Having been discovered by Chen Yiming, Lu Li meets him by a bridge at night to explain herself. Chen Yiming, however, is completely understanding. He admits he accidentally discovered her secret at the hot spring but chose not to expose her, believing she had her reasons. He notes that her gender doesn't change his professional admiration for her.
He hopes she can be the one to finally challenge Jiang Yicheng's rigid stance against female programmers, a prejudice rooted in his private past. Chen Yiming also correctly guesses that he is not the idol Lu Li joined the company for. They agree to keep her identity a secret, with Chen Yiming promising to take responsibility as her direct superior if anything goes wrong.
Touched by his kindness, Lu Li offers to help him with daily tasks, but he simply asks her to be his friend. Meanwhile, Jiang Yicheng is increasingly tormented by his conflicting feelings for the "male" Lu Li and the mysterious woman he keeps encountering. He seeks professional help from a doctor, describing symptoms of distraction, frustration, and constantly thinking about "him." The doctor, after ruling out physical causes, diagnoses him with having a crush.
Jiang Yicheng vehemently rejects this, storming out of the clinic and telling the doctor to "study harder." The next workday, Jiang Yicheng relentlessly picks on Lu Li. When Chen Yiming offers Lu Li some new coffee beans, Jiang Yicheng barges in, demanding a cup as well. Seeing their growing closeness, he questions their intimacy, to which Lu Li cryptically replies that they share a secret.
Irritated by Lu Li praising Chen Yiming's coffee while his own tastes bitter, Jiang Yicheng orders her back to work, but Chen Yiming insists she stay, creating more tension. Later, in his office, Jiang Yicheng stares at the photo of Lu Li forming the letters "Y C" and has a horrifying realization that it could stand for his own name, "Yicheng." Convinced he's going insane, he makes a frantic, bizarre call to his father about losing his mind.
Lu Li's mother, Huang Caixia, arrives at the company to drop off her forgotten employee ID. To avoid a scene, Lu Li rushes down to intercept her. While she's away, Jiang Yicheng spots a cartoon charm on her desk, recognizing it as the one dropped by the mysterious woman at the mall, deepening his suspicion. He calls his own mother to ask if Huang Caixia has a son and then presses the HR department for Lu Li's documents.
Meanwhile, Huang Caixia asks the receptionist to look up her daughter, only to be shown an employee file for a "male" Lu Li. Furious, she confronts Lu Li at home. With her father’s subtle help, Lu Li negotiates a one-week reprieve, promising to resign responsibly after finishing her current tasks. Jiang Yicheng confirms with a professor that Lu Li is indeed a woman, which only fuels his desire to provoke her.
Seeing her looking distressed, Chen Yiming offers his support, and Lu Li confides that her parents have discovered her secret and want her to quit. Fueled by jealousy over her easy camaraderie with Chen Yiming, Jiang Yicheng assigns Lu Li the grueling task of moving a warehouse full of materials by herself. Chen Yiming steps in to help, and they complete the work together.
Later, Chen Yiming visits Lu Li's home and, as her director, praises her talent to her parents, attempting to persuade them to let her stay. However, his visit takes an unexpected turn when her parents, learning he is a successful, single professional, begin trying to set him up with Lu Li, forcing a mortified Lu Li to usher him out.
Afterwards, she presents her mother with a high-end speaker for square dancing, a "sugar-coated bullet" that, with her father's encouragement, begins to soften her mother's resolve. During dinner, Jiang Yicheng needles Chen Yiming about becoming "nosy" and questions if he has noticed anything unusual about Lu Li. Chen Yiming acknowledges Lu Li's unique way of thinking but reveals that they first met during the job interview.
This revelation confuses Jiang Yicheng, as it contradicts his assumption that Chen Yiming was the "idol" Lu Li had joined the company for, leaving him to wonder who she was really talking about.
