Fan Xian didn’t feel happy—despite his careful preparations yielding no results, everything changed with just a word from Qing Di. The shop owners didn’t understand the benefits of the bonds; they simply had confidence in the state’s wealth. Fan Xian originally wanted to enjoy Cangshan with Lin Wan'er, but now had to return for the festival. He felt regretful, but Lin Wan'er consoled him.

Fan Xian planned to take Lin Wan'er to Jiangnan after the festival to trace Ye Qingmei’s legacy. Lin Wan'er agreed readily. Standing on the mountaintop, Fei Jie felt deeply gratified seeing Fan Xian and Lin Wan'er in love. Suddenly, someone attacked him from behind, knocking him to the ground. Seeing the treasury bonds sell out quickly, Fan Sizhe had a bold idea—to open a shop in Northern Qi specializing in silver exchange. Fan Xian supported his plan.

As the group left Cangshan for the capital, Jing Ge and the Black Knights escorted them. Palace attendant Gong Dian soon arrived with the imperial guards and declared he had orders to take Fan Xian alone. Fan Xian confirmed Qing Di’s verbal command and followed Gong Dian to the Hanging Temple. The Hanging Temple was built atop a mountain, accessible only by a winding, treacherous path. It was a strategically defensible royal retreat.

Gong Dian instructed the guards to unload the chrysanthemums from their horses so that Fan Xian could personally deliver them to the temple.
