Lin Sen, with the encouragement of Zhu Xuan, Liu Xinran, and Zhang Daniao who were hiding nearby, prepared to propose to Ye Zi. He confessed his feelings, telling her he had practiced his words many times and asked her to be his partner. Ye Zi, however, had a request.
She stated that if he could guess the wish she had written on a sticky note and placed on the Wishing Wall during their college Cultural Festival, she would marry him and accept the ring then. Unable to guess, Lin Sen quietly withdrew the ring, understanding her unspoken rejection. Ye Zi then told her hidden friends to come out. Liu Xinran and Zhang Daniao quickly made excuses about having other things to do and left.
Zhu Xuan tried to feign ignorance, admiring the flowers and pretending she coincidentally ran into them, but Ye Zi took her away, saving Lin Sen from further embarrassment. When she asked about his family, Xiang Zeyi revealed that his mother had moved abroad when he was a child, and his father was always busy with work. He had refused their offer to send him abroad, choosing independence instead, and now admitted he missed them. To lift the mood, Xiang Zeyi surprised Ye Zi with a birthday cake, promising to celebrate with her every year and declaring he would guard his "little princess."
He then jokingly asked what she would do if he disappeared, and when she asked him back, he teased her by saying he would try to forget her through "smoking, drinking and dating lots of girls." Ten years later, Ye Zi discovered a USB drive in her bag. She plugged it into her computer and watched a video of Xiang Zeyi's public confession to her. Later, Ye Zi picked up her phone and dialed Xiang Zeyi's number but hung up without speaking, though Xiang Zeyi seemed to sense it might have been her call. Soon after, Xiang Zeyi received a call from Zhang Daniao, who informed him that Ye Zi's father had a sudden heart attack and was hospitalized. When Xiang Zeyi tried to ask for more details, Zhang Daniao simply told him to ask Ye Zi directly.
