Wen Suxi, a renowned producer known for her high-grossing films, was expected at the promotion meeting for her new film, "One Hundred Million Solitary Journey," an event that had garnered significant attention since its inception. Her assistant, You You, called to rush her, but Suxi was still in her office, eating chocolate, claiming she was "on my way."
Meanwhile, the news reported on the upcoming film, also mentioning that young actress Duola would attend the event, dispelling rumors of a feud with Suxi, who had once given Duola a boost in her career. Lehe Pictures, the film's producer, was set to promote "One Hundred Million Solitary Journey" and another film, "Thunderbolt Messenger," produced by Cai Shumeng, at the same event.
Tang Mao, the CEO of Lehe Pictures, casually discussed the joint promotion with Cai Shumeng, who publicly denied any "internal competition" between their films, yet privately complained to her assistant about Suxi's tardiness and preferential treatment. As Wen Suxi finally drove to the event, a man named Chi Yu suddenly fell from the sky, landing in front of her car.
Chi Yu, who came from 3,000 years ago, explained he was on Earth to find a woman named Ji Wan and atone for a past mistake. Suxi thought she had hit him and quickly got out to check, finding no one. However, once she was back in her car, she found Chi Yu sitting beside her. Speaking in an archaic manner about punishments for reckless driving, he startled her. Suxi, in fear, sprayed him with pepper spray.
Chi Yu fainted after accidentally ingesting it, remarking that the spray was "expired" and "unreliable." Worried about the consequences of leaving him, Suxi reluctantly put the unconscious man into her car's trunk and continued to the already late promotion meeting. Upon her arrival, a swarm of media surrounded her. Cai Shumeng, seizing the opportunity, approached to also promote "Thunderbolt Messenger," amidst Suxi's attempt to focus attention on "One Hundred Million Solitary Journey."
Duola was present at the event, and when asked, she diplomatically praised both films. Later, in a private conversation with Suxi, she acknowledged Suxi's initial help in her career but hinted at feelings of being abandoned, suggesting her subsequent success was achieved independently. Back in Suxi's car, the man in the trunk stirred, causing You You to accidentally spray him again. They brought him to Suxi's home.
Once awake, Chi Yu cleared up the misunderstanding with Suxi, explaining he was a Heavenly Star Master, also known as a "destiny writer," from the Big Dipper of the Ursa Major constellation, and his purpose was to rectify a mistake he made 3,000 years prior, concerning Ji Wan. He quickly realized his "star key," a crucial item, was missing and left to find it, unaware it had fallen in Suxi's car.
Chi Yu ventured to a rooftop, using his powers to observe the modern world and locate an ancient temple he knew. Two construction workers, mistaking his elevated position for an attempt to jump, intervened. After Chi Yu explained he was looking for a temple, one of the workers offered to take him there by bus.
Chi Yu, unfamiliar with modern public transport, caused a small commotion when he couldn't swipe a bus card or put money into the box, but he eventually made it to the temple. Later, while working late at her company, Suxi ran into Tang Mao. He expressed concern for her well-being, confirming he knew she would be there. He ordered food for them, reminding her to eat before indulging in chocolate.
During their meal, he inquired about her tardiness earlier, but she kept her explanation vague. He hinted at wanting to deepen their relationship, though she continued to address him formally. He then received a call, requiring him to leave for an urgent client meeting, but he insisted Suxi eat a full meal before continuing her work. As Suxi was preparing to leave the office later, she encountered Lin Haoshu, her childhood friend and a cartoonist, downstairs.
He was waiting for a ride home, a regular occurrence given their differing incomes. Suxi, wanting to help him, proposed buying the rights to his comic, "Next Stop: Unknown," for a film adaptation, offering him the role of chief screenwriter. Lin Haoshu, however, was filled with self-doubt, worried he would be a burden and ruin her career, believing more in her insight than his own capabilities. He jokingly stated his comics were more loyal than a girlfriend.
At the temple, Chi Yu found his old friends, Shancai and Fangye, engaged in a game. He informed them of his true purpose: to modify the life energy of a human whose severe energy loss he had inadvertently caused 3,000 years ago. Realizing Chi Yu had absconded from his confinement, Shancai and Fangye were hesitant to help, fearing repercussions from headquarters.
Chi Yu, however, overheard their whispered concerns, revealing his ability to "pass the sound without letting others know," and subtly threatened to stay with them if they refused. Cornered, they reluctantly agreed to help, providing him with modern clothes, money (both cash and digital), some identity documents, a watch to tell modern time, and eventually a mobile phone, explaining its use for communication.
When Chi Yu inquired about checking Ji Wan's star map, they told him that all star maps were now under the curator's care and warned him that approaching the curator as an escapee would be dangerous. Chi Yu, undeterred, stated he had his "own way." Meanwhile, Cai Shumeng was in her car, smiling at a photo of herself and Tang Mao.
Her assistant showed her some illicit photos that were taken of Suxi and Chi Yu, cleverly angled to suggest they were kissing. Cai Shumeng remarked that it was unfortunate for Tang Mao to be pursuing a woman like Suxi and thought everyone should know Suxi's true colors. The assistant, believing it to be a golden opportunity, sent the photos to their work group chat.
Cai Shumeng immediately panicked, ordering him to recall the message, but it was too late; the group chat had already "blown up" with the scandalous images. Chi Yu, guided by the information he received, arrived at the curator's location and was immediately apprehended. The curator, displeased by Chi Yu's unauthorized escape, reminded him of his past felony 3,000 years ago and the severe penalties they would both face if he stayed.
He also revealed that Chi Yu's Heavenly Star Pen could now only be used once a day, and his other abilities would progressively weaken until completely exhausted, leaving him unable to return to the Big Dipper.
Chi Yu then used a secret from the curator's past as leverage: the fact that the curator had an illegitimate son named Di Ba, and had manipulated the succession 3,000 years ago to enthrone him as the Yin King, while the rightful successor should have been the eldest son. Faced with this threat, the curator reluctantly agreed to help.
After locating Ji Wan's current whereabouts, the curator warned Chi Yu that her life energy had a severe deficiency, causing an energy vortex that would lead to her death before the age of 30. To truly "make up for the mistake," Chi Yu had to ensure she lived past 30. He further cautioned that forcibly mending her long-standing energy deficiency could have severe consequences, similar to the events of 3,000 years ago.
He recounted how he was sent to Earth to mend chaotic life energies after the Sun and Moon Jade was lost. He also recalled how, despite strict orders from the Big Dipper to not interfere with energies unrelated to the Jade, he chose to save Ji Wan's life during a war, an act that led to his imprisonment and caused Ji Wan to lose the "energy of love" across her reincarnations.
This was the mistake Chi Yu was now desperately trying to fix, despite his weakened state. Chi Yu then asked for her exact current location. Following the curator's directions, Chi Yu arrived at Lovers' Lake. There, he spotted Wen Suxi and Lin Haoshu cycling tandem. As they were about to crash into the lake, Chi Yu swiftly intervened, pushing Lin Haoshu to safety. In that moment, he realized that Lin Haoshu was the reincarnation of Ji Wan. Suxi, drenched and angry, emerged from the water and furiously accused Chi Yu of stalking her.
