Following Luo Fusheng's critical injury and successful surgery, Xu Ruian visited Hong Zhengbao to discuss the assassination attempt. Hong Zhengbao expressed gratitude for Xu Ruian's presence, noting their families would soon be united. He also thanked Xu Xingcheng, Xu Ruian's son, for performing Luo Fusheng's surgery and saving his life.
Xu Ruian inquired if the Hong family had made any recent enemies, to which Hong Zhengbao, after some thought, declared his strong suspicion of the Lin family, referencing an old grudge involving Lin Daoshan. Xu Ruian urged caution, stressing the need for evidence. Growing impatient with their fathers' diplomatic exchanges, Hong Lan and Xu Xingcheng voiced their frustration, insisting they should actively search for the culprit themselves at the crime scene, MGM.
However, both fathers reprimanded them, with Hong Zhengbao emphatically forbidding them from interfering and requesting Xu Ruian to instruct his police force to bar them from the secured site. Despite this, Hong Lan remained determined to find the killer, and Xu Xingcheng offered to accompany her. Meanwhile, in the hospital, Luo Cheng noisily enjoyed a meal, much to the annoyance of the recovering Luo Fusheng. Hong Zhengbao arrived, expressing his relief and reassuring Luo Fusheng that the investigation was ongoing.
He emphasized that Luo Fusheng's safety was paramount and that he relied on him for future endeavors. Despite Luo Fusheng's protests against appearing weak, Hong Zhengbao assigned several bodyguards to protect him, stating that no one could escape the Hong family's reach in Dongjiang. He also shared a chilling premonition that Dongjiang was on the verge of significant change. After Hong Zhengbao left, Luo Fusheng pondered the identity of the audacious assassin.
Unbeknownst to him, Hu Qi and his brother, the true perpetrators, were lamenting their failure to kill Luo Fusheng and discussed whether to continue their attempts, with Hu Qi advising patience. Tianying, who visited Luo Fusheng daily, brought him fried buns, only for Xu Xingcheng to intercept them, claiming Luo Fusheng could only have liquid food and suggesting he and Tianying eat them together, much to Luo Fusheng's chagrin. Later, Luo Fusheng demanded Tianying give him a massage while singing.
Tianying, initially hesitant as she only massaged her father and never sang during it, eventually complied. Xu Xingcheng, however, appeared and subtly replaced her, taking over the massage, much to Luo Fusheng's amusement and slight irritation. On another occasion, as Tianying pushed Luo Fusheng in a wheelchair outside, he feigned severe leg pain and inability to walk, even asking her to sing. She declined, advising him to buy a ticket. Luo Fusheng then started singing himself.
Xu Xingcheng then arrived, criticized Luo Fusheng's poor singing, and took over pushing the wheelchair, asserting his responsibility as a doctor and friend. He proceeded to shake the wheelchair vigorously as a "special method" for recovery, causing Luo Fusheng to jump up and walk, revealing his deception. Luo Fusheng jokingly accused Xu Xingcheng of attempted murder. Xu Xingcheng retorted that it was "the power of friendship."
Noticing Tianying was hot and sweaty, Xu Xingcheng sent her inside to wash up, leaving Luo Fusheng to walk on his own. Determined to win Tianying's affection, Luo Fusheng had a special cake made from the Violet cake shop, adorned with a small figure of her in opera attire. He presented it to her, claiming it might be poisoned and asking her to "test" it, a "privilege" he extended to her.
Tianying, surprised and delighted by the custom cake, felt hurt by his teasing. As Luo Fusheng prepared to feed her, Hong Lan burst into the room. Overwhelmed by jealousy at Luo Fusheng's obvious affection for Tianying, she lashed out, accusing Tianying of being a "villain" who brought trouble to Luo Fusheng. She then violently smashed the cake onto Tianying's dress and shattered the opera figure. A distressed Tianying quickly left the room.
Outside, she encountered Xu Xingcheng, who, seeing her disheveled state, thoughtfully wiped the cake from her. This intimate moment was unfortunately witnessed by Hong Lan, who further solidified her belief that Tianying was manipulative, and by Tianci, who deliberately led Nine-year Red to see the scene. The sight, coupled with gossip from nurses about Tianying's apparent involvement with both Luo Fusheng and Xu Xingcheng, enraged Nine-year Red, who immediately demanded to be discharged from the hospital.
Xu Xingcheng later confronted Luo Fusheng over the phone, criticizing him for allowing Hong Lan to upset Tianying and urging him to ensure her happiness. Luo Fusheng admitted his helplessness in controlling Hong Lan's fiery temper. That evening, Hong Lan stormed into the Longfu Theatre during Tianying's performance, declaring she had "booked the show" to confront Tianying, even offering double refunds to the audience.
Just as a confrontation was about to escalate, Luo Cheng rushed in and, by fabricating a story about Luo Fusheng's severe health relapse, managed to whisk Hong Lan away to the hospital. Nine-year Red, having been discharged from the hospital, witnessed the disruption and was furious. He publicly chastised Tianying for bringing chaos to the troupe and ordered her home.
Outside, Xu Xingcheng waited for Tianying, but Nine-year Red curtly dismissed him, stating they used rickshaws, not cars, and had no further business. Tianci then pulled Tianying into a waiting rickshaw, leaving a dejected Xu Xingcheng behind. Back home, Nine-year Red exploded in anger, accusing Tianying of being too involved with both Luo Fusheng and Xu Xingcheng, neglecting her training, and failing to maintain her dignity as a performer.
Tianying, however, adamantly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that Xu Xingcheng was merely a friend, and her visits to Luo Fusheng were purely out of gratitude for saving her. She claimed her conscience was clear and that she made up for any lost practice time at night. Refusing to back down or admit fault, she stood her ground against Nine-year Red's accusations of "ambiguous" relationships and violating the rule against having a personal life before achieving stardom.
As punishment, Nine-year Red ordered her to kneel in the rehearsal hall and not rise until she understood her mistakes. Tianci attempted to intercede on her behalf but was angrily silenced. Later that night, as heavy rain began to fall, Tianying remained kneeling outside. Xu Xingcheng, worried about her, climbed to her window but received no response. He hesitated to enter, fearing his presence would only worsen Nine-year Red's anger towards Tianying.
Tianci, meanwhile, brought an umbrella to shield Tianying from the rain, urging her to yield and apologize, but she stubbornly refused. She endured the entire night kneeling in the rain. The next morning, the entire troupe gathered, kneeling in unison to plead with Nine-year Red for Tianying's forgiveness, highlighting her endurance throughout the night. However, Tianying remained resolute, reiterating that she had done nothing wrong. Enraged by her continued defiance, Nine-year Red raised his hand to strike her, but before he could, Tianying, weakened and exhausted, collapsed and fainted.
