Li Quzhuo and Dongfang Qinlan captured the Swallow and placed three talismans on him, thereby locating his base in Liyuan. The leader of these Swallows was a honey badger demon, known as Flathead Bro, nicknamed the Indestructible. Ana Yan ordered her men to find new demons. If they couldn’t locate a new batch, her subordinates would have to go sacrifice themselves.

Zhang Zheng refused to help Ana Yan assassinate Wangquan Hongye again, but Ana Yan still threatened him using the indenture and the Zhang family as leverage. With no other choice, Zhang Zheng reluctantly compromised and had a meal with Ana Yan. To his shock, she had poisoned the food, intending to permanently control him. Dongfang Huaizhu and Wangquan Hongye went to Liyuan and easily subdued the honey badger demon.

Huaizhu pointed out that the honey badger demon was already at the end of his strength. If he told them where the assassin was, they would pretend today never happened and wouldn’t harm a single Swallow. The honey badger demon complied, and the two went off to find the assassin. When they saw Zhang Zheng, both were surprised. Before they could act, Qingmu Yuan rushed in to stop them.

Wangquan was furious that Qingmu Yuan had kept this from him and was even angrier that she thought he was someone who acted without discerning right from wrong. After hearing what Qingmu Yuan had to say about Zhang Zheng, Wangquan calmed down and immediately sent word back to the Yiqi Alliance, asking Wangquan Zui and Yang Yitan to root out Ana Yan’s people within the Alliance and retrieve Zhang Zheng’s indenture.

Three days later, Wangquan brought a bowl of wontons to Zhang Zheng. Zhang Zheng, still harboring resentment toward Wangquan, appeared prickly, but Wangquan didn’t mind. He pulled out the indenture and burned it in front of him to show that he would never stoop to Ana Yan’s tactics of using it to manipulate him. Wangquan returned the black sword to Zhang Zheng and said that the Wangquan and Zhang families were never enemies.

He hoped Zhang Zheng could understand his intentions. Zhang Zheng went to Ruyi Tower and looked at Qingmu Yuan from afar. Qingmu Yuan ran after him to give him a sword tassel she had prepared, but was shocked to see blue scales under Zhang Zheng’s eyes—signs of Gu Huo Niao demon poison. With the poison already in his bloodstream, Qingmu Yuan didn’t have time to take him back to Ruyi Tower.

She used a blood-exchange cauldron from the leech demon clan to swap her blood for his, drawing the poison into herself before it could reach his heart, hoping to suppress it. When Zhang Zheng awoke, only a campfire remained by his side. As before, he remembered nothing and had no idea Qingmu Yuan had saved him by exchanging her blood. The Golden Lotus, an ancient artifact, though burned, still had the power to regenerate.

Through the Golden Lotus, Jiu Huo passed a message to Jin Renfeng, saying Ana Yan had failed and instructing him to head to the Yao-controlling Nation. Wangquan Hongye prepared the candied hawthorn Dongfang Qinlan liked. In Qinlan’s eyes, the Wangquan Sword and Dongfang spiritual blood were a burden to Huaizhu. The reason she liked the Masked Group leader was because Huaizhu did—more than that, it was about longing for a life of freedom.

Qinlan thought Wangquan would back off after hearing her words, but he insisted on pressing forward regardless. Qinlan didn’t know how to repay Huaizhu’s kindness and was feeling down, but a few words from Li Quzhuo made her feel enlightened. During the Yao-controlling Nation’s annual Wulan Festival, Wangquan took Huaizhu out for a stroll. Afraid Wangquan might be unreliable, Qinlan dragged Li Quzhuo to secretly follow them. Wangquan was sincere.

He knew Huaizhu yearned for a peaceful and quiet life, and he promised to give her exactly that—that calmness would become the main theme of their life together. As the crowd moved toward Wulan Lake, Wangquan also took Huaizhu there to make a wish.
