Ren Chu found the idea of falling in love foolish, yet he inexplicably harbored feelings for Lu Wanwan, even dreaming of kissing her, which left him flustered. Fan Yi, a fellow student, designed a real-life combat competition and made participation mandatory for all club presidents. When Ren Chu learned Lu Wanwan's Baking Club would be participating, he sensed trouble. Meanwhile, Lu Wanwan, facing a shortage of members, invited Wang Yuyang to join her for the competition.
Ren Chu, relying on his academic knowledge, believed that love made people foolish—a state he couldn't tolerate. He resolved to stop his burgeoning feelings for Lu Wanwan. His friend, Meng Xibai, suggested that a "physical blockade," intentionally avoiding her and minimizing their interactions, could help prevent the unwanted feelings. The competition commenced, with a significant turnout of male students after Fan Yi invited Guan Ai, the campus queen, to participate.
During the random team pairing, Lu Wanwan was surprisingly assigned to Ren Chu's team. Guan Ai approached Lu Wanwan, asking if she was Ren Chu's girlfriend. Lu Wanwan clarified they were not, and Guan Ai, a member of the Student Union, offered to help her switch partners. Lu Wanwan readily agreed, hoping to team up with Wang Yuyang instead. Unbeknownst to Lu Wanwan, Ren Chu had manipulated the random pairing software.
Tasked by Fan Yi to design the program, he had tampered with it to ensure he and Lu Wanwan would be on the same team. Meng Xibai advised Ren Chu to interact with Lu Wanwan normally and observe his own feelings. However, despite Ren Chu sending her a detailed competition strategy guide, Lu Wanwan remained adamant about finding a different partner, expressing her strong desire not to be on his team.
Through her connections, Guan Ai successfully arranged for Lu Wanwan to team up with Wang Yuyang. When Ren Chu arrived, he learned of the last-minute swap, leaving him visibly disappointed. Lu Wanwan was eager to impress Wang Yuyang, but he saw her only as a close friend and was focused solely on winning. During a break, Ren Chu observed them interacting, and when Wang Yuyang drank from Lu Wanwan's bottle, his jealousy flared.
He pointedly intervened, telling Wang Yuyang to buy his own drink and sitting directly between them. Elsewhere, Wang Xinyu, searching for Meng Xibai, injured herself on a broken wooden plank path. Guan Ai, interested in Ren Chu, repeatedly tried to engage him in conversation, but he bluntly rejected her advances. Lu Wanwan also sustained an injury at the same broken path. Her friend, Gu Qiao, suggested Wang Yuyang take her to the infirmary, but he prioritized winning the competition.
Ren Chu, who overheard, initially dismissed her injury as an irrelevant distraction. However, his emotions ultimately overrode his logic. He appeared, explained that he was already eliminated, and carried Lu Wanwan to the infirmary. At the infirmary, Wang Xinyu, who had fainted at the sight of her own blood, awoke to find Meng Xibai, realizing he was serving as medical staff. Wishing to end her persistent pursuit, Meng Xibai bluntly told her that he did not like her.
Feeling wronged after all her efforts—including climbing walls to see him and befriending his teachers for information—Wang Xinyu began to cry. As Meng Xibai attempted to comfort her, she unexpectedly kissed him to test his true feelings, making it difficult for him to deny his budding attraction to her. Meanwhile, Ren Chu gently tended to Lu Wanwan's leg wound.
She remarked that he was a strange and mysterious person who, despite his cold demeanor, often appeared to comfort her when she was down. As their eyes met, Ren Chu recalled Meng Xibai's second piece of advice: to stop resisting and embrace the "foolish opportunity" to pursue something seemingly unattainable. Following his heart, Ren Chu leaned in and kissed her.
