Qi Chunjiao, a former javelin thrower, faced retirement due to a fractured arm. Driven by her father's last wish for her to stand on the podium, she wanted to compete despite her injury. However, Dr. Ruan informed her that her bone had not healed well and would require a long rehabilitation period, which would likely end her career in throwing events.

Her mother, Auntie Qi, insisted she return to training immediately, stressing that an athlete's golden years are few and she couldn't afford delays. She pressured Dr. Ruan to issue a health certificate allowing Chunjiao to return to training. Dr. Ruan stated he could not issue the certificate, and Chunjiao urged her mother not to make it difficult for him, confirming her decision to retire. Auntie Qi reacted with anger, asking how disappointed her father would be.

Chunjiao retorted that her father was gone and she should stop using his wish to manipulate her. During their heated argument, a plaque above the door fell. Chunjiao quickly pushed her mother aside but was struck herself. When she awoke, Qi Chunjiao found herself dressed in unfamiliar ancient clothing, surrounded by crying people. Initially disoriented, she thought she was on a film set and asked a maid, Dongxi, for her phone to call her mother.

Dongxi had never heard of a phone. Seeing the unfamiliar surroundings and clothing, Chunjiao became even more confused. Dongxi explained that they were attending her funeral; the doctor had pronounced her dead, and they had dressed her for burial. To their astonishment, she suddenly sat up in the coffin. Her father, Gu Xingwu, approached, expressing relief but confused by her lack of recognition, believing she was a stranger impersonating his dead daughter.

Gu Qingqiao, as she was now called, gradually realized she had transmigrated to ancient times. Uncomfortable in the heavy ancient attire, she changed clothes and attempted to leave the mansion, only to find numerous people blocking her path. She sternly ordered them to let her pass. Once on the main street, she observed the absence of modern technology like cameras, confirming her transmigration into the body of Gu Qingqiao.

She searched the mansion for a "time tunnel," hoping to find a way back to her original world. Missing modern comforts like beer and barbecue, she decided to make her own with Dongxi in the courtyard. She noticed their large courtyard was strangely empty. Dongxi explained that Gu Qingqiao's previous poor health led Gu Xingwu to instruct servants to stay away to ensure quiet recovery.

Now, after her sudden resurrection and apparent memory loss, people were afraid and avoided her, believing she was strange or foolish. Gu Qingqiao understood they thought she was crazy. The butler announced that Gu Xingwu had suddenly fainted. Gu Qingqiao, reacting instinctively with modern knowledge, asked for a doctor and mentioned calling emergency services before rushing to her father's side. A doctor examined Gu Xingwu, diagnosing him with weakness due to stress and requiring rest.

Gu Xingwu revealed he had made a great vow for Gu Qingqiao's health and now that she was well, he needed to fulfill it. Seeing his condition, Gu Qingqiao offered to go to Shangqing Temple on his behalf. Traveling to the temple, Gu Qingqiao learned that offering the first incense on the first day of the lunar month was particularly effective.

Determined to secure it, she hoped this place where she was brought back to life might also hold the key to returning home. While staying at the temple inn, she witnessed a dramatic chase involving a fugitive. Excited by the sight of real "flying skills," she watched, but the fugitive threw a tile at her. Annoyed, she retaliated by throwing a bronze mirror, hitting the fugitive and causing him to fall.

She later learned he was Tu Jia, the Right Guardian of the Mantra Sect, who had rebelled and was being pursued. Meanwhile, Duan Yu and his companion Xing Si were also present, planning to get the first incense. Xing Si identified the fugitive. The pursuit and an attack, which injured Xing Si, disrupted their plans, and they left the temple without offering incense.

On their journey back, Duan Yu and Xing Si encountered Ruoyun, the magistrate's daughter, and Xing Si was visibly captivated by her. Gu Qingqiao rushed past the crowds and successfully claimed the first incense. When she drew a lot, she received a blank one. Master Kongkong appeared, explaining that a blank lot is only drawn by someone not belonging to this world. She asked about her mother in her original world.

Master Kongkong assured her that her loved ones were safe, just like her current family, who were also now her family. He recognized a flower mark on her ankle, confirming her identity as the fated Star of Rebellion.

When Gu Qingqiao asked how to return home, Master Kongkong revealed that finding the "Four Treasures"—the Nine-turn melodious bell, the Black Wood Human-shaped Sword, the Meridian Gate, and the Heavenly Pearl—could bridge the two worlds and open the gate of time and space, allowing her return.

He gave her cryptic lines related to finding the treasures and warned her that revealing her identity as the Star of Rebellion would bring her great danger and could result in her randomly traveling to an unknown place if the time gate was unstable. Returning home by carriage, Gu Qingqiao's journey was interrupted at a checkpoint where soldiers were searching for the fugitive. The soldiers demanded she step out for inspection.

A person suddenly emerged, attempting to stop her from complying, claiming her noble status as the daughter of the Changqing Chamber of Commerce vice president exempted her from search. The soldiers insisted, stating merchants' daughters must cooperate. Gu Qingqiao, using surprising strength and agility, subdued the person preventing her inspection and realized it was the same fugitive, Tu Jia, who had thrown the tile at her earlier.
