A-Jiang is actually Zhuo Lanjiang, the legendary young master of Silver Rain Tower. Zhuo Lanjiang repeatedly pressed if he was the one who killed Yang Caiwei. He knew full well that this person was being blackmailed. Seeing this, Qingdi quickly stepped forward, saying she was worried the matter would escalate and affect the Four Great Clans; she was thinking for their sake. Zhuo Lanjiang ignored her and said he had some personal matters to discuss with Pan Yue.

When the emperor arrived suddenly, they each stepped forward, claiming responsibility to protect the other. The emperor laughed and betrothed them, forming the union of the Pan and Yang families.

Zhuo Lanjiang had someone prepare a few things—he wanted to ensure Yang Caiwei could never disappear from his world. Yang Caiwei and Pan Yue found a case related to the Lantern Festival—a long-unsolved mystery in Heyang. Pan Yue summoned those involved in the original investigation for questioning. Zhuo Lanjiang arrived at the county office with numerous gifts—not to see Pan Yue, but to propose marriage to Yang Caiwei. She was stunned. Pan Yue watched with amusement.

Yang Caiwei had no choice but to say they should get to know each other better first. Zhuo Lanjiang hoped to help Yang Caiwei find the real culprit. The two of them spoke in riddles in front of Pan Yue. Before leaving, he asked Yang Caiwei to reconsider his sincere intentions. The summer solstice was just half a month away. Heyang used to hold a Lantern Festival every year, but the event was canceled after a case five years ago.

Pan Yue wanted to reopen the investigation and give the people closure. Every year during the festival, someone died. In the third year, three people died. The townsfolk believed it was not the work of humans but a bloodthirsty evil flood dragon. Pan Yue dismissed such nonsense and ordered a thorough investigation. Yang Caiwei went to see the daughter of the first victim. Zhuo Lanjiang had a carriage arranged for her. On the way, Yang Caiwei told him about switching faces with Shangguan Zhi.
