Granting You a Dreamlike Life Episode 6 Recap
> Granting You a Dreamlike Life Recap
The Xu family hosted a lavish welcome banquet, attended by prominent figures. Lin Qikai chatted with Xu Xingyuan, who was holding a small kitten, remarking on her skill in curing it and expressing his belief that she and her brother would become the best doctors in Dongjiang. He also suggested she could assist a pet rescue center organized by a friend. Luo Fusheng observed their interaction, inwardly finding them a perfect match.
Hong Lan, who was attempting to flirt with Luo Fusheng, then commented to him that Lin Qikai and Xu Xingyuan seemed like a perfect match, and even playfully suggested Luo Fusheng and Xu Xingcheng were also a suitable pair. However, Luo Fusheng remained indifferent to her advances, instead persistently trying to set up Hong Lan with Xu Xingcheng. Luo Fusheng, however, called Hong Lan his sister, playfully bickering about who was older.
Xu Ruian then gave a speech, welcoming guests to his son Xu Xingcheng's return banquet, framing it as a joyous reunion. Hong Zhengbao congratulated Xu Ruian on Xu Xingcheng's return and his new position at the police station, crediting Xu Ruian's support for the prosperity of Hong's businesses, including docks, dance halls, and casinos. Lin Daoshan also expressed gratitude to Xu Ruian for his assistance in establishing new department stores and cinemas.
During the banquet, Hong Zhengbao suggested to Xu Ruian that Hong Lan and Xu Xingcheng's marriage should be scheduled soon, emphasizing the tradition of establishing a family before a career. Xu Ruian agreed, stating he had been discreetly trying to bring them together. Hong Zhengbao advised Xu Ruian to respect the young people's feelings, acknowledging the changing times.
Xu Ruian then turned to Lin Daoshan, proposing that Xu Xingyuan and Lin Qikai's marriage be put on the agenda after Xu Xingyuan's upcoming 20th birthday, aiming to solidify an alliance among the three major families in Dongjiang. Lin Daoshan consented. Meanwhile, Luo Fusheng found a sullen Xu Xingcheng, who felt the banquet was not truly for him but for the elders to discuss their alliances.
Luo Fusheng mentioned the elders were arranging Xu Xingcheng's marriage to Hong Lan, which Xu Xingcheng found intolerable, revealing he already liked someone else. Luo Fusheng dismissed this as a mere excuse. When called for a group photo, Hong Lan and Xu Xingcheng were reluctant to stand near each other, arguing briefly. As the photographer asked them to move closer, Hong Lan deliberately stepped on Xu Xingcheng's foot, causing him to wince in discomfort.
Later, Hong Lan confronted her father, Hong Zhengbao, apologizing for her behavior at the banquet but reiterating her refusal to marry Xu Xingcheng, stating they had no affection for each other and she had someone else in mind. Hong Zhengbao, however, insisted on the match, praising Xu Xingcheng's character and the suitability of the Xu family.
He then asked Luo Fusheng to subtly inquire about Hong Lan's romantic interest, also encouraging Luo Fusheng to find a partner, treating him like a cherished son. Luo Fusheng replied that such matters felt distant to him. Hong Zhengbao stressed the urgency of Hong Lan and Xu Xingcheng marrying before Xu Xingyuan's marriage to Lin Qikai. Concurrently, Xu Xingcheng argued with Xu Ruian, accusing his father of ignoring his feelings by arranging the marriage.
Xu Ruian asserted that a child's marriage was for elders to decide, and Xu Xingcheng only needed to "take down" Hong Lan, not necessarily to share common interests. Xu Xingcheng angrily retorted that women were not tools and accused his father of being a feudal patriarch, pursuing personal ambition at the expense of his children's happiness. He declared he would rather not be a son of the Xu family if it meant such a marriage.
