During Professor Zhou's second class, she clarified her previous behavior towards Xiaoman, stating she hadn't intentionally targeted her, emphasizing that medicine is a complex and precise field where every detail affects health and life. Immediately after, she challenged Xiaoman by asking her to draw an anatomical diagram on the board. Zuo An prepared to intervene on Xiaoman's behalf, but Xiaoman was ready, having practiced the diagram for two nights. She confidently presented a satisfactory answer.

Despite this, Professor Zhou remained unimpressed, hinting that mere basic skills wouldn't guarantee a successful medical career. Later, Zuo An directly confronted his mother, urging her to stop deliberately undermining Xiaoman. He explained that Xiaoman was the one who helped him emerge from his dark period and brought him the happiness he yearned for. Zuo An's mother, seeing him repeatedly defy her, blamed Xiaoman for his changed behavior. Zuo An retorted that she never truly understood him.

During their heated discussion, the painful truth about Anxin's death was finally revealed. Years ago, a young Zuo An and Sun Anxin were playing, struggling over a doll. When young Zuo An let go, Sun Anxin, due to momentum, fell backward into a lake. Young Zuo An immediately jumped in to save her. Their mother, upon learning of the incident, rushed to the scene but instinctively only saved her own son, failing to rescue Anxin.

This tragic event left Zuo An's mother with deep guilt towards Anxin's family, causing her to feel perpetually indebted to them and always accede to their requests. As Zuo An finished speaking, both he and his mother were overwhelmed with grief recalling the painful memory. Afterward, Zuo An, still holding a grudge, refused to speak to his mother. Worried sick about his whereabouts, Zuo An's mother called Xiaoman, who searched and eventually found him at his apartment.

Xiaoman spoke with Zuo An, comforting him, and their conversation soon turned playful, gradually lifting his spirits. To help mend the strained relationship between Zuo An and his mother, Xiaoman sought out Professor Zhou. She shared her deepest wish: for Zuo An to find genuine happiness. Zuo An's mother was visibly moved by Xiaoman's sincerity.

Zuo An's father, who had discreetly overheard their conversation, was also impressed with Xiaoman and subsequently encouraged his wife to drop her opposition to Zuo An and Xiaoman's relationship. Later, Zuo An's mother spoke with Zuo An, confirming she would no longer forbid his relationship with Xiaoman. However, she still expressed dissatisfaction with Xiaoman. She then proposed a condition: Zuo An must agree to care for the injured Anning. Reluctantly, Zuo An accepted.

Anning, despondent over losing Zuo An, had been neglecting her rehabilitation. Zuo An's arrival and warm words of comfort, along with his personal guidance during her therapy, finally helped Anning calm down and cooperate. Anning requested Zuo An's constant companionship throughout her recovery and asked him to pick her up and drop her off for classes daily, to which Zuo An agreed.

Meanwhile, a classmate of Zuo An's was excitedly walking across campus with a single rose, intending to give it to Lina, Xiaoman's roommate, who was waiting on a campus bench. Lina was displeased by the single rose, complaining that her previous admirers were more generous. As Lina spoke, she suddenly spotted Anning in a wheelchair, with Zuo An pushing her attentively from behind. Shocked, Lina immediately rushed to her dormitory, attempting to subtly hint at the situation to Xiaoman.

Lina repeatedly tried to suggest that Xiaoman should go on more dates with Zuo An to reduce his time with Anning, but Xiaoman completely failed to grasp the hints. Nevertheless, Zuo An later informed Xiaoman about his commitment to accompany Anning until her full recovery. Xiaoman grew visibly jealous, and Zuo An followed her, trying to explain his actions.

He admitted that he understood his mother's true intentions: despite outwardly approving their relationship, she secretly hoped he would spend more time with Anning. Xiaoman was even more puzzled, questioning why Zuo An would agree knowing his mother's ulterior motive. Zuo An explained that their love was strong enough to withstand any challenge, yet Xiaoman remained somewhat uncertain. During their time together, Anning deliberately found various excuses to monopolize Zuo An's time, hoping to keep him away from Xiaoman.

However, Zuo An's heart remained with Xiaoman; while fulfilling his obligations to Anning, he never neglected Xiaoman's feelings. When Anning realized Zuo An's thoughts were still entirely consumed by Xiaoman, her jealousy intensified, leading her to harbor malicious intent, even contemplating harming Zuo An to secure him for herself. She began devising a scheme to break them apart.

Anning would often try to extend their time together, suggesting Zuo An stay longer at her house or even act as a "brother" as a "substitute for Sun Anxin." Zuo An, however, consistently maintained his boundaries, firmly telling her he would never leave Xiaoman. Separately, Lina's relationship with Shen Chenyang deteriorated. Lina confronted Shen Chenyang, accusing him of using her to provoke Xiaoman, which he openly admitted.

Angered, Lina broke up with him, proudly declaring she was the one who dumped him. Subsequently, Lina read Xiaoman's diary, discovering it was filled with Zuo An's name, with only fleeting mentions of Shen Chenyang. Armed with this, Lina confronted Xiaoman, accusing her of playing with Shen Chenyang's emotions and implying Xiaoman was responsible for their breakup.

Xiaoman's friends quickly intervened, defending her and dismissing Lina's accusations as a desperate attempt to save face, stating that Shen Chenyang's true feelings for Xiaoman were well-known. Xiaoman's friends grew concerned about Zuo An's frequent absences due to Anning, referring to Anning's residence as the "witch’s home." They urged Xiaoman to call Zuo An and demand he join them for dinner, but Xiaoman, trusting Zuo An, reassured them that he had kept her informed.

Her friends, however, advised caution, prompting one of them to call Zuo An directly. Zuo An confirmed he was taking Anning home and would meet Xiaoman later. Anning, overhearing, subtly inquired if it was Xiaoman on the phone. Anning then made further attempts to prolong Zuo An's stay, citing missed lessons or inviting him to dinner. Zuo An politely declined, reiterating his commitment to teach her back at school and his need to leave. He firmly reiterated his lifelong devotion to Xiaoman, leaving Anning in her apartment.
