Are You Safe Episode 16 Recap
> Are You Safe Recap
Upon returning home, Chen Mo found his mother in a serious mood. She dismissed Mu Tong, asking her to go to her room, before confronting Chen Mo with documents related to his ongoing investigation into the scammers from years ago. His mother expressed her frustration, reminding him that his past desire for revenge led to his arrest and her broken legs. She urged him to let go, emphasizing that she only wished for their family to live a peaceful life.
Chen Mo admitted he couldn't let go, explaining that his years alone in a foreign country had been tormenting, making him constantly revisit the past. He felt compelled to uncover the truth and clear his own name, believing he owed it to his mother and himself.
However, his mother reiterated that the most important thing was his well-being, stating she wouldn't have survived if she harbored such a mindset, and she cherished the simple act of hearing him say "Mom, I'm home" every day. Later, Mu Tong comforted Chen Mo, telling him she overheard his mother's words. She suggested that for his mother, the truth might not be as important as Chen Mo leading a happy and joyful life.
Mu Tong believed his mother didn't want him trapped in the past, fearing she would blame herself for his current state. She recalled her own feelings of rootlessness upon returning to the city, making her envious of Chen Mo having a home and a mother who waited for him daily. Moved by her words, Chen Mo thanked Mu Tong. He then shared his future plans, envisioning a stable life where they could open a housekeeping agency together.
Mu Tong was touched to be included in his aspirations. With this new resolve, Chen Mo acknowledged the end of his investigation, as the individual involved in the courier station incident had been reported. Mu Tong expressed her relief that Chen Mo had finally decided to let go of the past. Chen Mo then gently took Mu Tong's hand, signifying their new beginning.
They then began preparations for their housekeeping company, named Momo Housekeeping, finding joy in their new venture despite the hard work. As Chen Mo and Mu Tong returned home after a day of work, they found Qin Huai waiting for them downstairs. Mu Tong discreetly went inside, leaving the two men to talk. Chen Mo was cold, immediately refusing to help Qin Huai without even knowing the request.
Qin Huai ignored his curtness, showing him codes – the core code Chen Mo had written for his "Guardian" system four years ago. Qin Huai revealed he had modified it into the "Shepherd" system and they were one step closer to their dream of a perfect system with both offensive and defensive capabilities. He appealed to Chen Mo for help to refine it, stating it would be flawed without him. Chen Mo, however, had changed.
He congratulated Qin Huai but firmly stated he had decided to quit cybersecurity. He now believed that a peaceful life with loved ones was paramount. He explained that he and Mu Tong were running a small company, which, though modest, brought fulfillment. He emphasized that Mu Tong had saved his life and was a kind person, and he wished to provide her with a stable future. Qin Huai, though disappointed, accepted Chen Mo's decision and left.
Meanwhile, at Kai Gua Le Cybersecurity Company, Zhou You returned with takeout to find Qin Huai eating hotpot. Excited, Zhou You joined him. Qin Huai explained it was an early celebration for the successful development of the "Shepherd" system, adding that Chen Mo would not be involved. Zhou You expressed surprise at Chen Mo's absence but quickly committed to the project.
When Zhou You offered to go home for his sleeping bag, Qin Huai revealed he had already anticipated it, showing him a prepared sleeping bag and other essentials for an all-nighter. They immediately got to work, fortifying the system. They initiated a pressure test with 50% data, which was successful. However, when Qin Huai uploaded his modified code and they ran a full load pressure test with 100% data, the system failed, revealing numerous unresolved vulnerabilities.
They continued to work tirelessly, spending their days and nights at the office. Later, Mu Tong was cleaning a client's apartment, a Ms. Chen, when she encountered a suspicious masked man in the elevator area. Initially, she dismissed him, but after she disposed of the trash, she noticed him rummaging through the bags she had just discarded. Alarmed, Mu Tong immediately informed Chen Mo via phone.
From the contents of the garbage bag—a takeout receipt showing evening orders, a beer can, and a clothing brand—Chen Mo quickly deduced that the client was a young, single white-collar woman who lived alone and owned a gray cat. He explained that this "dumpster diving" was a hacking technique used to gather personal information. Concerned, they returned to Ms. Chen's apartment under the guise of providing additional service.
Inside, Chen Mo noticed several smart, internet-connected devices, including a rotating far-infrared camera for her cat and a device labeled "Love." While Ms. Chen was showing off her smart cat toys, Chen Mo subtly used his phone to play music at a high volume, placing it near a camera.
He then warned her about the security risks of inadequately configured smart devices, explaining that a device named "Love" was an intruder on her network, allowing someone to see and hear everything. He claimed to have temporarily "deafened and blinded" the intruder. Mu Tong quickly added that she had seen a man going through Ms. Chen's garbage.
Ms. Chen, however, misunderstood their intentions, accusing them of trying to scam her and angrily ordering them to leave, threatening to call the police. Chen Mo and Mu Tong, having delivered their warning, left. Just as they departed, the same mysterious masked man emerged from the adjacent rental unit. A public service announcement then followed, highlighting the dangers of oversharing private information on social media.
It warned that seemingly innocuous posts about travel or daily routines could inadvertently inform wrongdoers when a person is absent, making them vulnerable to scams or theft. The message advised people to think twice before sharing personal details online.