Xu Ruian then confined Xu Xingcheng, forbidding him to leave. When Xu Xingcheng pleaded to be let out, Xu Ruian offered to release him on two conditions: first, he must dedicate his time to fostering his relationship with Hong Lan, and second, he must report to the police station for work the next day.
Xu Xingcheng refused both conditions, stating his desire to marry the woman he loved and become a doctor, adding that even if he had a beloved woman, he wouldn't tell his father. Xu Ruian then left him under house arrest. Luo Fusheng requested Tianying to sing for him, and she obliged. As she sang, he became deeply immersed, experiencing a hallucination of her performing a seductive dance.
He later told his associates at MGM that he was the first to hear Beijing Opera there, boasting about the unique experience. He stopped her performance early when Xu Xingyuan arrived, who informed him of Xu Xingcheng's house arrest and hunger strike. Luo Fusheng then brought delicious food to Xu Xingcheng, who, despite his initial protests as part of his hunger strike, eagerly ate them. Xu Xingcheng complained about his father's harshness, comparing his home to a prison.
Luo Fusheng jokingly suggested reporting his father to the police, then left after Xu Xingcheng asked for more food next time. Meanwhile, two guards at the Xu mansion gossiped about Tianying's previous attempt to bail Xu Xingcheng out of the police station. Back at the theater, Tianci confronted Tianying about an expensive bracelet she was wearing. She falsely claimed to have bought it herself, but Tianci, knowing her financial situation, realized it was a gift.
He deduced it was from Xu Xingcheng and accused Xu Xingcheng of being corrupt, suggesting his wealth came from exploiting common people. Tianying defended Xu Xingcheng, describing him as a simple and upright man, unlike other bad police officers. Tianci dismissed her defense, warning her to stay away from both Xu Xingcheng and Luo Fusheng to avoid ruining her reputation. Later, Luo Fusheng went to the theater to watch Tianying perform.
Hong Lan burst in, disrupting the performance and angrily questioned his presence, accusing him of being interested in Tianying. Luo Fusheng pulled her outside, explaining that he was there to "learn culture" for his dance hall girls and, more truthfully, that Tianying's opera helped him sleep due to his lifelong nightmares. He denied any romantic interest in an "opera singer," flatteringly comparing Hong Lan to himself, implying she was a more suitable match.
To appease her further, Luo Fusheng took Hong Lan to eat Western food. Back home, Hong Lan coyly convinced her father, Hong Zhengbao, to let her host a masquerade party at MGM. Hong Zhengbao initially hesitated but agreed when she promised to invite Xu Xingcheng, hoping it would foster their relationship. Hong Lan secretly planned to use the party to embarrass Xu Xingcheng and convince her father to cancel their engagement.
That night, Luo Fusheng woke up in a cold sweat from another nightmare about a woman leading a child being shot. Elsewhere, Tianying visited Nine-year Red in the hospital, who, as her master, told her that her talent was a gift from above and advised her to cherish it. He warned her not to be led astray by "evil influences" or to become entangled with "dignitaries."
Meanwhile, Xu Xingcheng received an interview notice for Renai Hospital, with the interview scheduled for that very day. Realizing he was under house arrest and unable to leave, he asked Xu Xingyuan to seek Luo Fusheng's help. Luo Fusheng arrived at the Xu mansion and bribed the guards, claiming Xu Ruian had sent him to persuade Xu Xingcheng but wished for it to be discreet. Once inside, Xu Xingcheng berated Luo Fusheng for being late.
Luo Fusheng, after some playful banter and a mock negotiation about "benefits," agreed to help Xu Xingcheng escape for the interview by swapping clothes. Luo Fusheng, now dressed as Xu Xingcheng, then loudly feigned continued resistance to the guards, while Xu Xingcheng, disguised in Luo Fusheng's clothes, escaped with Xu Xingyuan's help. Xu Xingyuan reminded him to feign ignorance if questioned, and then called out "sell flowers," possibly a code or a cover. Xu Xingcheng then called out for "George" as he left for his interview.
